There is so much hatred and anger in our world right now, with people viewing anyone who disagrees with them as the enemy to be attacked and silenced. Fear is at the root of so much of this: fear of losing control; fear of the unknown or unfamiliar; fear of letting go of our own best interests, to put other people first.

As 1 John 4:18 reminds us, perfect love, God's love...drives out fear. And this love is so boldy on display for the world to see at Christmastime. This week, we're concluding our Advent sermon series "Behold: A Child is Born", as Pastor Kent brings a sermon titled "The Servant Love of Jesus."

Christmas is a season of anticipation, as we look forward to spending time with family and friends, giving and receiving gifts, or having some down time to rest and recharge before we launch into a new year. Many of those things may also bring us joy, but not often without a bit of stress as well, as we shop, prep, and complete other tasks. True joy is only found in the promise and arrival of Jesus, and the kind of deep and abiding joy that he brings to and for all people.
