[0:00] We're going to go to the Word of God now and I'm talking about the subject of doctrine. now for some I know someone this morning was saying they're looking for a church with some! good doctrine well amen well hopefully you're in the right you're in the right place today because! in some quarters doctrine is like a dirty word isn't it but I put to you today that doctrine does matter doctrine matters it's important that our doctrine is biblical doctrine and now doctrine the word doctrine it means teaching and so doctrine matters I put to you it's important that we have doctrine that is set by the Word of God we must have that strong foundation for our lives mustn't we even for our fellowship for our worship that it's biblical it's doctrinally right and so we need to know what we believe and why we believe it sound doctrine is something the Bible speaks about it's about faithful Bible teaching and we must have that we must be grounded on that I know there's some in our number there's a number in our number that have had some time for example in different belief systems that are false like people that have been in the Jehovah's Witness movement for example there's some of those amongst us today and they've had to have a total mind shift to come out of that as I had to come out of some movements that I was in that now I see are not biblical not correct so we must have that willingness to learn and unlearn and relearn and we want to be grounded in the truth that's the point I want to make so having sound doctrine helps us to be standing firm in our faith that's what we need today we need solid biblical foundations to build on and it's important that we hold fast to the true word of God the true faith to be true to God's word and so God's word warns us many times about false teachings and sometimes it can be hard well that's someone I kind of like listening to or tuning into oh well actually there's some problems there we should be willing to accept yeah actually I've got to be discerning and judge things judge righteous judgment so we warned against being tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine it's like this picture here I like to think of it as you could picture it as like a ship that's tossed on the high seas and there's these winds blowing it here and there and it's not got a clear direction and the bible says this it says for us that henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine carried about with every wind of doctrine by the slight of men and cunning craftiness whereby they lie in wait to deceive so it's by the slight of man it's kind of a trickery craftiness it's a deceiving and the bible talks about every wind of doctrine like this ship on this storm-tossed sea thrown around by the wind not stable getting rocked by the wind and the currents and these forces and if we've not got sound doctrine if we've not got the foundation that strength that stability of sound doctrine we'll be like this wind tossed vessel and we want our doctrine to be strong don't we we want to know what we believe and why we believe it so we need to feed the the mind with truth we need that and because there's so much rubbish out there honestly there is and and there's so many voices out there there's so many internet preachers so many such things you've got to be careful of these days so we must be aware beware beware of heresies and warn about them now some have objected to some social media posts i've put out there sounding some warnings about false teachers you know who are you to judge you know this or that but there is a need to to be discerning we've got to say yeah actually that doesn't quite fit that's not right some think i've been too hard with that but the bible is very clear it's very strong the strong words in the bible

[4:00] and i put to you that satan puts evil in pretty packages he's very good at packaging it and uh making it look very palatable and could look quite even biblical but when you actually look at it doesn't actually stack up and the bible warns us about such things now here's a bit of a funny picture and uh i know jilly was saying to me and she's giving me some good feedback that uh that i need to be a bit more serious about when i deliver a sermon because sometimes i tend to laugh at some things i shouldn't be laughing at but we can laugh at this little man but the rest of the sermon is quite serious so you know there's that sense that when that there's there's a time going to come it says paul tells timothy when they will not endure sound doctrine and that that is a problem that is serious really isn't it they've got these big ears that are tuning in to such that it's not sound doctrine but after their own lust they shall heap to themselves teachers having itching ears so the bible tells us of such a time to come that some people are going to listen to all kinds of teachers and teachings that are going to cause a whole lot of confusion and so i i urge you today we must expose false doctrine it's important to say actually this is not true doctrine this is something we should be against and warned against and so we must follow what is true the bible warns us it's over and over again it warns us about false doctrine and heresies and paul said this and it sounds very harsh when you look at it it's quite harsh isn't it it's quite serious he says this 2 corinthians 5 11 knowing therefore the terror of the lord we persuade men it's a terrifying thing it's a it's a frightful thing it's a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living god we need to take doctrine very seriously why does a preacher warn because heresies can hurt the faith of people they can damage people paul names some people and he says that their word is like a spreading cancer like gangrene not something you want to play around with of course physically too and it's a very serious matter isn't it and the bible compares false teachers to be like those the words of these false teachers he says that they're spreading like a canker or cancer it's like gangrene and so it's something we need to be very much warned against so he names these people here there's a place to name false teachers heresies can be contagious they really can and they can be like a virus there's a lot of talk about viruses isn't there well this is this is the worst kind of virus is false teaching really isn't it it's the worst kind of virus and it it influences it spreads and it infects heresies are compared to that that cause confusion and false beliefs and paul uses strong words as does peter for example peter says this he calls such teachings in 2 peter 2 verse 1 damnable heresies there's damnation that's a strong word isn't it these are hellish heresies damnable damnation is in these heresies and paul uses likewise strong words where he says 1 simathy 4 verse 1 now the spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith and giving heed to seducing spirits there's a seductive seduction aspect and doctrines of devils that's pretty significant isn't it these are not just doctrines that might be different points of view or different interpretations they're actually doctrines of devils that the devil has manufactured them and is behind them that's pretty serious isn't it doctrines of devils we don't want that we might have different slight differences on you know insignificant aspects of particular views of this or that but when it's a doctrine of a devil that's something that's not we don't play games with that do we so heresies are dangerous the bible talks about these toxic kind of teachings and spiritual error

[8:06] deep spiritual error we need to be alert to that it's very important and so i don't shy away from speaking out against error where it's needful we must guard against error because it can lead to spiritual deception and even false salvation and a false sense of security satan has a church did you know that i don't know where where that church is but it's called the synagogue of satan there's a sense where those that might assemble under his uh kind of domain it's quite shocking to think that satan is really behind a lot of the world's religions isn't he these weren't just invented by some false prophets they're actually the devil instigated them and satan is very active in the church even in churches just like ours even within the real church satan doesn't stop his work he doesn't he doesn't stand outside he comes inside the church and he's very real in his works and amongst us the bible talks about chaff amongst the wheat that even some we might think uh oh they're a christian but no they sing the songs just like me but they're not even saved that's the real truth that and we need to all be mindful of that you might be a church goer and yet not saved that's really really important that you don't think i'm a christian because i go to church no i'm a christian because i trust christ as my savior that's what matters that's what counts and don't trick yourself or don't let the devil trick you to think that i'm a christian because i go to church no you're a christian because you trusted christ as your savior that's because that's what makes you a believer and so some would go to church but not know god and they have religion but they've not been born again it's really important to know that for yourself and the word warns how that satan has his own ministers and that they can even seem to be ministers of righteousness they might be very popular very popular you know some of the greatest potentially the greatest tv preachers could be even apostles claiming to be apostles it says they're transforming themselves into the apostles of christ it says and no marvel this is it's no surprise here for satan himself is transformed into an angel an angel of light therefore it's no great thing if his ministers satan's ministers also be transformed into ministers of righteousness so they can have all the show and be actually doing the devil's work so these are these are very sobering words aren't they really and so we want to be very careful i must be very careful we must be very careful every believer some will pretend to be messengers of god when actually they're the opposite and so we must be careful about doctrine doctrine matters it matters it truly does so when i hear as i've said before someone maybe going to some new church or whatever by all means go to a like-minded church but don't go to the ones that are not teaching the truth don't go to them don't mess around with them don't have a bar of it we must be careful about our doctrine it matters it truly does about what we follow about who we follow we're warned about literally apostasy it tells us that of the end times 2 thessalonians 2 verse 3 paul says to the the thessalonians he says let no man deceive you by any means for that day shall not come talking about the day of christ except they come a falling away first and that man of sin be revealed the son of perdition saying here in the context of the last days he's saying let no man deceive you don't be deceived before the antichrist comes there's going to be a falling away a deception and many are falling for all kinds of teachings they really are it's almost like there's no discernment i've seen it sometimes when i popped into kurong a local christian bookshop in adelaide and the top 10 books sometimes it's it's the worst 10 they could pick sometimes i think i've got a whole room full of good christian

[12:11] books on the whole and we need to try to get good christian material while we can while it's still there it's getting scarcer but many are falling for all kinds of rubbish and preachers are especially warned you know this is even more incumbent on such as me or whoever is preaching sharing the word of god as james writes my brethren be not many masters knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation it's talking about bible teachers saying don't be many of you bible teachers because there's a severe warning here because there's a greater judgment i'm going to be accountable for what i'm telling you if it's wrong woe to me woe to me and so we all need to take it really really seriously it's the same applies to you if you're telling someone something that's false doctrine don't do that you know if you're in a place of teaching of ministering or telling make sure you've got the truth you're telling the truth because we face a greater level of judgment in that sense we're accountable we really are and so it's important that we label things correctly there's such a thing as false doctrine this is not about differences of opinion that this doctrine that is true that sound this doctrine that is false it's wrong it's like i've heard it put how we can be sincerely wrong i know in my tool shed i've got some bottles here and there and one of them looks like raspberry cordial but it's actually weed killer and if one of my little grandkids come some visits i want to make sure that they don't go anywhere near that uh that that red cordial no that that weed killer right because it's got to have the right label on it it's the same with doctrine we're going to say actually i'm going to label that false doctrine that's poison and i'm going to label that sound doctrine that's true it's the same isn't it we can be sincerely wrong and glug glug glug thinking that's a red cordial when it's actually poison so we must label things don't be afraid to say actually that's false that's true don't be afraid to do that now i'm going to get a bit more in your face here for example some churches practice slaying in the spirit slaying in the spirit where they line up and have a big altar call and and have a big show and call people forward to um have some spectacle some uh experiential encounter and the preacher lays his hand on their head and they fall down on the ground sometimes they gyrate and have all kinds of contortions and manifestations some churches practice slaying in the spirit it's called it's not in the bible that's the problem it's not there you can search through the whole bible it's just not in there and so we don't practice that as a church women pastors are not in the bible you can search through your whole bible there's no women pastors in in your bible it's just not there so if it's not in the bible we're not going to do it we're not going to have that um there's people who think that they are speaking in tongues today they're speaking in tongues they think i was one of them but i've come to see that speaking in tongues in the bible were actual human languages they were human languages not pretend not gibberish not gobbledygook and it was for a particular reason that god gave it a season of the church and that the bible teaches us that tongues will cease and i believe they have ceased like the bible foretold when it happened in acts 2 you've got to look at all the references to the occasions of tongues tongues are biblical yes but what we're seeing today is not the biblical tongues it says when it happened in acts 2 these different language groups were there and it says how notice how we hear every man in our own tongue wherein we were born they heard in natural human languages that was what it was that was for the

[16:14] reason or the season for the judgment of israel friends that's what it was we believe in biblical tongues and exercising them biblically which is in the first century when they were necessary to show judgment on israel it was assigned to the unbelievers it's assigned to this people and the stammering tongues and such it was particular and specific and it's fulfilled its purpose so we're not saying we don't believe in tongues we're saying we believe in biblical tongues for biblical reasons for a biblical season and some teachers are preaching these days what they call the health wealth and prosperity gospel they say that it's god's will for you to all be very wealthy and healthy and never have anything go wrong and just have it all laid on and it's all going to be fine and dandy and it's always god's will to heal you but you're never going to get sick if you get sick you must not have enough faith that's a whole lot of hogwash it's not biblical it's not it's not in the bible friends it's really not and so what matters is the doctrine has to be biblical that's the point i'm making i hope i'm not you know touching on too many sore points here today but i must tell you the truth i must tell you the truth paul says have i become your enemy because i'm telling you the truth i'm telling you the truth today it's not always god's will to heal look at job the just most just man on all the earth you might be very sick there's there's some in our number who are very sick and at home i meant to pray for one of them actually that came to mind before there's people that are not well they're actually not well there's no lack of faith on their part this doesn't mean they're under some judgment of god sometimes god allows sickness to come our way just as he did with job there's nothing wrong with getting sick we can trust the lord for our healing we can ask the lord for healing we can we believe in healing in answer to believing prayer when it's god's will that's not always god's will to heal that's the point i'm making we have some churches that baptize babies i had a lady ring me just uh yesterday saying oh pastor we'd like to get our our daughter baptized i said oh that's nice to hear you've got an interest in that and i talked about how when someone believes they can be baptized yeah oh she's nine months old well it's going to take a miracle for that baby to be able to be baptized because they have to believe and then they're baptized that's biblical that's what the bible says we will pray for families with little ones to dedicate them unto the lord and i tried to be welcoming to that one and try to explain simply yes we'd love to pray for you and your family and your baby but we don't baptize them because the christening the sprinkling with water does nothing it's not biblical we know that sadly some lutherans in fact say that a baptized baby is born again friends that is absolutely not biblical absolutely not biblical so please don't don't have a bar of that it's it's false teaching and it's even in churches that would say well the lutherans aren't too bad well actually some seventh day adventists teach that worship on a sunday is the mark of the beast the bible does not teach that does not teach that and at the rally just yesterday there was a guy giving out the great controversy and i had to tell someone don't touch that it's seventh day adventist they say some good things but it's the little bit of poison just a little bit of poison makes the whole thing no when we search the scriptures we can find the early church did actually meet on sundays for worship they met on the sabbath at the time the jewish church but it says they met on the lord's day acts 20 verse 6. so there's biblical reasons why we can worship on a sunday the lord's day as the bible calls it now some other people would believe in a pope a pope the word pope means papa father effectively they're calling this man

[20:22] their father the pope some believe in calling a person a pope or priests as they think of it as a father but the bible is very clearly against such things it's actually quite plainly wrong it's quite directly contrary to what the lord himself says as he tells us in matthew 23 verse 9 and call no man your father upon the earth for one is your father which is in heaven some churches are teaching you have to do good works to be saved but the bible is very clear about how we are saved and it's none of that it tells us for by grace are you saved through faith that not not of yourselves it is the gift of god not of works lest any man should boast and so some people would teach that salvation can be lost as well it's something you get given and it take he takes it away and might give it give it back to you no once you've got it it's a gift you've got it and he says i give unto them eternal life they shall never perish neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand so it's another important teaching to know yeah actually once i'm saved i'm forever saved it's god's gift and i have eternal life and it like that life it is eternal it is eternal that doesn't mean we act like the devil because we have it i'm not saying that but because we have it we know wow the grace of god it's the grace of god in receiving it is the grace of god in keeping me saved here's just a few examples of doctrine that is false that we've looked at here and so jude causes to earnestly contend for the faith earnestly contend for it in other words fight for it this is something worth fighting for these are fighting words from jude in jude chapter 1 verse 3 he tells us beloved when i gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation it was needful for me to write unto you and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints he says you should earnestly you should earnestly contend for it this is something that's serious doctrine matters so warning is biblical it's necessary it's important false doctrine it's not okay it's actually not okay this is not about going to some church that might have a bit more razzmatazz a bit more glitzy and showy and maybe they might like the jazzy kind of music or this or that or the preachers a bit more entertaining and such is it biblical that's what matters that's what should be the measure that doesn't mean we should be dowdy and miserable and uh all look like we're prunes uh or you know that we we're actually we've got a reason for joy we have got a reason for joy it's it's a glad blessed experience to know christ as your savior and and hopefully have some biblical fellowship and church is something that we can enjoy without to be misery gutsers you know uh there's a there's a blessing in our fellowshipping it's it's a blessed time to be amongst like-minded people and but false doctrine is not okay this is not about your choice about the style of music or or the you know how comfy the chairs are or how good the air conditioning is or whether they've got nice coffee afterwards or you get a muffin or something well it's about discerning what's what's true doctrine what's false and that's really it really is the bottom line and we can't mix the two together and hope for the best a preacher who does not warn is actually failing god i take this very seriously i know i'm being a little light-hearted i've got to rein that in sometimes but we've got to be careful that we are warning as a preacher i must warn you when i see someone who's plainly doing something sinful or they're plainly going off track or they're listening to some wacko teacher or going to some wacko teaching i must warn you i i warn you out of love out of out of my heart to help you to encourage

[24:30] you to lift you to point you in his direction and a preacher who does not warn is failing god it's like a getting a guard dog who doesn't bark and isaiah 56 we see the prophet isaiah tells of some their watchmen are blind imagine that you have a night watchman walking around with his cane and trying to keep guard over your property what kind of security guard would that be and then it's saying here that they're ignorant they're dumb dogs they cannot bark sleeping lying down loving to slumber imagine that you've got a guard dog there and uh but he won't bark what good is that if you had a guard dog like that you want to get your money back you want to take it back to the pet shop wouldn't you because it's not going to do the job and it's likewise with uh the sense of the one who's it is delivering truth to you you want to make sure actually i want i want you to bark at me sometimes i want you i want you to bark when there's a problem because if i do not warn you of the wolves i'm not a good shepherd false doctrine is sin it's sin it's sin the the devil is a liar and he's the father of lies so let me try to counter it more i know sometimes i i may make the mistake of dwelling too much on the negative i don't want to leave you feeling totally uh despondent this morning what is the positive side sound doctrine sound doctrine you know i'm not saying this is perfect but something like this good get some good material get some good material it matters it's important it's good to do that take time to study study and know the bible that's how you avoid heresy isn't it study and know the bible study it says 2 timothy 2 15 study to show thyself approved unto god a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth so fill your mind up with the wisdom of god fill your mind up with the word of god apply it hide it in your heart even better is to try i know some of our number love to talk about memorizing the word of god absolutely absolutely memorize the word of god it's one of the best things i did as a young believer someone gave me like a hundred bible verses and they encouraged me to remember them to memorize them and that took some application you know if you'd like such a list i can give you a good list of say 100 bible verses or 200 and yeah let me know and i'll email you the list that i recommend but it's having bible verses that and then they come out of your mouth because they're hidden in your heart and you can tell others the word of god it's really important fill your mind up with the word of god the bible is the ultimate source of good doctrine it's the inspired word of god and the bible reveals everything that we need to know about god and his plan for us so we know there's many verses that commend the word of god for example 2 timothy 3 16 all scripture is given by inspiration of god is profitable for doctrine there's that word doctrine teaching for reproof for correction for instruction in righteousness and test everything by the word of god test it test what i'm saying it's very important whoever speaks to you test everything it tells us prove all things hold fast that which is good and also test by seeking the guidance of the holy spirit our lord says in john 16 how be it when he the spirit of truth is come he will guide you into all truth for he shall not speak of himself but whatsoever he shall hear that shall he speak and he will show you things to come so we've got the resource of the word and the spirit enlightening the word illuminating the word and the holy spirit will always act in accord with his word that's why some that might make a big

[28:32] show or claim about the holy spirit actually if it's not scriptural it's not the holy spirit because notice he is the spirit of truth truth the bible contrasts the spirit of truth with the spirit of error error see that in one john 4 verse 6 we are of god he that knoweth god heareth us he that is not of god heareth not us hereby know we it says the spirit of truth and the spirit of error so i urge you lovingly urge you today hold fast to sound teaching find it and hold it fast and guard yourself against the false teaching hold fast to sound doctrine guard yourself against false teaching study and know the bible heresies can lead to all kinds of problems we know that even in a good church there's sometimes things creep in and bang it's a big a big fuss isn't that when false teaching comes in the strife within the church and sound doctrine really is what we need to bring unity and maturity to hold us together in that sound fellowship sound doctrine helps us to grow in our knowledge of god produces good fruit in our lives too and it's the word put into action in our lives doctrine sound doctrine is very practical it's not just you know a book on a shelf it's in our hearts isn't it it's in our lives it's it's walking in our shoes it's putting the word into action in our own lives it's lived out truth and we put our faith in christ into our real life it affects the whole way of thinking and living as james writes don't just be hearers of the word but be doers be you doers of the word not hearers only so there's a sense where we where where we get saved we start to get the truth and our lives change we have a whole new way of thinking and of living our daily walk is one of righteousness and truth god helping us will be fruitful and our lives will be lived out for his glory we'll put our faith into action we'll live it so sound doctrine helps us to live lives that honor him our lord and leads us to holy living sound doctrine protects us from error and so we we must search for the truth search the scriptures protect ourselves from false teaching by having that antenna kind of tuned in alert to deception it's a recurring theme really deception as our lord says there's numbers of scriptures matthew 24 mark 13 luke 21 2 timothy 3 titus 1 2 john 1 it talks about take heed no man deceive you false prophets are going to come they're going to deceive many take heed lest any man deceive you take heed that you be not deceived it says evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse deceiving and being deceived there's false teachers there that really believe what they're telling you they deceive themselves and it says for there are many deceivers they're going to come many deceivers are entered into the world so deception is a recurring theme that's why we always got to be switched on to be guarding ourselves from it seek to develop your discernment muscles how do you do that the word of god get more of the word it'll help you love the truth that way you can discern the false from the true sound doctrine it's really very very vital for you that believe for your relationship with god for your faith to withstand the tests that are going to come your way so pray for discernment for the guidance of the holy spirit now there's much talk these days about supposed revivals and there's a lot of talk about that right now and my approach is just be cautious and careful we must be guarded we must be guarded against error

[32:39] and where there's a mixture of error we know actually i'm not going to go along with that so again i don't want to appear negative in in an undue kind of way but i do want to tell you honestly and from my heart god helping me as a man of god that wrong doctrine is not something you toy with it's dangerous it's like a destructive virus and if there's a mix of false teaching with it we have to be very careful about accepting it paul did not mince his words he talks about janice and jambres who withstood moses he says they resist the truth men of corrupt minds reprobate concerning the faith that's pretty strong language isn't it or some people might have liked janice and jambres they might have been there the top of their uh youtube watch list to tune into those people you know as it were but actually no they're corrupt men of corrupt minds they resist the truth they're reprobate these are very strong words that's what paul tools tells us about such false teachers he wasn't afraid to apply a warning label poison he wasn't afraid to label it and so likewise we must label toxic teaching and keep away from it again paul says of some withdraw thyself from them don't join forces with them he doesn't say get together with them don't go and join the local ministers fraternal and pretend you're all brothers and sisters in christ because there's a lot of that what they call the ecumenical movement going on where you've got all kinds of churches with all kinds of different doctrine even different salvation for example when the seventh day advanters teach that you've got to be baptized to be saved you can lose your salvation you've got to keep the law virtually otherwise if you're not obedient enough then you lose your salvation that's garbage that's garbage salvation is a gift salvation is a gift and we have it by faith through god's grace and so we don't get together with those that have false doctrine and cause such confusion especially when they're teaching different gospels there's no no toying around with false gospels paul says very strongly in galatians 1 he says if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that you have received let him be accursed so really have to ask ourselves is it the true gospel is it salvation through faith by grace or is it something else if it's something if people are saying it's you know i'm saying it's by grace you're saved through faith that not of yourselves it is the gift of god by grace you're saved through faith someone over here says oh it's faith plus wrong it's not faith plus it's faith faith trust christ you're saved forever saved it's not faith plus my works faith plus my obedience faith plus my good works you know my living the life no it's not how you live it's christ in you it's faith in christ it's knowing christ as your savior that's what makes you saved and keeps you saved and there's no losing it once you are saved so commit to studying your bible stay connected to the body of believers that love the word of god seek counsel from mature wise spiritually sound leaders heresies distort the truth they take it away and they present this distorted version of the gospel and they lead to spiritual deception friends we must be very guarded and knowing the truth of the bible is the best way to defend yourself against heresies now just this last month we saw the opening of the abrahamic family house here pictured is pope francis i don't like calling him pope because the bible says don't call anyone pope or father but that's what the world calls him pope francis and the grand imam ahmed el tayyab of al-zazar it's a combined mosque church and synagogue this is

[36:42] what's happening it opens next wednesday if you're interested in going over there to uh abu dhabi uh opens to visit us from wednesday next week they've got a church a synagogue and a mosque all in the one complex and this is what the vatican news says about this place it's a place for learning dialogue and worship who are they worshiping what are they worshiping i put it to you that there can be no dialogue no dialogue as far as salvation goes there's no fellowship there's no communion between light and darkness and there's no salvation outside of christ as well-meaning as these people are they're not saved they don't have salvation i urge you today maybe you might say preacher i'm hearing what you're saying i don't know that i'm saved today i don't know that i have salvation please it's over here it's a gift by grace god's grace faith trust i receive it as many as received him to them gave you the power to become the sons of god the children of god even to them that believe on his name it's faith just reach out to him in faith and say lord jesus thank you you died on the cross for my sin you died for my sin in my place i trust you i trust you now for time and for eternity and it's done done all done at that point but you trust him you're forever saved by his grace he will keep you he'll he that started the work's going to complete it he that started the good work will see it through when you're saved you're saved forever saved and you can know that you can know that for sure you can say yeah i believe jesus died for my sin i trust him that's it that's that's everything that's the whole package right there in christ and so you can be saved today if you've yet to trust him but as far as those dialogue with those who've got some other kind of salvation they don't even have the savior there's no salvation there's no savior in islam there's no salvation outside of christ these people are lost so how can we have dialogue with them how can we have worship with them they're not even worshiping the same god but sound doctrine is centered in christ it's knowing christ it's knowing jesus it's knowing the lord jesus is your savior that's where salvation is and so as christians we must test everything because some people think this is all okay this sort of stuff is all yeah that's all it's all we're all all one big happy family we're all part of abraham's family no we're not if you don't have the savior you're not saved you're going to hell that's the truth of it let me be plain so let's test everything by the word of god the bible says let me wrap up here it tells us john writes beloved beloved believe not every spirit but try the spirits test them out whether they be of god for there are many false prophets gone out into the world hereby know we the spirit of god every spirit that confesseth that jesus christ has come in the flesh is of god and every spirit that confesseth not that jesus christ has come in the flesh is not of god this is the spirit of antichrist whereof you have heard that it should come even now already it is it in the world so as believers we we know there's a spirit of antichrist how plain how contrary to god can it be and so we must hold the truth of the gospel to know jesus to know him to know him as your lord that is what matters and so reject everything that deviates from that so as honest bible students today we have to ask ourselves if it's not biblical then why are we doing it honestly this slaying in the spirit this uh these extremes of pentecostalism um if it's not biblical why do it don't do it why are we teaching it i must guard about what i'm

[40:43]  teaching is it biblical i've got to be honest before god every time i every time i speak to you is it biblical i must be biblical so let's commit every one of us to to being biblical people to know the biblical salvation by grace through faith let's commit to be diligent in our study of his word we want to be a solid biblical church that's what we must be doctrine matters that's the point and so we believe in having that strong biblical foundation for what we do in practice it's serious it's serious it is serious it's critical it's foundational so i urge you again please be with me to repeat be discerning be discerning our lord says this deception and it's more more and more so so beware lest you be deceived take heed be vigilant and don't be afraid to question everything test everything and don't go to some flaky internet preacher that you know takes your fancy go to the word first go to the word first seek the search the scriptures first measure things get study resources from here and there but be discerning what you use and test every teaching and preaching by the word of god does it meet that standard is it biblical and if it doesn't pass the test we'll put it aside we must again most important of all do we know how to be saved this is the critical thing because there's some churches don't even tell you the gospel you don't even hear it that they think you're saved by getting baptized as a child as a baby for goodness sake that is woeful isn't it that's shocking evil i'll put to you that's a doctrine of devils isn't it to think you get saved by being sprinkled as a baby that's a doctrine of devils the bible doesn't teach that there's none of that the bible says believe on the lord jesus christ and thou shalt be saved that's the way to get saved so we strive we strive to be biblical in what we do what we teach what we stand for we will strive to be a biblical church committing to that determining to study the bible because doctrine matters doctrine is not a dirty word but some people say oh they're too doc there's too much doctrine there oh they're too biblical there you know we want a bit more light stuff we want a bit a bit more easy breezy you know actually we need biblical doctrine the the teaching matters it's important to have good teaching and we want to have that we don't want to be missing the point doctrine matters that's the point and so ground yourself in solid biblical teaching that's why we have a bible study in this church we'd like to see more people come to that and let's recognize false doctrine and reject it let's discern sound doctrine and stand for it why because doctrine matters let us pray lord we thank you for your word that is profitable unto us for doctrine it's that teaching we need bible teaching lord help us all all of us to firstly know how to be saved that we'll know that for sure and as save people to grow in that faith as we study your word we'll be discerning people you'll help us to determine truth from error and we'll say error is error we'll label it as poison as toxic and we won't want to touch it lord help us to be such a people all for your glory and praise in jesus name we pray amen
