[0:00] Christ in all the scriptures or Jesus in every book of the Bible. In Luke 24 the Lord was speaking to two of his disciples after his resurrection and it says,! And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. So you could put it that really in every page of your Bible, Jesus is there in some fashion, in some glimpse of who he is, of his character, of his person. [0:34] We see there's different books of the Bible of course, there's the books of the law, the first few books, there's the books of history, books of poetry, there's the major prophets, the minor prophets, there's the gospels in the New Testament, church history in Acts, Paul's epistles and then the general epistles and Revelation. He expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. So let's have a look at all the books of the Bible, just a quick bird's eye view if you like. Genesis. In Genesis we see Christ there is the creator really, the redeemer, he's the promised seed of the woman. In Genesis 3 it tells this prophecy how there'll be hatred, enmity between thee and the woman, between thy seed and her seed, talking about the devil, it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel. So it's saying that Christ is going to overcome satan and it's speaking really of the cross to come, that the seed of the woman who is Christ will overcome. We see really Christ is the breath of life that God breathed into Adam. Some have reckoned too you could say that Jesus is Noah's ark and Noah's rainbow because it's all Christ isn't it, his salvation pictured there. So Jesus the creator, the redeemer, the seed of the woman in Genesis. [2:05] Exodus we see he's the Passover lamb. We could see him right through all the pictures of the tabernacle, really all the different furniture, the furnishings of the tabernacle. Jesus is pictured there in Exodus. [2:19] But especially as the Passover lamb, the blood was applied and the angel passed over those where the blood was applied. They were safe under the blood. Of course speaking for us of Christ's blood that we save if we apply his blood, if we trust Jesus to be our saviour, we can be safe. We see in Leviticus, he's the high priest. There's a high priest who conducted the ministry and in him, in his living, in his example, he pictures for us Christ too. And of course as I say in the various parts of the tabernacle, the lamp stand, the showbread and the very sacrifice on the altar. [3:02] The high priest. Jesus is the perfect high priest now for us. We can come unto him as that one who intervenes for us and mediates for us as the high priest. Numbers. In Numbers we see he's the water in the desert. Jesus is the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. He gives that living water from that smitten rock. It also talks about him being the star and the scepter. It says there shall come a star out of Jacob and a scepter shall rise out of Israel. So another prophecy that he will be like a star, a bright shining star and he'll be like a scepter, like a royal rule. That's Numbers. [3:47] Next one is Deuteronomy. It tells of our Lord in prophecy that he will be a prophet like Moses. So a prophet really greater than Moses. Of course we see Moses was a deliverer for God's people. Christ is greater than Moses really. It says the Lord will raise up unto thee a prophet from the midst of thee, like unto me, unto him you shall hearken. So Deuteronomy, a prophet like Moses. So a deliverer as Moses was. We see in Joshua it tells of the captain of the Lord's host. The captain of our salvation is Christ. He's the captain of our salvation. He leads us in to the promised land as pictured by Joshua. Of course we know in Joshua's day the walls of Jericho fell down. There was great victory as they enter the promised land. Joshua is a picture of Jesus. In fact Jesus, the name Jesus, is like to the name Joshua. And it says in Joshua 5, as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. [4:53] And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and did worship. So through the Old Testament the Lord Jesus appeared. The theological term is a Christophany. So it's like a manifestation of Christ. So Christ is everlasting. So he was there in the Old Testament and we see glimpses of him. But of course he was born of a woman. He was made of a woman when he came at his nativity when he was born in Bethlehem. [5:20] But Christ is right through the Old Testament. Every book of the Bible in all the scriptures. The next one we see the book of Judges. It talks about the angel of the Lord. Again that's another picture of Christ. Where it talks about the angel of the Lord. It's like a Christophany, a theophany. [5:37] The appearance of God. The appearance of Christ. So he's really the true and final judge and lawgiver. Through the book of Judges. He's the perfect lawgiver. The next book is Ruth. We see that the Lord Jesus is pictured for us as the kinsman redeemer. As Boaz was for Ruth, that relative who could redeem her. [5:58] Christ is that one of whom he was born of, Ruth's lion. He is that perfect one, the perfect redeemer who has come as the one who can save us as pictured in Ruth. The next book is 1 Samuel. [6:13] In 1 Samuel we see the Lord Jesus. He's the anointed king. As Samuel anointed David, we see that he is now the son of David, our Lord Jesus. He's the anointed king. And it prophesies of our Lord in 1 Samuel 2, verse 10. The Lord shall judge the ends of the earth and he shall give strength unto his king and exalt the horn of his anointed. So Samuel had a horn that he filled up with oil. He poured that on David's head, anointed him as the king. The next book, 2 Samuel. Likewise, it talks about the king of grace and of love, the son of David. In 2 Samuel we see Jesus is that son of David. It says in 2 Samuel 7, I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name and I'll establish the throne of his kingdom forever. So of course it's not talking about an earthly king, a human king, but the son of David is, the Lord Jesus is the everlasting king. And it says that his kingdom, his throne is forever. Next book is 1 Kings. [7:20] It talks about the Lord God of Israel and of a ruler greater than Solomon. In 1 Kings 8, verse 60, it says that Solomon prayed and here's the words that he prayed, that all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is God and that there is none else. There is none else. Here's the Lord. The Lord is God and there is none else. Of course we know the Lord God, the Lord Jesus, they're one and the same. They're the trifold, triune God. [7:48] God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Triune, 3 in 1. The Lord God, there is none else. The next book is 2 Kings. We see it speaks of the God of Israel. Of course we know Jesus is the righteous king. What did they call him? They nailed it to the top of his cross, the king of the Jews. [8:09] He's the God of Israel. He's the righteous king. It says in 2 Kings 17 36, but the Lord who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall you fear and him shall you worship and to him shall you do sacrifice. The Lord Jesus is the God, the God of Israel. He's the true God. We see the next book, 1 Chronicles. It says of the Lord, that he is the king's son, the son of David coming to rule. It says, like to the other verse we read, he shall build me in a house and I will establish his throne forever. You know, the kingdom, the throne of our God is forever. It says in Revelation, he shall reign how long? Forever and ever. [8:53] In 2 Chronicles, he's the Lord, the God of our fathers, the king who reigns eternally. Jehoshaphat prayed and said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? And ruleest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? And in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee. He's the Lord God of our fathers. The next book is Ezra. [9:18] It says that he is the Lord, the God of heaven. He's the faithful restorer of the temple. There's many pictures here, many glimpses of him that we could unpack and explore, but we're just really scratching the surface. But he is the Lord God of heaven. Next book is Nehemiah. He's the great and he's the awesome God. In Nehemiah 1 verse 5, it reads, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God. In other words, terrifying, awesome God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments. And we know of Nehemiah himself, he's the restorer of what is broken. Think of our Lord. He does all that, doesn't he? He restores that which is broken. He's the great and terrible God, the great and awesome God, our great God and saviour, Jesus Christ. The next book is Esther. And in the book of Esther, we could see how Esther pleaded before the king. She was the advocate for God's people. And likewise, our Lord is that advocate with the father. He's the protector of his people. In Esther 8 verse 4, it reads, Then the king held out the golden scepter toward Esther. [10:32] So Esther arose and stood before the king. You know, it was a fearsome thing. It was a brave act of devotion. She stood before the king and was the advocate for the people of God. And so too, our Lord. It tells of him that he's the advocate. We have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ, the righteous. The next book is Job. And in Job, we see that the Lord Jesus is my redeemer. We know Job cried out, For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. [11:07] Job in all of his suffering, yet he confessed by faith, I know that my redeemer liveth. We've got an ever-living redeemer. Jesus is that living redeemer and our true comforter. He's the mediator between God and man. It talks about having a mediator too in the book of Job. So Christ is that one who mediates between God the father and sinful man. We see another book is the book of Psalms. And amongst many things really, we could see many things in Psalms, but one in particular we could note, of course, we see in John chapter 10, the Lord Jesus says, I am the good shepherd. And he is the good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. And he hears our cries. And of course, Psalm 23, David says, the Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. The Lord is my shepherd. The next book is Proverbs. We see the wisdom of God. Proverbs is jam packed full of gems of wisdom, of right standing, of right living, the wisdom of God, right through Proverbs. And wisdom is personified too. It's pictured as a person. And [12:22] Christ is the wisdom of God. We see it reads 1 Corinthians, it tells us that Christ is the wisdom of God. The next book is Ecclesiastes. Of course, we could reckon that as the philosopher search for the meaning of life, Christ is the meaning of life. He's the one who makes life make sense. He's the one who makes life worth living. And he is the purpose for life. He's the giver of life. He's the sustainer of our life. And some would reckon too, maybe the preacher himself, that Christ is pictured there, tells of the preacher, Ecclesiastes 1 verse 1, the words of the preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Of course, Christ is the son of David. He is the king, the rightful king of Jerusalem too. Next book is the Song of Solomon. And in the Song of Solomon, chapter 2 verse 1, it reads about the Lord Jesus, you could see it there as his words, I am the rose of Sharon and the lily of the valleys. And we see through the book of the Song of Solomon, that the Lord Jesus is the faithful lover, the loving faithful bridegroom coming for his bride. [13:33] Of course, the church is pictured, a likened to a bride and Christ is the perfect groom, the bridegroom. And so pictured there in the Song of Solomon as well. So Christ in all the scriptures, see the pattern, Christ in all the scriptures. Sometimes we might neglect the Old Testament thinking that Christ is not there, but Christ is there in every page, in every chapter. In effect, we can see his hand, we can see his works. [13:59] The next book we see is the book of Isaiah. And we know that it tells of our Lord in Isaiah 7 verse 14, Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel. Now the word Emmanuel means God with us. [14:25] Of course, our Lord also is the suffering servant of Isaiah 53, wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. So it's very much a prophecy that Christ is coming, God is going to be with us. He's coming in the person of his very son. [14:42] And of course, it reads in Isaiah 9 verse 6, For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. [15:00] You could reckon too that he's in Isaiah 32 verse 2. He's the shadow of a great rock in a weary land, isn't he? He's the rock, Christ Jesus, one of his titles as well. That's given to us in the New Testament, that he's the rock as well. [15:18] The next book is Jeremiah. Another book of the Bible, one of the major prophets, Jeremiah. And we could see he's the balm of Gilead. There's the healing of who he is. He is the healer of our hurt. [15:33] Especially the greatest hurt is our sin. And of course, in Jeremiah 23 verse 5 and 6, it says, In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely. And this is his name, whereby he shall be called the Lord our Righteousness. [15:51] So, the Lord our Righteousness is one of his titles. And it's interesting, in that verse, Jeremiah 23 verse 6, it's the Lord, capital L-O-R-D. In other words, Yahweh. It's a great one to use with, for example, Jehovah's Witnesses, who would deny that Jesus is Jehovah. It's actually telling us here, it's a really good verse to tell people, well, this is Jehovah. This is the Lord. L-O-R-D. Our Righteousness. It's Jesus. It's Jesus right there. [16:19] In Jeremiah 23 verse 6, In his days shall Judah be saved. This is his name, the Lord our Righteousness. Another book is Lamentations. And it's a like to that. It's got this theme, the Lord is Righteous. [16:36] He's the Faithful One. It tells of the weeping prophet, the Lord is Righteous. Of course, the most perfect and most righteous one, the absolutely righteous one, of course, is our Lord, isn't it? [16:49] He is Righteous. In Ezekiel, we see he's also pictured as the Son of Man. One of the names that he uses in the Gospels, he's the Son of Man. In Ezekiel, you could see that he's the river of life, bringing healing to the nations. [17:07] And Ezekiel 2 verse 3, it reads, He said unto me, Son of Man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me. And someone reckoned he's in the four-faced man as well, in the book of Ezekiel. [17:20] Again, there's many pictures you could draw out, many, not just the ones that I'm giving you in all of these books. In Daniel, we could see that he is the Ancient of Days. [17:32] It says in Daniel 7 verse 9, it reads, So it's saying that Daniel saw this one, he's called the Ancient of Days. [17:54] So he's got that everlasting characteristic, and that he's got this garment as white as snow. No, he's got a throne as a fiery flame. [18:06] Of course, we could also see the Lord Jesus as that one who is the fourth man in the fire. When you've got Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, they didn't bow down to the idol, but they stood firm in the honour of God. [18:21] And the king threw them into the burning, fiery furnace, heated it up seven times more than normal. And the king spied in the eye hole to see. And he said, Didn't we cast three men in? [18:32] Well, there's a fourth one. And he's like the Son of God. They could see that he was, Jesus was there. And they were kept safe and escaped the fire without harm. [18:43] And here's the fourth man, the fourth man in the fire as well in Daniel. In the book of Hosea, we see he's the Lord, the living God. He's the ever faithful husband, pursuing his unfaithful bride. [18:55] Now, in the book of Hosea, we see God's people are pictured as an unfaithful bride, not living righteously and backsliding. And yet, God's perseverance and patience in his long suffering, in extending his love. [19:12] And the Lord is likewise for us, that living God. He's the ever faithful husband. We see in the book of Joel, that he is the hope of Israel. He's the restorer of what? [19:24] The locusts have eaten. And the one who will pour out his spirit in the last days upon his people. In Joel 3 verse 16, it reads, The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth shall shake. [19:39] But the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. The Lord will be the hope of his people. Friends, the Lord Jesus is that hope, isn't he? [19:50] For you that believe, here's your hope. There's a hope that you have that is Christ. Christ in you, the hope of glory. We see Christ is a great hope for us that believe. [20:00] The next book is Amos. We see in Amos that he is the Lord, the restorer of Israel. It tells in Amos 9 verse 11, In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that has fallen. [20:12] Jesus is the one. Here pictured, he's the burden bearer. Likewise in Amos, he's the one who carries our burdens. He carries our sorrows. He carries our sin. As he took that burden of the cross, was really the burden of our sin that he paid for there. [20:29] The next book is Obadiah. It tells of Obadiah. Christ is really pictured here as the deliverer. He's the judge of all the earth. He is mighty to save. [20:40] Jesus is mighty to save, isn't he? He's mighty to save. He is the deliverer. Jonah is the next one. He's the God of second chances. We see Jonah called and he scarpered. [20:55] He refused. He turned away from God's call. But the word of God came to him the second time. God spoke to him the second time. And it's like that with God, isn't it? [21:05] He gives us that opportunity. He gives us that opportunity to trust him over and over again. Jesus is the salvation of all lands. And we can see in picture two, as the prophet was in the depths for three days. [21:20] Of course, we see that picture as Christ being in the tomb for three days. Then he came out alive. As, of course, our Lord was in the grave three days. [21:31] He was risen from the dead. And it's a picture of his resurrection there as well. The next book is Micah. In Micah we see he's the ruler of Israel. He's the promised Messiah born in Bethlehem. [21:45] In the book of Micah it talks about how he casts our sin into the sea of forgetfulness. And in Micah 5 verse 2 it reads, But thou Bethlehem, Ephrata, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me, that is, to be the ruler in Israel. [22:04] His goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. So Micah 5 verse 2 tells us this one who's going to be born in Bethlehem, he is from everlasting. [22:16] Everlasting. He is the eternal God. And it says he shall be the ruler in Israel. And, of course, in Micah 2 it talks about the messenger with beautiful feet. [22:27] We see Christ too as a light to that tomb. Next book is Nahum. He's the avenger of God's elect. It talks about Nineveh and destruction and pictures the coming of the Lord, of the coming end time and of future world peace. [22:44] We see that Nahum pictures that he will provide and save God's people in time of wrath. We see in Habakkuk that the Lord Jesus is pictured in Habakkuk as the Holy One. [22:59] It says in Habakkuk 1 verse 12, Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? Habakkuk 3 verse 19 it says, The Lord God is my strength and he will make my feet like hinds feet, like the feet of a deer. [23:13] And he will make me to walk upon mine high places. So it's saying here, the Lord God is my strength. Of course, in Habakkuk it says, you know, though the fig tree does not blossom and all these things that are going wrong, he says, yet will I rejoice in the Lord. [23:27] And so we see Habakkuk, another picture, that he is from everlasting. He's the Holy One. He's going to make a stand on the high places. We see the next book is Zephaniah. [23:39] In Zephaniah we see that Christ is the King of Israel. In Zephaniah 3 verse 17 it says, The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty. He will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy. [23:53] He will rest in his love. He will joy over thee with singing. So we see in Zephaniah, he's the Saviour. He's the coming Lord. See the picture of Christ coming in the end of days. [24:04] Next book is Haggai. He's the desire of all nations. In Haggai 2 verse 7 it reads, I will shake all nations and the desire of all nations shall come. [24:15] And I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts. Isn't he that desire of all nations? The one that we long for, the one that we look for, the one that we should watch for and be ready for his coming. [24:29] The desire of all nations. It says, the desire of all nations shall come. Amen. Next book is Zechariah. We see that he's the branch or the stone. [24:41] These are words to describe this one who would come, pictured as a branch. It says, he shall grow up out of his place. He shall build the temple of the Lord. He shall bear the glory. [24:51] He shall sit and rule upon his throne. And he shall be a priest upon his throne. In Zechariah 2 it talks about a fountain opened in the house of David. A fountain opened for sin and uncleanness. [25:04] Of course we can think as the Bible speaks about that the blood of Jesus Christ, God's son, cleanseth us from all sin. The absolute cleansing that we need is the cleansing of our heart from sin. [25:15] The Bible says that he is going to open this fountain for sin and uncleanness. He's the only one who can cleanse our heart from sin and uncleanness. And it says that he is the one who is that cleansing fountain. [25:29] It also says in Zechariah that he is the pierced one who every eye on earth shall see. The one that they've pierced, they'll see that they've pierced him. They'll see the pierced hands of our Saviour one day. [25:42] And that's in Zechariah, prophesied many years before he came to live on earth. The next book, the last one of the Old Testament is Malachi. Malachi, it says in Malachi he's the messenger of the covenant. [25:55] It tells of our Lord that he's like this sun, the S-U-N that's in the sky, the sun of righteousness that's going to be rising with healing in his wings. And here's the refiners fire as well. [26:07] It says unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings. So it's telling us here that Lord Jesus is the one who has healing in his wings. [26:18] It's his nature to minister, to save his people. So we got through the Old Testament. We got, is it 27 to go? We got, the next book is Matthew. [26:29] Matthew, the Gospel of Matthew. It says the son of David, the son of Abraham in Matthew 1 verse 1. Jesus is the king of the Jews. He's the son of Abraham. He's the son of David. [26:40] As we've had in a recent sermon lately, Matthew. See in Mark, it tells of him he's the son of God. He's the son of God. The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the son of God. [26:53] Mark 1 verse 1. So Matthew, son of David. Mark, son of God. Gospel of Luke, he's the saviour. They're all giving different characteristics, different facets of his person. [27:05] In Luke, he's the saviour, the son of man. And it says in Luke 2 verse 11, For unto you is born in the city of David a saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Another beautiful picture of who he is, the saviour, Christ the Lord. [27:21] And then the fourth Gospel, of course, the Gospel of John. It says that he's the word. He's the lamb of God. In John 1, it talks about the word. It says in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. [27:35] And it says, of course, that the word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us. And then in John 1, 29, it says, John the Baptist seeth the Lord Jesus coming unto him and saith, Behold, the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. [27:50] He's that perfect lamb. Pictured right through the Old Testament times of those many lambs that were slain. Christ is the perfect lamb. He's the perfect spotless lamb of God. He's the one, the only one, who can save, he can take away the sin of the world. [28:05] So the next book is Acts. In Acts, we see of our Lord that he's the Prince of Life. In Acts 3, verse 15, as Peter addressed the throng in Jerusalem, and he tells of the risen Lord, he says, That you've killed the Prince of Life, whom God hath raised from the dead. [28:24] The Prince of Life, it's the Lord Jesus, he's the Prince of Life. Next book is Romans. In Romans, we can see that the Lord Jesus, he's our grace. The Lord Jesus is our justifier. [28:37] He's our justification. He's the very righteousness of God. In Romans 10, verse 12, it says, For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. [28:50] So the Lord Jesus, it says, he's the Lord of all. The Lord of all that call on him. It doesn't matter whether you're a Jew or a Gentile. It doesn't matter what your culture or ethnic background, or whether you came from the children of Israel or not. [29:05] He is the Lord of all. The Lord of all that call upon him. And so that's true for you today. It's true for me. We can call upon him, no matter what. Our background, whether Jew or Gentile, if we can call upon the Lord, it says that he is the same Lord, the same Lord over all. [29:23] Next book is 1 Corinthians. In 1 Corinthians, it tells you that he is the last Adam. The last Adam. Also, he's pictured as the rock. And in 1 Corinthians 15, 45, it reads, So it was written, the first man, Adam, was made a living soul. [29:39] The last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Of course, we know the first Adam, Adam and Eve, back in the Garden of Eden. Adam fell. Sin came upon the earth. The curse of sin and death, of judgment, of the penalty of sin. [29:55] Jesus is the last Adam. He's the second Adam. He's the one who has provided salvation. And in the last Adam, we can have everlasting life. [30:06] Because he's paid for the fall of man. He's paid his price in his blood. So we can know God's salvation. He's the life-giving spirit. Next one is 2 Corinthians. [30:17] He's the God of all comfort. It tells us in 2 Corinthians 1, verse 3, it reads, Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. [30:30] There's a comfort in Christ. Of course, we know the Holy Spirit is the comforter. He's the comforter for we that trust him. There's a comfort. There's an encouragement. There's a peace that we can know in Christ today. [30:43] Because he is the one who brings that soul comfort. The only one who can do that. In Galatians, we see, it tells you that he's the redeemer. In other words, he's the one who sets us free. [30:55] To redeem means to... To set free. To effectively pay a ransom price. A price of a slave. As purchased by the redemption price from the slave market. [31:08] That's what the Lord Jesus has done. He's paid the price for our liberty. He sets you free. He fulfills the law and he sets you free. It says in Galatians 3 verse 13. [31:20] That Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law. Being made a curse for us. For it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree. So he went to the very extent of the very cross. [31:33] The cruel cross. To be the one to be cursed for us. Of course, we see what happened in the garden. The curse. The curse of sin. The curse of the fall. Man has been cursed. [31:44] The planet has been cursed. The planet has fallen ever since Adam's fall. We're living on a cursed, fallen planet. But Christ has come to redeem us from the curse of the law. [31:58] He's paid by being the very curse. The very cursed one. By dying on the cross. Because it was considered a curse to die on a cross. It was considered a curse. A great judgment to be hanged on a cross to be crucified. [32:14] But Christ loved us so that he was willing to be counted, cursed for us. We see in Ephesians, he's the chief cornerstone. It talks about the church of God. [32:25] He's the head of the church. It's not some man in Rome. Or some other preacher or minister of some headquarters here or there. Christ is the head. [32:35] The true head of the church. And he's the chief cornerstone. He's the one that holds that building together. As that fundamental foundation stone. And also it talks about the Lord Jesus as being the one who provides us God's armour. [32:50] The spiritual armour to fight our enemy. And so it reads in Ephesians 2 verse 20. The foundation of the church. It's built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. [33:03] Christ in all the scriptures. Christ in all the scriptures. You're getting the concept here tonight. We see in the next one, Philippians. Philippians. We're getting through the New Testament. Not long to go now. [33:14] We're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I know it's a long journey. But it's just painting that picture. 66 books. Christ is in all the scriptures. [33:25] Philippians. He is your joy. The book of Philippians talks about the joy that we have. It's very much a book of rejoicing. Of rejoicing in the Lord. And it says of him that his name is above every name. [33:41] Philippians 2. That familiar scripture it says of our Lord. Philippians 2 verse 9. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him. And given him a name. Which is above every name. [33:53] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. Of things in heaven and things in earth. And things under the earth. And that every tongue should confess. That Jesus Christ is Lord. [34:05] To the glory of God the Father. And one day it tells you here. One day your knee shall bow. And your knee shall confess. Of course we can do that before glory. And we ought to do that before glory. [34:17] To confess yes. Jesus Christ is my Lord. To the glory of God the Father. Colossians it says that he is our completeness. Christ is enough. [34:28] It tells you that he is the image of the invisible God. The firstborn of all creation. And the head of the church. And it tells of our Lord that in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. [34:41] So here's the complete package. He is God. In that human manifestation. God the Son. Expressing the fullness of the Godhead. [34:53] In his very person. We see in 1 Thessalonians. He's the coming Lord. Jesus is coming. Amen. He came once. As a babe in a manger. [35:04] But he's coming again. As the King of glory. Amen. He's coming again in power and glory. And he's coming soon. It says that Jesus is coming again with a trumpet sound. And with a shout. [35:15] To meet the believers in the clouds. It tells you in 1 Thessalonians 4 verse 16. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven. With a shout. With the voice of the archangel. [35:27] With the trump. The trump of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. And then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together. With them. In the clouds. [35:38] To meet the Lord in the air. And so shall we ever be. With the Lord. What a joy that is. To think of that. The Lord himself shall descend. Are you ready? [35:50] Are you ready for his coming? The next book is 2 Thessalonians. It tells him he is the judge. It tells of our returning king. In 2 Thessalonians 1 verse 7. [36:01] When the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven. With his mighty angels in flaming fire. Taking vengeance on them. That know not God. And that obey not the gospel. Of our Lord Jesus Christ. [36:12] Who shall be punished. With everlasting destruction. From the presence of the Lord. And from the glory of his power. When he shall come. To be glorified in his saints. And to be admired in all them. [36:23] That believe. So for some. This day of his coming. And this is. These are. Telling words. These are words that should. Provoke us to think. [36:34] If we're not in Christ. It says he's going to come. And there'll be everlasting destruction. For some. Everlasting destruction. But in others it says. [36:45] He shall come. To be glorified. In his people. It's very important. That we know. That we know. Him. As saviour and Lord. [36:56] Because he is coming. As the judge. But thank God. He's extending pardon. As the judge. He's the only one. Who can do that. He is the judge. And he can say. I pardon you. [37:06] Even though you're guilty. Because the penalty. Is being paid. At Christ's cross. He's the only one. Who can pardon you. And friends. I urge you. To receive his pardon. Receive his pardon. [37:17] Yes Lord. I believe. You died for my sin. I trust you. As my saviour. You'll either face him as judge. Or as saviour. It's your choice. [37:30] In 1 Timothy. It tells us. There's a mediator. Between God and man. The man Christ Jesus. The saviour of the worst of sinners. Paul said. That I'm the chief of sinners. This is the. [37:42] Probably the most glowing example. Of a. Of a. Godly man. Is Paul. And he says. I'm the chief of sinners. I'm the worst. Of sinners. [37:53] And yet. There's a mediator. For the worst. You might say. I don't deserve. I don't. I don't deserve salvation. You don't know what I've done. Pastor. Look. [38:04] Paul's worse than you. He got saved. Amen. Thank God. There's salvation. For all he called. Upon his name. And there is one mediator. He's still there. There that one. Who can intervene. [38:15] Who can pay. That intervening one. That one. Who stands between you. And God the father. And he can. Provide. A perfect salvation. We see. [38:25] In 2 Timothy. That he's the righteous judge. In 2 Timothy 4. Verse 8. It says. As Paul looks forward. To the coming. Of our Lord. He says. Henceforth. There is laid up for me. [38:37] A crown of righteousness. Which the Lord. The righteous judge. Shall give me that day. And not to me only. But unto all them. Also. That love his appearing. [38:48] So he's the righteous judge. But again. For we that believe. Our judgment has been paid. Our penalty. Has been paid. Our pardon. Has been granted. And he's the righteous judge. [38:59] And when he comes. There'll be a crown of righteousness. For you. And then the next book. Titus. We see that he's the blessed hope. He's spoken of as our great God and saviour. [39:10] It says. Titus reads. Looking for that blessed hope. And the glorious appearing. Of the great God and our saviour. Jesus Christ. So there's a great. Anticipation. [39:20] There's a great expectation for you. That know him. The blessed hope. That joyful. Glad hope. That Christ is coming. And I'm ready. I'm ready. When he calls me. In Philemon. [39:34] He's the benefactor. So. Philemon talks about. This redeeming. Of one who'd gone away. And is restored. To effective service. [39:45] And. Some have reckoned. It's like a friend. Who sticks closer than a brother. Because that's the kind of. Love. The kind of. Endurance of our God. [39:56] The perseverance. The patience of our God. That even though we go away from him. We can be received. Unto him. He's the benefactor. The redeemer. So we finish. Pause letters. [40:06] Now we're onto the. The last leg here. Onto the general letters. We see. Hebrews. He's the great high priest. And he's the author. And finisher of our. Faith. [40:17] It says in Hebrews 4. Verse 14. Seeing then that we have a great high priest. That is passed into the heavens. Jesus. The son of God. Let us hold fast our profession. For we have not a high priest. [40:29] Which cannot be touched. With the feelings of our. Infirmities. But was in all points tempted. Like as we are. Yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly. Unto the throne of grace. That we may obtain mercy. [40:40] And find grace to help. In time of need. It's telling you there. That he's the great high priest. Now of course. In old testament times. It was a man. Just as we. A failing. Sinful man. [40:51] But this one. The great high priest. The Lord Jesus. Is that one. Who is the perfect. High priest. He was tempted. In all points. Like as we are. Yet without sin. He knows. [41:02] Human emotions. And feelings. And needs. And hurts. He knows temptation. And he knows. Your struggle. And so. It tells you here. You can come boldly. Unto him. [41:13] And he's always there. His grace. Is always availing. His throne. Is always available. For you to come to. At any time. And you can find grace. To help. In time of need. [41:24] The book of James. It tells us how. He's the Lord of glory. In James 2 verse 1. The Lord of glory. In 1 Peter. He's the chief shepherd. The living stone. [41:36] The rock of offense. It says. And when the chief shepherd. Shall appear. You shall receive a crown of glory. That fadeth not away. And of course. The theme of 1 Peter. Is hope. [41:47] In time of suffering. As well. That he's there for you. In the time. That. You have testing. He is there for you. He doesn't fail you. 2 Peter. He's the morning star. [41:59] It says that. It's as a light. That shines in a dark place. And talks about the day star. The morning star. Arise in your hearts. [42:09] Speaking about the Lord. As being like the morning star. And it says of him. That he's. Not willing that any should perish. He's faithful. And he's persevering. He's offering salvation. [42:21] To you that will believe. 2 Peter. 1 John. Nearly there. Nearly at the last. Few books here. 1 John. The word of life. He's the word of life. [42:32] It tells you that he is the true. And eternal God. In 1 John verse 1. It says. That which was from the beginning. Which ye have heard. Which ye have seen with our eyes. [42:43] Which we have looked upon. And our hands have handled. Of the word of life. The Lord Jesus is the word of life. The word of life. In 2 John. It says. He's the son of the father. [42:55] It says in 2 John 1 verse 3. Grace be with you. Mercy and peace. From God the father. And from the Lord Jesus Christ. The son of the father. In truth and love. He's the son of the father. [43:06] The son of God. And then 3 John. He's the truth. Verse 4. It says. I have no greater joy. Than to hear. That my children. Walk in truth. [43:19] Jude. He's the only wise God. The only wise God. In Jude 1 verse 24. It says. Now unto him. That is able. To keep you from falling. [43:30] And to present you. Faultless. Before the presence. Of his glory. With exceeding joy. To the only wise God. Our saviour. There be glory. And majesty. Dominion. [43:40] And power. Both now and ever. Amen. He's able to keep you from falling. That's the God. That we serve. That's Jesus. Who we love. He's the one who's able to keep you. [43:52] He's able to save you. And he's able to sustain you. He's able to save you. And to maintain your salvation. He is the one. Who saves. And sanctifies. And heaven is yours. [44:04] Because of everything. That Jesus is. He's able to keep you from falling. And then just lastly. The last book of the Bible. Revelation. He's the Alpha. [44:15] And the Omega. We started with Genesis. Now we're at Revelation. It goes from A to Z. Isn't it? The A to Z of the Bible. Genesis. The first book. Revelation. The last book. [44:26] Alpha. The first letter of the Greek alphabet. Omega. The last letter. Of the Greek alphabet. He says. I am Alpha. And Omega. He says. I am the beginning. And the ending. [44:38] Saith the Lord. Which is. Which was. And which is to come. The Almighty. They're the words of our Lord. In some Bibles. It puts them in red. As far as we can understand. [44:51] It's the words of our Lord. He is that one. He is the Alpha. And the Omega. He is the beginning. And the ending. And it says. In Revelation 19. Verse 16. [45:02] And he hath on his vesture. And on his thigh. A name written. King of kings. And Lord of lords. That's who he is. He's the king of kings. He's the Lord of lords. [45:13] He can be your Lord. He can be your king today. He's the beginning and the end. He's the lamb slain. Before the foundation of the world. And he's your coming king. You that trust him today. [45:24] He's your coming king. Do you know him? The one lamb. The lamb that was slain. For sinners. The one who is the Alpha. And the Omega. The one who is the king of kings. [45:36] The Lord of lords. Do you know him today? It says. He's the one who is. He was. And he is to come. The almighty. Friends. [45:46] I urge you tonight. As we've considered these things. Tonight's been a bit of heavy going. It's just. Hopefully open your eyes to see. Wow. Jesus is in all the scriptures. As he conversed with his disciples. [45:59] After the resurrection. He expounded unto them. In all the scriptures. The things. Concerning himself. Of course we've only scratched the surface. There's many types. And pictures. [46:10] And references. And prophecies. Of Christ to come. In the Old Testament. And just unfolded. As we see. As we get to read all the books. He's in every page. [46:21] Sometimes we've just got to explore. And see. Yeah. Jesus is there. Jesus is there. Can mark them in our Bibles. As prophecies. As examples. As types. [46:32] And pictures. As reference of our Lord to come. And most of all. There's Christ in all the scriptures. There's Christ in your heart. There's Christ in your heart. [46:43] That's what counts. In these 66 books. We've got a telling account. Is it some 40 authors. Some centuries apart. Of different ones who've written the Bible. [46:54] Over history. Over time. And it's one cohesive volume. That is verifying. And cross referencing. [47:06] Many different parallels. Between all the different books. It fits together. As one whole. A whole picture. That Christ is in. Every book of the Bible. Is Christ in your heart. [47:17] Christ in your heart today. By faith. Let us pray. Lord we thank you. That you are the one. Who came. As we could. Rattle off all those things. That you are to us. The great one. Who came even from the book of Genesis. [47:29] Right through. To the last book. Lord you are the one. That you show yourself. Sometimes hidden. Sometimes revealed. Lord we see. Your great person. [47:40] And most of all. That you're the saviour. Of the world. Lord. You're the saviour of the soul. That trusts in you. We pray that each one. Might have that heart's trust. To say Lord Jesus save me. I want you to be my saviour. [47:52] I want to trust you. My life. In your hands. I want to give my heart to you. And I want you to. Lead me. In my life ahead. Help me to walk in your truth. [48:03] Help me to. See you more. In the Bible. As I. Might. Pay more attention to it. And to. Have regard to. Who you are. But most of all. That you would be. [48:14] In our hearts. By faith. Lord that. Your word tells us. That you dwell. In hearts. By faith. And we pray that each one. Might have that trust. To say. Yes I believe. I believe. You are my saviour. [48:25] You are my lord. I trust in you. In Jesus name. Amen. 66 books in God's holy word. [48:37] Telling the story of Jesus my lord.
