[0:00] Talking about the power of the blood of our Saviour. Praise the Lamb for sinners slain. Amen.! Hebrews 9.14. Hebrews 9.14. It reads,! [0:30] The blood of Jesus, our Lord. And it's right at the centre of our faith as well. And it's by the blood of Christ that we have redemption. [0:41] We've got purification. We've got new life. We've got salvation. We've got entry. We've got access to the very heart of God. And we've got such provision made if we just trust Him. [0:55] Trust Him. And think of what the blood of our Lord means for us today. Just some thoughts, some essential thoughts. Five thoughts about the blood this morning. [1:05] And firstly, we see that His blood redeems us. His blood is our source of redemption. It sets us free. It gives us liberty and freedom. The blood of Christ redeems us. [1:17] Sets us free from our sin, from our captivity. And we read that there in Ephesians 1.14 of the Lord. It says, Think of the redemption. [1:36] It's a purchase made. And we are His purchased possession that have trusted Him. And that purchased possession, think of it. It means you, believer. You're purchased. You're His property. [1:47] You're in His ownership. And redemption is not just a theological concept. But it's a living reality that we can know. Individually know. That you can know in your own life. And when we trust Christ as our Savior, that's when it happens. [2:01] We are redeemed. It means we're set free. He takes us from that bondage, from that captivity of the bondage of our sin. And He sets us free. And it's by His grace that He saves such as will come unto Him. [2:15] And He gives us a fresh start. A whole new life. Think of it, brothers and sisters. As we think about the precious blood that He freely shed. That our free freedom. Our real freedom. [2:27] Our pardon is secured for us because of His redeeming blood. That it was deliberately shed for us. And He secured that redemption for us who believe. [2:40] Secondly, we see that the blood of Christ brings cleansing. It purifies our hearts. It washes us from our sin. We see that there in 1 John 1 verse 7. [2:51] It reads, But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another. And the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanseth us from all sin. Nothing but the blood can make us clean. [3:04] Nothing but the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from sin. It washes away every stain of sin. It does a complete washing. And the blood of Christ, it can make you as clean as clean can be. [3:16] Makes you as pure before God as you possibly can be. And as we walk in the light, it says, The blood of Jesus, it continually cleanses us. Think of it, brother and sister today, of that cleansing blood. [3:29] Think of how we can be made clean. And how we can have that close and unbroken relationship with our precious Lord. And fellowship with our Lord and ourselves as well, with each other that know Him. [3:40] So let's live in this light that we are called to. To walk in that light. And it says that the blood of Jesus can make us clean. It can do that holy work. [3:52] And it still does that work. It still avails, doesn't it? As we apply that blood, it still does that work. And we think of the cleansing that He will keep us pure and holy by His grace at work. [4:03] Even though we don't feel holy, it's not about how we feel. It's the fact that His blood was shed to cleanse us from all sin. The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanseth us from most of our sin. [4:15] All of our sin. All of our sin. Think of that. It does a complete work. Amen. We can have a heartfelt assurance that, yeah, all of my sin has been dealt with. [4:27] At Calvary's Hill. It's right back there. Right back at the cross that my sin was dealt with there. It was in His body on the tree. [4:38] It was nailed there and paid for there. So think of it, friends, brothers and sisters today, that His blood redeems. His blood cleanses. And also we see, thirdly, that His blood gives victory for us over the enemy. [4:53] Think of all the accusations of the devil and the accuser of the brethren would try to dig up dirt on you. And that's easy enough for him to do. But we think that it's all been dealt with because of the cross, hasn't it? [5:07] Revelation 12, 11. Of course, these verses apply to a particular group of people. But I think we could take heart in the same sentiment that they have, the same rejoicing that they have. [5:18] We can have that same rejoicing. It says, Revelation 12, 11. And they overcame Him, it says, by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. And they loved not their lives unto the death. [5:30] So it talks here about a great victory, a great overcoming, a conquering. And it's the blood of Christ that gives us such a victory. It empowers us. Think of it. We can't affect a victory by our own effort or undertaking. [5:45] It's the blood that makes it possible. And it's the blood of Christ that empowers us and gives us that true victory to overcome the enemy. And it's a day-by-day thing. That overcoming victory is ours day-by-day, moment-by-moment. [6:02] Think of it, brother, sister, today, that the blood of the Lamb is for you. He shed it for you. He shed it deliberately for you. And his blood, it says, can make all of Satan's accusations and attacks powerless. [6:15] It says they overcame him. We've got overcoming power. Not by our own strength, but by his power. His power. The power of the blood. So think of it, what Christ has done for you. [6:27] Think of that love that he so freely showed and displayed it in so fulsome a way that his very precious blood was poured out for you. Given for you. [6:38] Deliberately for you. And we can know victory. Think of it. Over every scheme of the enemy. Over every attack that we've got to confront. Over every opposition of the evil one. [6:49] We can stand firm in that victory. And we can have that same rejoicing as these saints in Revelation 12. That we've got victory. We overcome the adversary by the power of the blood of the Lamb. [7:00] Amen. And the next one is that the blood of Christ makes possible a new covenant with God. This new agreement. This new testament. This new testament. [7:13] In his blood, he says. He says, as he took the cup. He said, this cup is the new testament in my blood. Which is shared for you. Think of it. This new covenant. [7:23] It's by the blood. Not by the blood of bulls and of goats. Which were only a sign of the blood to come. But this blood is effectual. This blood makes possible that new covenant. [7:36] That new agreement. That new relationship between God and man. And it's by the blood. The blood of Christ. That makes this new covenant possible. For you and me. To have that relationship with God. [7:47] To have that reconciliation with God. And we're made to be God's people. It says, here's our God. Here's our God. It's through the blood of Christ. That he makes it so. [7:58] That we have that direct access to the Father. By the blood. And we're made heirs of his promise. God's promises. They're sure. And they're steadfast. [8:09] And it's by his great love. That we have that covenant relationship. With our God. That very special relationship. That closeness. That intimacy. That we become children of God. [8:22] And the last one. That we'd like to note today. Is that his blood. Makes us. Able to serve the living God. His blood fits us to serve. [8:33] It inspires us to serve him. It reads Hebrews 9.14. As we read before. How much more shall the blood of Christ. Who through the eternal spirit. Offered himself without spot to God. [8:45] Purge your conscience from dead works. To serve the living God. Think of that. Brother sister today. That the blood of Christ. Is what can purge. [8:56] In other words. Cleanse your conscience. And you can have a conscience. That's cleared. From dead works. You know. Sometimes we see people. As one of the men. [9:07] We were talking with yesterday. It sounded like he was. A little confused. Well. Quite confused. Really. About salvation. And he was saying. Well I try to live righteous. And I'm feeling like. [9:18] I'm not at the moment. You know. Like he. He was making it about his works. He was. In a sense. He was actually making it. That his salvation. Was his works. He was getting the cart. [9:29] Before the horse. Really. And. But we were able to. Share with him. As. Our brother. Was able to witness. Further to him. To give him that assurance. That. It's not of works. [9:39] Of righteousness. That we have done. It's not of works. Lest any man should boast. It's. It's by grace. Through faith. That we saved. And really. Any works. Of our own effort. And our own. [9:50] Undertaking. Are really. In effect. Dead works. They don't really. Achieve anything. But. That living work. Is to trust. The one who's. Given us. That finished work. [10:00] Of the cross. When he says. It is finished. Everything was done. To save you. And so. He purges our conscience. Even from the dead works. Even though there might be good works. There's still dead works. If they're not. [10:10] By faith. If it's not. A trust in Christ. As your living saviour. And so. We can have that. Sense where. All of our righteousnesses. Which are as filthy rags. Can be cleansed. [10:21] And we're not trusting. In those works. We're trusting. In the living God. We're trusting. In the saviour. Who saves us. By faith. And so. This is the ultimate purpose. Of the blood of Christ. That he would transform us. [10:32] Into vessels of honour. That we would become. His very. Children. By faith. That we've become. Servants of God. It's. Such that. That cleansing. [10:42] Makes us fit to serve. We think. Of the old covenant. Priest. That they had to. Wash at the laver. That would. Affect a physical cleansing. But it's a picture. [10:53] Of the spiritual cleansing. That we need. And really. We can't have a conscience. That's. Right with God. Unless we trust. The saviour. That it's. By our faith. In the blood of Christ. [11:04] Not in our own working. That we can. Be truly cleansed. A heart deep cleansing. A conscience deep cleansing. And so. Then he makes us ready. To serve the living God. [11:15] And what a joy it is. As believers. To. To know him. To love him. To be his. And he sets us free. From all guilt. He helps us live. With a pure heart. And he does this transforming work. [11:28] In every heart. That trusts him. And the blood of Christ. Friends today. I urge you. If you've yet to trust him. That you trust in the blood of Christ. Is shed for you. That you trust that. That work is still. [11:39] Effectual in you. That that. Effect of the blood. Is still. True for you. It can be. Realised by you. By faith. That it's powerful. The effect of the blood. [11:50] It's life changing. When we actually realise. The blood was shed for me. He shed his blood for me. And it. Helps us to think. How can I. Love him more. How can I. Know him more. [12:00] How can. My life be. A poured out. Living sacrifice. That I would give myself. Wholeheartedly. And passionately. In every aspect of my life. To be that. Living sacrifice. [12:11] To be that one. Now that I'm ransomed. And cleansed. I want to. Be. Effectual for his service. And. It's by his blood. That he redeems us. He purifies our hearts. [12:22] He gives. Us victory. He brings us into that covenant. That new relationship. With God. And he enables us. To serve him. What a wonder. What a joy. What a privilege. [12:33] To know. To know him. And the blood of Jesus. It's really. It's not just a symbol. For us. But it's a dynamic reality. That we can know. It's real for us. There's virtue. [12:44] By the blood. There's virtue. In the blood. That. There's. Agency. In the blood. There's God's power. In the blood. And he transforms. Those who trust him. From the inside out. [12:55] So. Let's be reminded again. Of the virtue. Of his precious blood. Of the power of it. And realize it. In our own lives today. To know.
