Many people view prayer as a kind of emergency SOS that we send out to God to help when we are in trouble. But the bible teaches otherwise. This morning, as we conclude our three-part sermon series on prayer, we will seek to learn prayer lessons from the apostle James. As he was concluding his letter, James addresses the topic of prayer and helps us to see that we are to pray in all of life’s seasons. This is perhaps one of the most important lessons to learn if we will be people of prayer. Let’s open our hearts to learn some prayer lessons from James.

2nd Message of a Three-Part Series on Prayer

This morning we are continuing with part 2 of our sermon series on prayer. Last week, we sought to learn to prayer from Jesus by considering the Lord’s Prayer. However, the Lord’s prayer is a general prayer and one of the many prayers that we can pray. It is not always appropriate or best to pray the Lord’s prayer. How should we pray for people in general and for fellow believers in particular, especially bearing in mind the myriad of circumstances they might be facing? Learning from the apostle Paul and his prayer for the saints in 2 Thessalonians 1:3-12, this morning’s sermon seeks to answer this question.

1st Message of a Three-Part Series on Prayer

While prayer itself is not difficult, many Christians find it difficult to pray. Perhaps the main reason is that even though prayer is not difficult, many Christians just never learned to pray. This morning, we are beginning a 3-part sermon series on prayer. We will be seeking to learn to pray from our Lord Jesus Christ, the apostle Paul, and the apostle James. In today’s sermon, we will be learning from the words of Jesus spoken in response to this request from one of his disciples: “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”
