[2:17] And I was wondering why on earth he did that. Because usually he would keep the pressure upon us to do the work. But he went inside and was to watch the jubilee, the silver jubilee of the Queen.

[2:30] And I remember saying to him, what's more important in my young, juvenile self? What's more important, building a house or just watching this?

[2:41] And he wisely said, this is probably the only jubilee I will see. I won't be here for the next one. And he was so right, you see.

[2:53] You know, he had the discernment to measure, to number his own days. And to apply his heart to wisdom at that level. He didn't see another jubilee.

[3:06] So it was right to see that day as a special day. In fact, it's very foolish if we try to live our lives as if there are not special days.

[3:18] The Lord is so good to us. He even gives us seasons in our year to ensure that we don't think of every day as the same.

[3:30] There are days and months which are filled with sunshine and others where you expect the storms. That's just what happens. I'm so thankful for my own heart to my Lord for giving us summer and winter.

[3:48] Which we then break down our shelves into four seasons. When we think of the spring and the summer and the autumn and the winter.

[4:01] There we are recognising different portions of the year. And it's good. It kind of brings something that just reminds us things are not always the same.

[4:15] It's the same with the hours and the day. You have a morning. You have a midday. You have a late afternoon. And you have an evening.

[4:27] And that in many ways is good too. Not every hour in our day is the same. And it's true in our lives as well. True in our lives that every day is not the same.

[4:41] When you think of the whole of your life. When you're young you're full of steel. And you have all this incredible nimbleness and energy.

[4:52] You're able to do things that are so easy. And you can't possibly contemplate. But one day it would be difficult to bend down and tie your shoes.

[5:05] Never think that it would be difficult to stand up and sing a psalm. Never be difficult to look at a signpost and see what is inscribed there.

[5:17] But a season comes all too quickly when these are the ways they are. Things you couldn't do that you could do before.

[5:29] If you read Ecclesiastes chapter 12. You find there the wise man saying remember your creator in the days of your youth. Why?

[5:41] Because evil days come. What happens? There are times when you can't hear the grasshopper. Your hearing goes. You can't see out through the eyes the way you used to.

[5:55] Everything seems to fade. Life changes. It's really wise to make use of your youth. Because when evil days and older days come.

[6:10] Things become so much more difficult. There are many people out in the world around you who would say to you. There's no special day for God coming.

[6:24] They may well think that the church is on a loose earth. The church is on a downer. The church is on the way out. As I was saying in my own prayer.

[6:36] How many buildings. Where people used to gather to worship. Are now either barns or nightclubs or flats. On the mainland by the hundreds.

[6:49] And people sometimes in the community think it's actually a great thing. If they find a new use for a church. As simply a community hall.

[7:01] Well that's okay. But the sad thing is. That the Lord is not worshipping these areas. For some.

[7:12] That's a good thing. And you go and tell them. A day is coming though. When the Lord Jesus is going to come back. And they'll say to you. Really?

[7:24] Where is the promise of his coming? There's no sign of it. Everything goes on the way it was. That's exactly what the people were saying.

[7:36] In 2nd Peter here. They will say. Where is the promise of his coming? Ever since the fathers fell asleep. All things are continuing as they were.

[7:47] From the beginning of the creation. Nothing has really changed. Do you know how silly that is? How silly it is to say. Nothing has ever changed.
