[2:54] Thank you. [3:24] Hear these words from Psalms 121. I lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? The Lord will watch over your life. [4:07] The Lord will watch over your coming and your going, both now and forevermore. Shall we say amen to that? Amen. Amen. Well, welcome everyone. [4:19] We're going to sing in a moment the greatest day in history. The greatest day, and it do come up, the musicians. The greatest day in history, of course, was when Jesus rose again from the dead. [4:31] And we look back and see that great deliverance. Even death could not hold our God. Even death could not hold our God. Shall we pray as we prepare to worship? Perhaps you could stand as we pray. [4:43] Father, we stand in your presence. Father, we stand in your presence. Father, we stand in your presence, the maker of heaven and earth, the one who watches over us. [4:57] Thank you that you watch over us and you see us. You see everything. You know everything. And Father, we do give you thanks that we can look back and see that greatest day, that first Easter, Easter Sabbath, where you rose from the dead. [5:20] Thank you, Lord, that not even death can separate us from your great love. Hallelujah. Amen. Amen. Shall we worship God as we sing this beautiful song? [5:31] The greatest day in history. [5:52] Death is beaten, you have rescued me. Sing it out, Jesus is alive. The empty cross, the empty grave. [6:07] Life eternal, you have won the day. Shout it out, Jesus is alive. He's alive. [6:18] And oh, happy day, happy day. Happy day, you wash my sin away. [6:29] Oh, happy day, happy day. I'll never be the same. Wherefore, I am changed. [6:45] When I stand in that place, free at last, meeting face to face. [6:58] I am yours. I am yours. I am yours. Jesus, you are mine. Endless joy, perfect peace. [7:10] Earthly pain finally will cease. Celebrate. Jesus is alive. Jesus is alive. Jesus is alive. Jesus is alive. Jesus is alive. He's alive. [7:21] And oh, happy day, happy day. You wash my sin away. Oh, happy day, happy day. [7:35] I'll never be the same. Forever, I am changed. [7:48] Oh, what a glorious day. What a glorious day. [8:02] That you have saved me. And oh, what a glorious day. What a glorious day. [8:16] That you have saved me. And oh, happy day. Happy day, happy day. [8:27] You wash my sin away. Oh, happy day, happy day. I'll never be the same. [8:39] Wherever I am changed. I'll never be the same. [8:52] Wonderful. Do take a seat. And I hope you have joy in your heart as you think about Jesus' resurrection from the dead. [9:04] And Christians throughout history have always said, you know, why have we got hope? Because Jesus is risen. And this is something we should encourage one another with, particularly after several weeks of laying our dear loved ones to rest. [9:21] Many of our members have passed away over the last few weeks. And we do lovingly commend all those who continue to grieve. But we give thanks as those who have hope. [9:32] Well, a few years ago, it seems a few years ago now, lockdown occurred. And during lockdown, we produced some videos. And I've been looking back through the backlog of videos. [9:45] And there's one that I thought we would have to show in the absence of the Wingfields. And it's one that is a sort of Miriam and Children version of the storm. [9:56] And what I want you to notice is that the people, Paul and his disciples and other followers, were on a boat. A storm occurred. [10:07] And it looked like they were going to die. And through God's power, they were delivered. And not only delivered, but they were then able to eat some jelly and all sorts. [10:18] Anyway, you'll see it on the video. So sit back and enjoy this. I think we might need the sound relatively loud if possible. Paul was a prisoner on a ship carrying grain to Italy. [10:30] The ship got caught in a huge storm off the coast of Cyprus. First, some clouds appeared. Then it started raining. [10:52] There was a strong wind which made the sea rough. There were hail stones. [11:05] And even snow. The sailors threw the cargo overboard to save weight. [11:26] Eventually, they threw all the grain over too. [11:40] The ship got grounded on a sandbar and all on board jumped into the water. [11:55] The waves were so strong that the ship was destroyed. Amazingly, Paul and all the others floated or swam to the shore and they all survived. [12:29] Can we eat it now? Go on then. Mmm! Oh, this jelly is good. [12:44] It was worth seeing again, wasn't it? How many of you saw that before? Not many. Oh, well, it's definitely worth seeing it again. So, fantastic. [12:55] That God delivered Paul and the other people on the ship in surprising circumstances. And by his power, by his wisdom, they were delivered. [13:07] I'm going to sing again and we're going to remember the way in which God has heard the prayers of his people and delivered them and made a way where there seemed to be no way down through the centuries of biblical history. [13:19] And so, I think Judy is to my left because she is going to guide you in actions. Now, I wouldn't want to sort of knock people up in the gallery, but I have noticed there's a little bit more participation down here than up there. [13:32] So, a little bit of a competition. See if you can go for it with the actions upstairs and downstairs. So, let's worship God all through history. God has been faithful. Shall we stand? Staying. [13:43] Noah built the most enormous boat that kept the birds and animals a boat. [14:06] The Lord was good. The Lord was strong. The Lord was strong. And Noah lived his life for him. Moses led his people through the sea. [14:21] Taking them away from slavery. The Lord was good. The Lord was strong. And Moses lived his life for him. [14:33] Oh, thank you. Oh, thank you. Oh, thank you. That all through history you were faithful. Thank you. Oh, thank you. [14:45] And you are just the same when it comes to me. When it comes to me. [14:56] David fought Goliath and he won. Whoa. The humble shepherd boy became the king. The Lord was good. The Lord was strong. And David lived his life for him. Daniel was inside the lion's den. But God brought him to safety once again. [15:12] The Lord was good. The Lord was strong. And Daniel lived his life for him. Oh, thank you. Oh, thank you. Oh, thank you. Oh, thank you. [15:24] That all through history you were faithful. Oh, thank you. And Daniel lived his life for him. Oh, thank you, oh, thank you, That all through history you were faithful. [15:44] Thank you, oh, thank you, That you are just the same when it comes to me. When it comes to me. [16:01] Jesus died to take away our sin, So we could get to know our God again. The Lord is good, the Lord is strong, And we will live our lives for him. [16:21] Oh, thank you, oh, thank you, That all through history you were faithful. Oh, thank you, oh, thank you, That you are just the same when it comes to me. [16:39] When it comes to me. Oh, thank you, oh, thank you. Oh, thank you. [16:56] Oh, thank you, oh, thank you, oh, thank you. [17:10] Oh, thank you. Oh, thank you. Yes. Yeah. Judy wanted to point out that the upstairs did very well. So well done. Do take a seat. And this is a special Sunday. [17:24] Every Sunday is a special Sunday. I could mention it being special for lots of different reasons. But one reason why it is special is this, In fact, will be the last Sunday for a little while For us to be worshipping in this space. [17:38] This will be the last Sunday. And then next Sunday, We will be up in the Memorial Hall at the back Together to worship God there. So that's the big notice. [17:49] Not often ministers tell you that And probably will be out of here for about a year, Something like that. But to tell us more details of this, We have our property deacon. And I'd like you to give a nice welcome to Stephen Weston. [18:09] Saturday at 10. As Malcolm's just said, This is the last Sunday here in this room, In this current configuration, Before we start our Living Stones project. [18:22] And from next Sunday, And probably well into next year, As Malcolm said, We'll be meeting in the top hall, The Memorial Hall. So, Between this Sunday, And next Sunday, We need to set up the hall, And move any of the equipment we need, To run a service, Including the sound desk, The projection and the live stream desks, The music group items, Thankfully not the piano. [18:50] But all needs to be moved, And set up upstairs. If you can help, To move these things, And set the hall up, During this week, Daytime or evening, Please let Roger, Pantridge, Or myself know, And we'll put you on the list, And we'll contact you, As to when to come in. [19:13] We already have, Volunteer groups, Tomorrow, And Tuesday daytimes, So if you'd like to come down, And join one of those, You'll be most welcome. [19:25] Before the builders move in, We have a total of three weeks, To clear this room, The three rooms behind me here, And the two rooms behind, Sound like an aircraft person, And the two rooms behind, The gallery area, Including dismantling, All the pews down here, And removing all the carpets, In here and in the room there. [19:55] Saturday at 10, Next Saturday, The 19th, We need as many volunteers, As we can get, To clear these rooms, And either move the items, To their new temporary homes, Around the building, Or to put them in the skip, Which we will have, On that day, And that day only. [20:18] Saturday at 10, We especially need people, Who are physically fit, And able to move, Some of the heavier items, But there will be a suitable job, For everyone who comes, If you can't make it at 10, Then come when you can, And leave when you must, And leave when you must, The men are also invited, To the men's prayer breakfast, Which starts at 8 o'clock, Please let us know, If you want to join that, If you don't normally come to that, In the meantime, There's some things, There's some things, You can help us, To dispose of, Either, By taking them away, With you today, Or letting us know, That you want them, And we can put them aside, For you, And make sure, They don't get disposed of, And they are, There's four things, In the vestry here, This room, Behind the piano, There's a selection, Of flower vases, And other containers, [21:19] For flowers, And bits of oasis block, And all sorts of other bits, If you want any of those, Have a look, And take whatever you wish, Also in the vestry, There's a small music keyboard, Which we don't need anymore, And that can be taken, So if there's someone, That needs a keyboard at home, Someone maybe learning piano, Or something, That's there, But only the first person, To get it, Can have it, Because only one, Don't take, Don't take the big long keyboard, Because we need that, And also take home, Any personal items, That you normally leave here, Maybe you've got your own cushion, Or something, Take that with you, You can take any of the other pew cushions, If you've got to use them at home, And finally, The choir seats, Which are up on the balcony here, They'll no longer be needed, [22:21] So if you want any of those, And there's about 40 of them, But if you want any of them, Do take them this morning, Or let us know, Otherwise we'll have to try, And find another place, To take them, But be aware, That there's no fire resistance, Label on the chairs, So we're not allowed, To sell them by law, But if you want any, Or you know anyone that wants any, Let us know, So when is the skip working day party? [22:57] See you there, And just to say, That obviously, During a time like this, Where we've got lots of change, Let us be particularly forbearing, Of one another, Loving one another, Encouraging one another, And if you identify something, That's not going quite, As you think it should do, Think how can I say this, In the most lovely way, So that my dear friend, Lynn and Stephen, And Roger are encouraged, And not discouraged, If that makes sense, So do remember that, Let's pray shall we, Both for giving thanks to God, For this lovely space, In its current form, And for all that's planned, In this place in the future, And also to pray for our children, And young people, Just before they go out, Let's pray shall we, So loving father, We do praise you, For this lovely chapel space, Where we have worshipped you, [23:58] We commit the clearance, And the building work, That is to come, Into your care, And keeping, And we pray Lord, For safety, For all those involved, In clearing, All those involved, In renovating, And building, We ask you Lord, To bless, Living stones, And we pray, For our children, And young people, A sign of all that you want to do, With us, And through us, In future generations, We pray for them now, As they go to their groups, Teach them wonderful things, About you Lord Jesus, Amen, Amen, And so do, Feel free to go now, Children and young people, And whilst they're going, Once the hubbub's gone down, We're just going to watch, Our video, Telling us about life groups, That will start in September, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, [25:26] Through the last few years, We've been discerning God's heart, For this church, And this has led to our vision, To see High Wycombe, Transformed by God, Through his loving, Serving, And worshipping church, In order to do this, We need to fulfill our mission, Which is to be a community, Of Christians, Who love God, Follow Jesus, And share the hope, We have with him, Encouraging each other, to grow as disciples of Christ will enable us to go out into our community full of the Holy Spirit, supported by our brothers and sisters to do our part in what God is doing here to transform High Wiccan. Paul writes so richly about discipleship to many of the early Christian churches. In his letter to the Ephesians he states that the goal is that we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Paul continues saying we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head into Christ from whom the whole body joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped when each part is working properly makes that body grow so that it builds itself up in love. We grow not individually but together as the body of Christ in community with each other. We clearly need each other in order to grow as disciples of Christ. So community is central to achieving our mission at Union Baptist Church. An important part of building community has been done in our home groups where people have grown in faith and been supported to live a Christian life. Now God is calling us to renew and re-energize our small groups by creating new groups called life groups. In life groups we'll encourage each other to live in faith every day as we do life together. In other words the purpose of life groups is to intentionally walk together as disciples and to encourage each other to grow in maturity through trusting and obeying Jesus Christ. We'll do this by helping each other enter into, understand, and apply God's word to our lives. It's only by growing as disciples that we can go out on our front lines and make disciples in the hope of transforming High Wycombe. We now like to share the short animation which captures the benefits of joining a life group. [28:04] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. [28:39] Thank you. [29:09] Thank you. [29:39] Thank you. We want everyone at our church to do life together, to connect together, to encourage each other, to support each other, to build each other up, and to grow together. [29:53] This video showed how you will benefit from committing to be part of a life group, but that's only part of the story. Your life group needs you. Even more important than how life groups can benefit us individually, joining a group is an act of service, and maybe even your greatest act of service for the church. [30:15] In a life group, God will work through you using your unique gifts to help and encourage others to know, to love, to trust, and to obey God more. [30:28] With each other's help, we will become disciples who make disciples. And this has always been Christ's call to those who follow him. Jesus said, We hope that you will join a life group as part of our call to fulfill the Great Commission. [31:03] With the help of the Holy Spirit and in our life group community, we can encourage each other to become more Christ-like. Then we can go out onto our front lines as disciples who make disciples and see our community transformed by God through his loving, serving, and worshiping church. [31:24] Thank you. [31:54] Thank you. [32:24] Thank you. [32:54] Thank you. [33:24] Thank you. Thank you. [33:54] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. [34:05] Christ the Lion awake What a glorious dawn Fear of death is gone For we carry his life in our veins Jesus, to you we lift our eyes Jesus, our glory and our prize We adore you, behold you Our Saviour ever true Oh Jesus, we turn our eyes to you Turn your eyes to the heavens Our King will return for his all Every knee will bow Every tongue will shout [35:08] All glory to Jesus alone Jesus, you Jesus, to you we lift our eyes to you Jesus, to you we lift our eyes to you Jesus, to you we lift our eyes to you [36:12] Yes we do Lord, we turn our eyes to you So often we look in other directions But today, at this time we turn to you And we pray that you would fill our minds with good things Good things from your word Good things from your spirit Amen Amen Amen Do take a seat and Mike's going to come and lead us in our prayers Good morning What a privilege to be able to come to God With our prayers of intercession We come before God this morning In the name of Jesus We acknowledge that Jesus is at the right hand of the Father And he brings our prayers before God As he intercedes for us We're thankful that the Holy Spirit interprets our prayers And presents them in line with God's will [37:14] And we ask for that this morning Dear Heavenly Father A big prayer we pray for Our world We intercede for those who are lost And do not have hope for the future Those who are lost spiritually Those who have not heard of the hope That is available to them in Jesus Christ And even to those who have rejected him Father God We ask Lord for your Holy Spirit To work in our world It doesn't look so dim When we look around And we listen to the news Even when we look into your eyes Lord We see a lot of hurt We do pray for those Who are physically struggling With health Or financial Emotional Or family situations That they find hard to cope with [38:16] At this time Lord we intercede for each one of these These are very general prayers Lord we're not naming specific people But we each know people who are struggling In these ways Lord And we want to bring them to you We pray for those who have lost loved ones recently Through different situations In the world Whether it's through war Drought Floods Fire I know last week I said it would be nice To be sent to Hawaii But having looked at the news Lord I'm glad you didn't send me To Hawaii But we do pray for those there Who have lost their lives Their loved ones Their possessions But we pray that through those Situations People will be turning to you We think of the crimes That are going on Accidents So many situations Lord [39:18] It's hard sometimes to think Whether you really do have control But your word tells us Lord That nothing happens Without you knowing about it And we pray Father For those who love you in these areas To serve you And faithfully witness for you We pray for missionaries Lord Who are bringing the word of God To those who don't know you We want to thank you for those who We've been supporting recently We thank you Father For the missionary prayer team That continues to bring news And to pray for missionaries And we bring before you also Our own Chris Manctelo Lord You know how he may be feeling Even with a lot of people there A bit alone And we thank you for the blessings That you're sharing through him And to him We pray for so many charities [40:19] Providing medical care Providing food And providing water Lord We thank you for those And we bring them to you Through their struggles In trying to work Perhaps with governments To bring these things to bear We pray for peacemakers And we intercede for them Where they find it difficult Where it's hard Bringing different opposing factions Together for peace Father we pray for our police Who are struggling I know in Wickham They're so short staffed We pray Father for them For firefighters For doctors For nurses For care workers For social carers So many others We intercede for them Lord And we thank you for them We pray for our government And the decisions That they have to make About so many issues Including how to treat Asylum seekers Oh Father Have mercy Have mercy And give them wisdom [41:20] We know the finances Are short But we seem to waste money On so many other things Lord Help us to have the wisdom To serve you with it We pray for your church In our town Help us to be The transforming influence That you've called us to be In our front lines Wherever that might be We pray for your church Leadership here Lord And the changes That you've planned for us In the year ahead We commit the Living Stones Project to you That it will bring honour To your name We pray for the fabric And administrative teams As they make ready For Beaks The builders To start their work In September May they see more Than a building When they come here Lord May they find you too We ask for your love And your wisdom To be given To each one of us [42:21] As we serve you together here At Union Baptist Church And we ask for forgiveness For our contribution In spoiling your world But give us thanks But give you thanks For your grace And mercy Towards each one of us We ask all these things In Jesus name Amen The reading this morning Is Psalm 124 Which is on page 623 In the Pew Bibles If the Lord Had not been on our side Let Israel say If the Lord Had not been on our side When people attacked us They would have [43:21] Swallowed us alive When their anger Flared against us The flood Would have engulfed us The torrent Would have swept over us The raging waters Would have swept us away Praise be to the Lord Who has not let us Be torn by their teeth We have escaped Like a bird From the fowler's snare The snare has been broken And we have escaped Our help Is in the name of the Lord The maker Of heaven and earth Thanks very much Ed And we're continuing In our summer In the book of Psalms And this particular Psalm Is part of that section Of the book of Psalms Which is the Psalm Of Ascent Where the people of Israel Are going up Perhaps three times a year To Jerusalem To worship For special festivals And so as we read [44:22] This Psalm We want to imagine A great company of people Travelling up to Jerusalem Perhaps at times It would have been dangerous As they went But they didn't just go They repeatedly Would have been saying And singing These Psalms That have been written This one is written By King David himself And so we're going to reflect that As we think about This Psalm together Let's pray And ask God To reveal Wonderful things From his word Father we want to thank you That you give us Songs to sing Songs to sing When we can worship you Songs to sing When we're going through Times of deep trouble And we want to thank you For David King David A man after your own heart Inspired and filled With your spirit And we pray That this Psalm Will be our Psalm Today This Psalm That Jesus Would have read And sung Would it be our Psalm [45:24] In Christ Today Holy Spirit Apply your word To our hearts And our lives Quicken us We pray In Jesus name Well I don't know As you heard that Psalm Did you feel it was a Psalm That you could Say yourself Or do you feel it was Oh gosh It's a bit A bit over the top You know Praise the Lord Who has not let us Be torn by their teeth I mean I don't know Whether that's your experience You may look at it And say Well it's a bit tricky To sing this As my own Psalm You'll remember That I shared with you Some keys To unpacking The Psalms And for them To become Your own As you As you read them And that is That we To understand Who wrote them Originally So David wrote this Psalm King David So we have to understand The Psalm First of all Through his lips And his life So we'll do a bit of that And then we need to If we're going to really Take these Psalms For our own We need to understand [46:24] That Jesus Would have said And sung these Psalms And not only that But he actually Lived them out In very specific ways And we can say These Psalms In Christ As believers of his These become Our Psalms As we say Them either true For Christ In us Or true In our own Personal experience So I pray That this Psalm Will be one That you say Heartily As you remember David As you remember Jesus And as you Join with Jesus In saying This Psalm So David So David writes The Psalm To fellow pilgrims On a journey Of faith He writes This Psalm For the Israelites He writes This Psalm For you And for me Under the inspiration Of the Spirit It would have been Sung probably And we've done Lots of singing This morning And we will continue To sing After this Sermon And we join As we read This Psalm With that longing To remember What God has done [47:25] In his acts Of deliverance Of God's people In the past That's what David Is talking About here And yet Also We sing This Psalm And say this Psalm Longing for the Deliverance Which is to come As well So we know In part God's deliverance We can see How it's been Worked out In David In Jesus But also We look to Our coming King Jesus As he comes The second Time In Psalm 24 David writes About the Dangers That he has Gone through And the Deliverances That he has Experienced Now I want you Just to imagine For a moment That a lion Is coming Towards you Not one That has a Glass In the zoo That is going To protect you But a lion Literally Is coming At you And then God Delivers you From that Lion Would that Be good Would that Maybe get You to Say praise [48:26] The lord I didn't Die Well David Has a Catalog Of disasters That nearly Took his Life And so He doesn't Just kind Of go Oh Psalm 124 If the lord Hadn't been On our side Let it He doesn't Say it like That He's He's like If Anyway You get The kind Of idea I'll Get into It So let's First of all Look at Verses 1 to 5 And I Want you To With David Marvel At what God Has done Okay So David Talks In these Verses About The way In which You know He talks About The anger Flared The flood Came The raging Waters Can you see These are all Life threatening Aspects Of That he needed Deliverance From But let me Sort of Paint Some of the Deliverances That David Experienced In his Life So first Of all The lion And the Bear Do you Remember When he Was a Shepherd He Thought Them Off And [49:26] Killed Them And The sheep Or were Safe Because David Did That Isn't That Amazing God Gave Him Strength And Skill To be Able To do That I Wouldn't Count My Chances Very Good With A bear Or A lion I Know A number Of You Have Been To Canada And I Was Like I Always Feel A bit Nervous About The bears But That's Just Me He Heroically Of course Defeated Goliath That Great Guy He Was About Ten Foot Tall A bit Strange In His Size And David With Just A few Pebbles Whack Managed To Kill Goliath And Bring Him Down And He Didn't Just Come At Him With His Pebbles He Said I Come At You Goliath In The Name Of The Lord He Knew That God Was With Him And Gave Him Deliverance It Gets Worse Though Because David Was A great Servant Of King Saul As You May Remember But King Saul After David Was Anointed As King He Was Going To Be The Successor For [50:26] King Saul King Saul Was Angry Against David And Saw Him Wanted To See Him Dead And So David Had To Run For His Life Can You Imagine If All The Ways Of Government Every Aspect Every Department In Government Were Aimed At Killing You That's What It Was Like Saul Was Out To Get David And Sometimes He Thought His Life Was Going To Be Taken But The Lord Delivered Him How Fantastic It Makes You Want To Say Praise The Lord Doesn't It If You're David Well That's What The Psalm Is About You Get The Kind Of Idea But It Gets Worse For David Of Course Absalom His Son Can Realize I Quite Like This Power Thing Dad Had Rather Too Much Power I Think And I Would Rather Like To Take The Throne And So He Works Against His Own Dad And Tries To Take The Throne Turning The People Of Israel Against David And So David Had To Fear His Own Son Can You Imagine That Can You Imagine If Your Own Child Was [51:26] Trying To Take Your Life That Would Be Awful Wouldn't It And God Delivered Him Thankfully From Absalom Although Absalom In Turn Died Which Was Of Tragic But This Is The Psalm That David Is Saying And Singing Because God Has Delivered Him Do You See What's Happening And As The People Of God When We Say Psalms We Join With Those Who Gone Before Us Saying Them With Them If That Makes Sense So When You Say This Psalm You My [52:31] Strength My Own Strength That I Won The Victory Over These Ones That Came Against Me No Every Time He Said It Was The Lord The Lord Delivered Me The Lord Delivered Me Instead He Repeatedly Marvels At What God Has Done I Wonder If You Looking Back On Your Own Life And You See Things That You've Gone Through Times You've Been Through And You Wonder How On Earth You're Still Standing I Remember Have You Had Those Kind Of Situations In A Car Where You're Driving Along And Then Something Happens And You Go They Should Have Hit Me Anybody Had This Or Is Just Me And You Kind Of Go Did I Have Half A Car During That Last Maybe I'm Just Strange Maybe My Eyesight Is Not Very Good You're All Looking At Me Like He's I [53:32] Don't Know That May Be A Minor Thing You Say Just Drive Better Malcolm I'm Sure That Would Be True My Wife Would Agree With You Actually On That But There We Go And Then Paul Says And Perhaps Sums Up What I Think David Had Discovered He Says What Then Shall We Say In Response To All This Stuff That Has Been Happening In Our Lives If God Is For Us Can You Help Me Who Can Be Against Us That's What He's Discovered He Can Have The Whole Of The Of Saul's Powerful King You Know Organization An Army Against Him And Yet David Still Survives He Can Have A Lion And A Bear Against Him And Yet He Survives Of Course The Greatest Deliverance That I'm Sure David Would Be Thinking Of As He Wrote This Part The Old Testament The Exodus And In The Exodus The People Of Israel [54:32] Were Enslaved In Egypt And Pharaoh Was A Very Oppressive Pharaoh In Egypt And He Was Getting Everything Out Of The People Of Israel They Were Having An Awful Time And The Book Of Exodus Catalogues The Numerous Ways In Which The People Of God Are Delivered You Remember Eventually After Many Plagues Trying To Force Pharaoh To Let The People Go And Worship God Eventually The Final Plague Comes And The First Born In Every Household Dies And Suddenly It Gets To The Heart Of Pharaoh And He Says Okay Just Go Just Go Just Leave This Place And So All The People Of Israel Leave And They Are Set Free To Worship God But Before Long Of Course The Armies Of Egypt Are Bearing Down On Them As They Come To The Red Sea And They Feel Like They're Like A Bird Caught There Between The Army And The Sea It's [55:32] Like They're Trapped And You'll See Some Of That Narrative In The Psalm Which We'll Come To In A Moment And Then God Opens A Path Through That Sea And Saves Those People A Bit Like The Door Of The Cage Has Been Opened And They Set Free And The Remarkable Thing Is They Thought They Were Trapped They Thought They Were Going To Die In The In The Waters And Eventually They're Set Free And The Armies Of Egypt Drown In The Red Sea As It Comes Back Over Where The Dry Land Has Been Unsurprisingly David At The End Of This Cataloguing Of Wonderful Deliverance Says Praise The Lord Praise The Lord I Mean Anything Less Than A Full Blood Praise The Lord Would Be Ridiculous Wouldn't It And That's What He's Doing In This Psalm Let Me Read To You Again Verses 1 To 5 So If The Lord Had Not Been On Our Side Let [56:32] Israel Say Verse 2 If The Lord Had Not Been On Our Side When People Attack Us And Of Course He Was Verse Keep Going It's Like So Bad I Can't Even See The Three They Would Have Swallowed Us Up Alive When Their Anger Flared Against Us The Flood Would Have Engulfed Us The Torrent Would Have Swept Over Us The Raging Waters Would Have Swept Us Away That Is The Context That David Offers Praise And Worship How Wonderful So The Second Part Of The Psalm This Marvelling At The Deliverance Of God Looks At Then Praising God Let's Have A Look At Verses Six To Eight And Again We'll Read Those Sorry Keeping You Working Hard Aren't I Andrew Praise Be To The Lord Who Has Not Let Us Be Torn By Their Teeth Which Teeth [57:32] Might Be Thinking About The Bear The Lion Maybe Saul I Don't Know We Have Escaped The Bird From The Fowler's Snare The Snare Has Been Broken And We Have Escaped What Might You Be Thinking About I Kind of Gave That One Away Perhaps You Feel It Would Be Not Cool To The Red Sea Thinking Back To What Has Happened To The People Of Israel Our Help Is In The Name Of The Lord The Maker Of Heaven And Earth What Might He Be Thinking Of When He Said Those Words Against I Come At You In The Name Of The Lord With Goliath Do You Get The Kind Of Idea I Think He's Got Things On His Mind When He Is Praising The Lord I Hope We've Got Things On Our Mind When We Praise The Lord Too C.S. [58:26] Lewis Says This About Speaking About The Psalms And The Value He Placed On The Psalms He Said The Psalms Have Helped Him To Express Delight In God That Even Prompted David To Dance Wow Wouldn't It Be Amazing If After This Morning Service You Go Home And You Go Psalm 124 I'm Going To Dance Before The Lord For His Deliverance Wouldn't That Be Great To Do That Whereas What Often We Do We Kind Of Do You Know I Mean It Would Be Better For Us Wouldn't It Do You Think I Don't Know Get The Idea Few Of You Are Going To Do This If You Send Videos In That Would Be Amazing So If You Can't Find Your Own Voice To Praise The Lord The Psalms Offer You A Voice They Offer You The Voice Of David They [59:27] Offer You The Voice Of Jesus And As You Enter Into That By The Spirit You Start To Discover That They Are On Your Lips These Psalms Are Your Psalms As You Are The New People Of God Who Are Discovering All The Ways In Which God Has Saved You And Preserved You Under All Sort Of Circumstances Let Me Just Remind You Of A Few That God Has Done As New Testament Believers Think About What God Has Done For You For A Moment In Jesus I'll Remind You Once We Were Enslaved To Sin And Then Jesus Came Dying On A Cross Once We Were Entrapped Like A Bird Compelled To Sin Sometimes We See People And They Seem That's All They Seem To Do [60:27] Is Sin I Was Hearing A Story This Morning Talking To Somebody On A Dog Walk I Wasn't In The Sauna And On This Dog Walk I Was Hearing About Somebody In Our Town Who Is On Drugs And They Had They Were Boasting About Extracting Money From A Disabled Lady And They Done That Repeatedly Over A Period Of Time And Can I Just Mention To You We Seek To Love All In This Town Wicke Home Is Connection Seek To Provide Places For People To Stay And To Keep Them In Places Of Safety But There Are People In Our Town Who Are Housed They Beg To Beg To Beg To Feed A Habit Now That Is Not To Say They Don't Need Help But That Is Do Not Give Them Cash Give [61:27] Money To Wicke Home's Connection Give Money To Those You Know Who Serving Maybe Buy Them A Cup Of Tea Or Something But Do Not Give Cash I Was Angry When I Heard About That Really Angry That And They Were Bragging To Other Folk Who Were On Drugs As Well So We Need To Stand Against This In Our Town Where Am I Why Am I Going Malcolm Please Keep Me Focused So We Are Overwhelmed As New Testament Believers We Realize We Are Overwhelmed Before We Met Christ By Selfish Desires That Was Just The Way We Were Sin Had Killed Us That Is That Going Too Far David Was Nearly Killed By A Lion And A Bear Sin Has Killed Us Did You Know That Romans Says We Were Dead In Our Trespasses And Sins But God Has Made Us Alive In Christ Sometimes We [62:27] Forget What We Have Been Delivered From We Have Been Delivered From Sin We Have Been Delivered From Spiritual Death That Sin Brings Us To And We Have Been Given A Glorious Future Paul Said This About Sin In His Life He Said Oh Wretched Man That I Am Who Will Rescue Me From This Body That Is Subject To Death Thanks Thanks Thanks be To God Who Gives Us The Victory Through Our Lord Jesus Christ Can You See He Understood The Deliverance Which Was His In Christ May We Too And How Is Our Deliverance Won It Is Won By The Lord Jesus The Maker Of Heaven And Earth And We Like David Can Look Back At How God Has Fought For Us On The Cross Through His Son We Look Back At The Death And We Look Back At The Resurrection Of Jesus And See That Death Is Not The Final Thing As We Were Celebrating In These Funerals This Week Death Is The Gateway [63:28] For The Christian To Everlasting Life Hallelujah This Is Why We Praise The Lord Now David Saw The Deliverance Of God In The Past And It Moved Him To Go Up And To Offer Praises To God If The Lord Had Been On His Side There Were No Ifs Were There For David The Lord Was On His Side How Much More Brothers And Sisters Can We Join In This Psalm We Can Say This Psalm Remembering All The Ways In Which God Has Delivered David And Many Others In The Old Testament And As New Testament Believers We Praise The Lord Because Of The Deliverance Over Sin And Death And Hell Hallelujah It Is True Man's Anger Raged Against Us Against David But He Has Not Allowed Us To Be Torn By Their Teeth [64:28] In Christ The Strong Love And Protection Of Jesus Overshadows Us Overshadows You At Times It Is Felt Like We Are Completely Overwhelmed Have You Ever Felt That Completely Overwhelmed But God Has Made A Way Of Escape In Jesus And As We Called Upon God In Prayer His Life And Love Is Stronger Than Death We Are Overwhelmed With Gratitude And Praise To Our God The Thud Came And Will Truly Come Again At The Final Judgment Day But Brothers And Sisters A Rainbow Is Over All Those Who Believe A Rainbow Of Covenant Love For Those Who Repented Of Sin And Have Believed Upon The Perfect One And Only Son Of God Jesus Christ No Wonder We Have Got In The Middle Of Our Bible 150 [65:29] Psalms Of Praise And We Need To Be Using Them More Often Than We Are This Psalm Brothers And Sisters Is Our Psalm Until We See The Lord Face To Face We Are No Longer Entrapped By The Foulest Snare We Now Know Freedom In Christ And May We Live And Walk In The Freedom Of The Children Of God We Are Going To Rise Like On Wings Like Eagles We Are Going To Rise And See The Lord In The Air For Our Help Is In The Lord The Maker Of Heaven And Earth I Feel I Should Just Read This Psalm Again In A Sense I Don't Want To Explain It Too Much I Want It To Work On Our Hearts And Mind Perhaps You Can Help Me Again We Can Go Right From The Top All The Way Through Actually Should We Say It Together You Can Keep Me On The Right Verse Here We Go If The Lord Had Not Been On Our Side Let Israel Say If The Lord [66:30] Had Not Been On Our Side When People Attack Us They Would Have Swallowed Us Alive When Their Anger Flared Against Us The Flood Would Have Engulfed Us The Torrent Would Have Swept Over Us The Raging Waters Would Have Swept Us Away Praise Be To The Lord Who Has Not Let Us Be Torn By Their Teeth We Have Escaped Like A Bird From The Foul Of Snare The Snare Has Been Broken And We Have Escaped Our Help Is In The Name Of The Lord The Maker Of Heaven And Earth Well I Hope There's Enough There To Stir You To Worship The Lord But Just In Case I Thought We Just Ask That Question And Think About What Might Stir Us To Praise The Lord Are You Like David Able To Look Back On Your Life And See The Ways In Which God Has Delivered You I Wonder If You Can Think About Them Gosh [67:30] If The Lord Hadn't Been There Where Because Margaret Who Lived Till 101 Some Of Us Thought That She Was Immortal She Just Seemed To Keep On Going God Bless Her And She Was Sustained By These Verses In This Song Where It Said All I Have Needed Your Hand Has Provided Isn't That Wonderful That Led Margaret To Want To Praise The Lord And Through I Think It Was Only The Last Year Where She Struggled To Be Here And To Worship With Us So Do You Praise The Lord As You Look At Your Life In The Past Or Do You Praise The Lord Because You Look At The Life Death And Resurrection Of Jesus Do You Praise The Lord As You Consider That The Lord The Maker Of Heaven And Earth Is Listening To Our Prayers And [68:31] Answering This Is Remarkable Isn't It I Can't Think Of One Reason Why We Should Praise The Lord I Can Think Of Lots Of Them And As I Look When I'm Doing My Backstroke You Know It's Going To Come On The Lido I Feel Sorry For People Who Just Do Front Crawl Or Breast Stroke You See If You Just Lie Back And You Look At The Sky You Say The Heavens Declare The Glory Of God The Earth Proclaims The Work Of His Hands Day After Day They Pour For Speech Night After Night They Display Knowledge I Can't Think Of One Reason To Praise The Lord I Can Think Of Hundreds Of Reasons To Praise The Lord And That's Why We're Not Going To Delay Any Further And Marianne Is Going To Come And The Music Team And We're Going To Worship God Together We're Going To Have A Couple Of Songs Of Worship I Was Talking To Guy As I Was Preparing This Sermon He Said Malcolm You Put The Sermon In The Wrong Place You've Only Got One Song Of Praise After The Sermon It Needs More So We're [69:31] Going To Have Two Songs Of Praise So Let's Stand Shall We And Worship God As We sing God The Uncreated One He's King Forever And Then We'll Move On To There Is A Hope God The Uncreated One The Author Of Salvation The Lord The Lord Of Space And Time And Friend Of The Word To His Design The One Whom Angels Hold Shreve Humbly Scores Are Chant Bliss Number Every Grave Of Sand Knows The Heart [70:31] Of Every Man He Is King Forever He Is King Forever He Is King Forever More God Our Fortress And Our Strength The Rope On Which We Can Depend Matchless In His Majesty His Power And Authority See Unshaken By The Schemes Of Man Never Changing Great I Am Kingdoms Rise And Kingdoms Fall He Is Faithful Through It All Crown Him King Forever Crown Him King Forever [71:31] Crown Him King Forever More Mighty God Immortal Flesh Fossaken By A Traitor's Kiss The Curse Of Sin And Centuries Did Pierce The Lonely Prince Of Peace Lifted God Of Grace We Crown You In The Highest Praise Heaven Shouts And Shouts And Sings To The Lord Your Holy Holy Holy Lord What Joy In Ever Lasting Life All Is Love And End Is Sight Justice Rose And Praises Rise At The Name Of Jesus Christ King Of Kings Forever King Of Kings Forever King Of Kings Forever More Father Forgive us When we've Treated you As anything Less than Royalty As we've Imagined that You don't Have power Lord Help us To have A vision [73:36] Worthy Of who You are And all That you Are doing And will Do Father Forgive us For our Small Prayers Our Limited Praises Unleash Our Hearts Free us To be Able To Worship You And to Declare Your Praises Every Day Thank You Lord Amen Continue In Praise As we Sing There Is A Hope Let's Worship God And then We'll Have Our Blessing There Is A Hope That Burns Within My Heart That Gives Me Strength For Every Passing Day A Glimpse Of Glory [74:37] Now Revealed In Megapot Yet Drives All Doubt Away I Stand In Christ With Sins For Givn And Christ In Me The Hope Of Him My Highest Calling And My Deepest Joy To Make His Will My Home There Is Hope That Lifts My Weary Head A Consolation Strong Against Despair That When The World Has Plunged Me In Its Deepest Fit I Find The Saviour There Through Presence Suffering [75:37] Future Spear In Christmas Jorridge In My Ear For I Am Safe In Everlasting Arms And They Will Lead Me Home There Is A Hope That Turns To Testing Time That Lifts My Eyes Beyond A Begging Grave To See The Patchless Beauty Of A Day Divine When I Behold His Face When Suffering Cease And Sorrows Die And Every Longing Satisfied Then Joy Unspeak Of All Will Hurt Thy Soul For I [76:37] Am Truly Whole When Suffering Cease And Sorrows Die And Every Longing Satisfied Then Joy Unspeak Will Float My Soul For I Am Truly Whole And As we Stand Just the Last Part of That Psalm To Begin With Then A Blessing Praise Be To The Lord Who Has Not Let Us Be Torn By Their Teeth We Have Escaped Like A Bird Out Of The Fowler's Snare The Snare Has Been Broken And We Have Escaped Our Help Is In The Name Of The Lord The Maker Of Heaven And Earth And I Pray Father That Your Rich Blessings Will Be Upon Your People And [77:38] Flowing Out Through Your People Into This Town Into Our Families And Our Community This Week I Pray That The Joy Of The Lord Will Be Our Strength And That You Put A Song Of Praise On Our Lips A Song Of Praise To Our God And May The Blessing Of God Almighty Who Made Us God The Son Who Saved Us And God The Spirit Who Gives Us Life Be Among You And Remain With You Always Amen And Do Join
