Christ. 00:03:14.579 --> 00:03:18.780 The invisible God has been made visible in Christ. 00:03:19.099 --> 00:03:23.159 And we're going to see how Jesus reveals God in two ways. 00:03:24.639 --> we're going to explore about how God is revealed in the life and death of Jesus 00:03:53.259 --> 00:03:56.620 and what this means for you and I. 00:03:56.620 --> 00:04:03.599 But before this, let me just provide you with a little bit of background to our verse this morning. 00:04:04.520 --> 00:04:08.520 Also, when reading John's Gospel, we want to keep in mind that 00:04:08.520 --> 00:04:13.340 John gives us an eyewitness account to the life of Jesus. 00:04:14.520 --> 00:04:18.680 John, the beloved disciple, an eyewitness to Jesus' death and resurrection, 00:04:19.840 --> 00:04:24.300 introduces us to Jesus in the first chapter known as the prologue. 00:04:24.300 --> 00:04:31.280 Here, John presents Jesus as the eternal, preexistent, incarnate word, 00:04:32.040 --> 00:04:35.639 who became flesh and dwelt among his people. 00:04:37.120 --> 00:04:42.840 Jesus, whom the world was made, is the true light who gives light to everyone. 00:04:42.839 --> 00:04:51.000 So just as John begins chapter 1, so he concludes in chapter 1 in verse 18, 00:04:51.579 --> 00:04:58.120 where he describes how the invisible God has been made visible in Jesus Christ. 00:04:58.120 --> 00:05:03.420 Speaking of Jesus, John says in 1 verse 18, 00:05:04.420 --> 00:05:06.899 No one has ever seen God. 00:05:07.600 --> 00:05:13.540 The only God who is at the Father's side, he has made him known. 00:05:16.100 --> 00:05:17.860 John begins by saying, 00:05:18.360 --> 00:05:20.340 No one has ever seen God. 00:05:20.339 --> 00:05:25.479 In the Old Testament, God revealed himself partially to some, 00:05:25.839 --> 00:05:27.879 but never in a complete and full way. 00:05:29.139 --> 00:05:30.379 To Moses, God says, 00:05:30.560 --> 00:05:34.299 You cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live. 00:05:35.659 --> 00:05:40.879 Paul, in his letter to Timothy, speaks of God dwelling in unapproachable light, 00:05:41.319 --> 00:05:44.599 whom no one has ever seen or can see. 00:05:44.600 --> 00:05:48.360 In his book, The Living Church, 00:05:49.180 --> 00:05:50.780 John Stott asks the question, 00:05:52.280 --> 00:05:56.040 How has God solved the problem of his invisibility? 00:05:58.140 --> 00:06:03.680 First, he has revealed himself in the world he has made, 00:06:04.460 --> 00:06:09.700 for both the heavens and the earth reveal and declare his glory. 00:06:09.699 --> 00:06:13.459 Second, and supremely, 00:06:14.300 --> 00:06:19.620 God has revealed himself by sending his Son into the world. 00:06:21.240 --> 00:06:23.379 John 1 speaks of Jesus, 00:06:23.959 --> 00:06:25.219 the Logos, the Word, 00:06:25.579 --> 00:06:27.459 through whom all things were made, 00:06:28.339 --> 00:06:32.240 who took on human flesh and reveals God to us. 00:06:33.459 --> 00:06:35.419 This is why, in verse 18, 00:06:35.919 --> 00:06:36.879 John tells us, 00:06:37.279 --> 00:06:39.120 No one has ever seen God. 00:06:39.699 --> 00:06:42.699 The only God who is at the Father's side,
