It's about the good news of Jesus' life and death and resurrection. 00:00:34.060 --> 00:00:41.780 Just like I did last week, I want to remind you where we are at in the larger flow of the letter going back to chapter 5. 00:00:41.940 --> 00:00:49.359 You'll remember in chapter 5, Paul tells us we are saved by Jesus' life and death and resurrection, not by what we do. 00:00:49.680 --> 00:00:52.100 Okay, so it's God's grace, not our works. 00:00:52.460 --> 00:00:54.660 Chapter 6, Paul then goes on to say, what? 00:00:54.859 --> 00:01:01.000 However, even though you're not saved by works, that doesn't mean you can do whatever you want, live however you want. 00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:03.420 You still live lives of holiness. 00:01:03.979 --> 00:01:08.599 Then in chapter 7, we begin to ask this question, well, how do those lives of holiness happen? 00:01:09.219 --> 00:01:12.480 Chapter 7 tells us, well, it doesn't happen by the law. 00:01:13.000 --> 00:01:15.659 More rules will not save you. 00:01:15.900 --> 00:01:24.159 Which brings us to chapter 8, which finally provides the answer, holiness comes by the Spirit of God. 00:01:25.180 --> 00:01:28.099 Holiness comes by walking in the Spirit. 00:01:28.099 --> 00:01:30.559 And so that's where we left off last week. 00:01:30.619 --> 00:01:35.339 Remember last week we asked this question, how is it that we walk by the Spirit? hammer into pieces, 00:03:08.080 --> 00:03:15.159 which is a way of saying that there is nothing so powerful that God's Word is not more powerful still. 00:03:16.080 --> 00:03:20.280 So that's why we read now Romans chapter 8 starting at verse 9. 00:03:21.740 --> 00:03:29.400 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. 00:03:30.240 --> Well, you know what? 00:05:08.719 --> 00:05:14.039 It's great that you are a Christian, but you need something else. 00:05:15.459 --> 00:05:19.199 It's great that you're a Christian, but you also need a second baptism. 00:05:19.199 --> 00:05:24.120 You need the baptism of the Holy Spirit. 00:05:27.159 --> 00:05:35.579 You can be a Christian, in other words, at least according to these folks, and not have the Spirit of God. 00:05:36.419 --> 00:05:37.379 Now, what are we to make of that? 00:05:37.439 --> 00:05:39.019 What are we to think of that? 00:05:39.099 --> 00:05:43.459 Is it true that some Christians have the Holy Spirit and others don't? 00:05:43.719 --> 00:05:48.500 Is it true that we need another baptism or a second baptism? 00:05:48.500 --> 00:05:52.399 Paul answers that for us Christians have the Spirit, 00:08:40.799 --> 00:08:44.339 why would there be some Christians going around and teaching that not all Christians do, 00:08:44.419 --> 00:08:47.819 that some don't, that they need this second baptism? 00:08:48.079 --> 00:08:54.659 The answer is that it's basically a certain interpretation of the book of Acts that is incorrect. 00:08:55.000 --> 00:08:55.959 Okay, I'll gospel of John. 00:10:27.500 --> 00:10:29.279 John chapter 14, He says, 00:10:29.279 --> 00:10:31.319 I'm going to ask God the Father, 00:10:31.320 --> 00:10:37.379 and He will give you another helper to be with you forever. 00:10:38.780 --> 00:10:40.580 Even the Spirit of truth, 00:10:41.180 --> 00:10:44.080 whom the world cannot receive. 00:10:44.940 --> 00:10:47.120 Remember, those who are in
