00:01:21.300 --> 00:01:27.000 So they put slave masters over them, that is the Israelites, to oppress them with forced labor. 00:01:27.859 --> 00:01:32.300 And they built Pithom and Ramesses as store cities for Pharaoh. 00:01:32.299 --> 00:01:44.379 The Israelites carried a very strong reputation of being hardy and hardworking people. 00:01:45.840 --> 00:01:51.739 Indeed, the women of Israel were envied by the women of Egypt 00:01:51.739 --> 00:01:57.959 because they clearly found childbirth less of a problem than the Egyptian women did. 00:01:57.959 --> 00:02:03.139 They gave birth easily and in numbers. 00:02:03.399 --> 00:02:08.340 And because of that, Pharaoh, who clearly had a touch of the paranoid about him, 00:02:09.159 --> 00:02:16.120 decided that he would instigate a rather brutal form of birth control. 00:02:17.120 --> 00:02:25.439 And he did that by declaring that any son born to a Hebrew woman would be killed. 00:02:25.439 --> 00:02:34.680 That is why Moses' mother decided stuff, is it not? 00:03:45.919 --> 00:03:49.500 And in these days of identity politics, 00:03:49.719 --> 00:03:53.840 there's an interesting example of somebody who was found in the rushes,
