members send to them 00:00:49.760 --> 00:00:52.439 one thing that they really liked, which was peanut butter. 00:00:52.900 --> 00:00:57.079 So this young missionary family, every now and then, family from home would send them some peanut butter, 00:00:57.079 --> 00:01:01.320 and they'd have this lavish gift on their table that they would enjoy for the next couple of weeks. 00:01:01.780 --> 00:01:05.259 What they didn't know, until they received said peanut butter, 00:01:05.459 --> 00:01:11.539 was that there were other missionaries involved in their circle who really believed that it was a badge of honor 00:01:11.539 --> 00:01:16.799 that they didn't have condiments, that they didn't have these creature comforts that they could enjoy. 00:01:16.879 --> 00:01:22.259 They really felt like carrying your cross meant not having peanut butter. 00:01:22.260 --> 00:01:29.859 Now, this young family was more than happy to let them believe and feel that way and worship the Lord in that way, 00:01:29.920 --> 00:01:32.560 and they went on, in the privacy of their own home, 00:01:33.040 --> 00:01:36.080 enjoying their peanut butter and whatever condiments that had been sent to them, legalistic stuff like that with your fellow missionaries who are around you, 00:02:15.019 --> 00:02:18.699 just burn them out to the point that the family left, and the family went home. 00:02:20.680 --> 00:02:26.139 Now, to me, this story that I read this week was, it's a silly story, 00:02:26.539 --> 00:02:30.139 but it's a classic example of legalism, 00:02:30.139 --> 00:02:33.579 and what legalism does within the body of Christ, 00:02:34.539 --> 00:02:38.659 attacking when we seek out and attack each other's liberty, 00:02:39.239 --> 00:02:42.159 based on maybe a conviction that we have in our own heart. 00:02:43.939 --> 00:02:47.839 Basically, someone saying, you know, to be completely right with God, 00:02:48.259 --> 00:02:49.579 you need to do this. 00:02:49.659 --> 00:02:57.359 and it's imposing that on everybody else that's around them. 00:02:57.360 --> 00:03:01.060 In Romans, our passage from Romans, 00:03:01.860 --> 00:03:03.900 Paul, speaking to Rome, 00:03:04.440 --> 00:03:09.240 is writing to a people who have had legalists come up along beside them, 00:03:10.000 --> 00:03:11.280 and start speaking to them, 00:03:11.320 --> 00:03:14.140 and trying to get them to change their way away from Christian liberty. 00:03:14.440 --> 00:03:15.820 Trying to say, you know, you need to follow, 00:03:16.120 --> 00:03:17.900 that's all well and good, the gospel's all well and good, 00:03:17.920 --> 00:03:20.420 but you need to follow the law of Moses. 00:03:21.180 --> 00:03:23.040 You need to follow, not only the law of Moses, 00:03:23.160 -->
