them are just plain scared of what's going on in our world. 00:04:35.979 --> 00:04:38.539 And some are concerned about the economy. 00:04:39.099 --> 00:04:42.979 Of course, we have wars going on in our world today 00:04:42.979 --> 00:04:47.239 and other situations that they may face personally. 00:04:48.659 --> 00:04:55.639 You know, we notice that the days that we live in are really unlike any we've seen, 00:04:55.739 --> 00:04:59.099 and yet they're a lot like what we've seen in the past few decades. 00:04:59.100 --> 00:05:06.340 We're watching war times, scenes around the world, bombings and things like that. 00:05:06.740 --> 00:05:09.200 I don't know about you, but I don't enjoy that. 00:05:09.280 --> 00:05:09.580 Do you? 00:05:09.900 --> 00:05:15.379 I don't enjoy seeing the hope for the future. 00:05:30.280 --> 00:05:35.020 The Scripture tells us here, and Paul wrote to Timothy in chapter 1. 00:05:35.180 --> 00:05:38.580 I'm going to just touch a couple of things before we get into chapter 2. 00:05:39.860 --> 00:05:45.180 Paul was encouraging Timothy to just trust in the Lord and continue to be faithful 00:05:45.180 --> 00:05:47.600 and to have hope for the future. --> 00:05:59.340 And he also said in verse 12, he said, 00:05:59.339 --> 00:06:00.579 He said, 00:06:00.579 --> 00:06:02.079 He said, 00:06:02.459 --> 00:06:07.259 For which cause I also suffer these things, nevertheless I'm not ashamed. 00:06:07.879 --> 00:06:09.639 For I know whom I have believed. 00:06:10.039 --> 00:06:13.279 What a wonderful thing that is, to know whom you believe. 00:06:54.800 --> 00:07:03.120 And as he did, he gave instructions to Timothy and a plan to follow, really, some things that he could do here that would help. 00:07:03.800 --> 00:07:06.660 He was sharing with his son in the faith. 00:07:07.379 --> 00:07:10.080 First of all, notice, he said, 00:07:10.340 --> 00:07:14.980 Building hope in your life requires the strength of God's grace. 00:07:29.419 --> 00:07:31.680 Paul was a senior age preacher. 00:07:32.799 --> 00:07:36.839 Here preaching and teaching and writing from prison. 00:07:36.839 --> 00:07:40.939 And he knew his departure was coming. 00:07:41.619 --> 00:07:48.219 He knew one day he would be brought up and his life would be finished on this earth. 00:07:48.899 --> 00:07:49.759 And he did this. 00:07:49.799 --> 00:07:51.560 And he came down to this point in his life. 00:07:51.639 --> 00:07:56.659 He said, Timothy, I want you to know that you can be strong in the grace of God. 00:07:57.219 --> 00:07:59.539 You can be strong in the grace of God. 00:07:59.540 --> 00:08:04.640 He encouraged him, don't live in fear of the future. 00:08:05.740 --> 00:08:07.540 Don't live in fear of the future. 00:08:07.980 --> 00:08:11.620 You know, I see many people today and they watch the news. 00:08:12.060 --> 00:08:18.879 And by the way, don't you notice, a lot of the news channels you might listen to today or cause people to look at life and they say, 00:08:41.440 --> 00:08:43.299 I'm concerned, I'm worried. 00:08:43.399 --> 00:08:44.620 And a lot of people are. 00:08:45.700 --> 00:08:48.879 But notice he 00:11:00.360 And we walked through some of the areas that the Apostle Paul traveled through that country from Macedonia. 00:11:01.100 --> 00:11:03.720 As you remember Macedonia, that's northern Greece. 00:11:03.899 --> 00:11:09.360 And he walked down all the way through to a place called Thessalonica. 00:11:10.220 --> 00:11:11.960 It's called Thessaloniki today. 00:11:12.399 --> 00:11:13.659 We traveled down that way. 00:11:13.659 --> 00:11:16.740 And I thought, he was covering all this ground on foot. 00:11:17.480 --> 00:11:19.059 Not only that, but he climbed mountains. 00:11:19.179 --> 00:11:22.959 And up on top of one of those mountains, we came to a place called Apollonia. 00:11:23.439 --> 00:11:30.039 And as we were up there, I noticed you could look for many miles on top of that hill, on top of that mountain. 00:11:30.219 --> 00:11:32.179 And you could see forever and ever. 00:11:32.219 --> 00:11:33.559 You could see so many places. 00:11:33.559 --> 00:11:36.659 And in that place, he started preaching God's word. 00:11:37.439 --> 00:11:43.379 And they said whenever, just a few years later, there were many house churches that were started 00:11:43.379 --> 00:11:51.419 because the Apostle Paul walked through that place on foot, gave them the gospel, and then moved on to the next place. 00:11:51.959 --> 00:11:56.559 There's only one little sentence that's been put in the scripture about that. 00:11:56.919 --> 00:12:00.319 He went through Apollonia and he went on to the next place. 00:12:00.320 --> 00:12:08.720 I want you to know, sometimes your life may feel like, many of you. 00:13:31.519 --> 00:13:39.299 And those times I learned from men who were much more experienced, if you know what I mean. 00:13:39.620 --> 00:13:41.659 This stuff here is called experience, right? 00:13:42.059 --> 00:13:45.740 And he had all of that to grow through. 00:13:45.740 --> 00:13:51.980 Notice, Paul told Timothy, the things that you've heard, the things you've been taught, 00:13:52.060 --> 00:13:56.120 the things that your pastor has been teaching you and leading you in, 00:13:56.419 --> 00:14:01.200 the things that you've learned from the Word of God, the same
