series we're in, in adult Sunday school, is all about the work of Christ. 00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:50.000 And we've seen over the past few weeks that God saves through offices, through prophets, priests and kings. 00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:54.000 So God doesn't just zap this thing called salvation down. 00:02:54.000 --> 00:03:04.000 No, he saves by providing three types of men, three offices, three people with duties, which are given. 00:03:04.000 --> 00:03:09.000 These three offices are given to solve our three problems of sin. 00:03:09.000 --> 00:03:15.000 So if you remember, prophets cure ignorance, priests cure guilt and kings free the enslaved. 00:03:15.000 --> 00:03:20.000 And last week we saw that priests bring us to God. 00:03:20.000 --> 00:03:24.000 So we can't come to God in any old way. 00:03:24.000 --> 00:03:33.000 Because of our sin, there's this huge burden that hangs over us that separates from, separates us from God. 00:03:33.000 --> 00:03:38.000 His wrath and his justice is stopping us from approaching him. 00:03:38.000 --> 00:03:50.000 And so we need a, we need a priest to help us approach God, to propitiate that wrath, to end it, to divert it, to subdue it. 00:03:50.000 --> 00:03:55.000 And so priests in the Old Testament would sacrifice an animal. 00:03:55.000 --> 00:04:00.000 And so that animal would die instead of the human, instead of the Israelites. 00:04:00.000 --> 00:04:04.000 And so God's wrath would be propitiated because it had gone on to the animal. 00:04:04.000 --> 00:04:08.000 And so there would now be atonement between man and God. 00:04:08.000 --> 00:04:14.000 And then the priest would represent the people and bring the people with him into God's presence. 00:04:14.000 --> 00:04:22.000 And so we can only have eternal life and know God and be with God. 00:04:22.000 --> 00:04:23.000 That's what we need for eternal life. 00:04:23.000 --> 00:04:27.000 We can only do that through a priest. 00:04:27.000 --> 00:04:32.000 And all that is fulfilled and achieved in Christ. 00:04:32.000 --> 00:04:37.000 So in the Old Testament we have three different offices. 00:04:38.000 --> 00:04:40.000 And one of which was a priest. 00:04:40.000 --> 00:04:42.000 So priest and sacrifice were wrapped up together. 00:04:42.000 --> 00:04:46.000 But in the Lord Jesus Christ all these three offices kind of collapse into each other. 00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:49.000 And he is the prophet, priest and king. 00:04:49.000 --> 00:04:57.000 And so on the cross Christ offered himself as the perfect sinless sacrifice. 00:04:57.000 --> 00:05:03.000 And so Christ was a priest offering something, offering himself. 00:05:03.000 --> 00:05:09.000 And so his death has now and forever ended God's wrath over his people. 00:05:09.000 --> 00:05:11.000 It's propitiated God's wrath. 00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:16.000 We now have perfect atonement and reconciliation with God. 00:05:16.000 --> 00:05:26.000 But today I want us to see that Christ's priesthood didn't end on the cross. 00:05:26.000 --> 00:05:30.000 Because when we think of Christ's priestly work or his sacrifice. 00:05:30.000 --> 00:05:33.000 We can think, okay, it's just the cross. 00:05:33.000 --> 00:05:35.000 Like our minds only go there. 00:05:35.000 --> 00:05:38.000 But that's not the whole picture. 00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:46.000 But I want us to see today his priestly work continues to happen in heaven today. 00:05:46.000 --> 00:05:52.000 And right now Christ is acting as our priest on our behalf. 00:05:52.000 --> 00:05:55.000 As he is before the Father in heaven. 00:05:55.000 --> 00:05:59.000 I want us to see, well, first of all, how that is the case. 00:05:59.000 --> 00:06:01.000 Like what's that all about? 00:06:01.000 --> 00:06:05.000 But I want us to see why that is so important for us. 00:06:05.000 --> 00:06:09.000 And so first we need to see this. 00:06:09.000 --> 00:06:11.000 Christ isn't only a priest on the cross. 00:06:11.000 --> And just look at the verses I've got there for you. 00:06:27.000 --> 00:06:31.000 Look at when it says Christ is a priest. 00:06:31.000 --> 00:06:34.000 When is Christ a priest? 00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:41.000 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens. 00:06:41.000 --> 00:06:44.000 Jesus, the son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 00:06:44.000 --> 00:06:47.000 Hebrews 8.1. 00:06:47.000 --> 00:06:49.000 Now the point in what we're saying is this. 00:06:49.000 --> 00:06:51.000 This is the big point of Hebrews. 00:06:51.000 --> 00:06:54.000 We have such a high priest. 00:06:54.000 --> 00:06:59.000 One who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the majesty in heaven. 00:06:59.000 --> 00:07:01.000 So just look at that. 00:07:01.000 --> 00:07:04.000 When is Christ a priest? 00:07:04.000 --> 00:07:06.000 Right now. 00:07:06.000 --> 00:07:08.000 Seated in heaven. 00:07:08.000 --> 00:07:15.000 We currently have a high priest doing
