church. 00:01:11.340 --> 00:01:16.079 And looking back 50 years to remember God's faithfulness is really neat. 00:01:16.900 --> 00:01:20.420 But God has been faithful a lot longer than 50 years. 00:01:20.420 --> 00:01:25.560 He's been a God of redemption since before He created the world. 00:01:26.079 --> 00:01:27.500 That's who He is. 00:01:27.879 --> 00:01:36.120 Looking back to the Old Testament even to see His character on display generation after generation 00:01:36.120 --> 00:01:45.120 is a beautiful reminder to us of who God has always been and who He continues to be today and in our lives. 00:01:45.840 --> 00:01:54.340 So this summer, we're going to do that for a few weeks to look at what we will call redemption stories in the Old Testament. 00:01:54.620 --> 00:01:56.320 You can see a couple of them up there. 00:01:56.380 --> 00:01:58.340 You might be able to figure out which ones they are. 00:01:58.340 --> 00:02:04.900 He's been working to redeem for thousands and thousands of years. 00:02:05.120 --> 00:02:09.319 And some pastors and churches these days are critiquing the Old Testament. 00:02:10.340 --> 00:02:17.340 They're fearful of the wrathful God that we will find there and not like and be turned off by. 00:02:17.340 --> 00:02:29.180 But we will see there a God who is indeed holy and who is and has always been all about redemption, full of grace. 00:02:30.560 --> 00:02:35.460 So that's going to expand our vision of God's greatness, of His love. 00:02:35.840 --> 00:02:42.039 That vision we have that Paul tells us in Ephesians is the one thing that is absolutely essential 00:02:42.039 --> 00:02:46.500 essential to us being the people in the church God has called us to be. 00:02:46.579 --> 00:02:53.019 That we would have a glorious vision of God, of His great love for us. 00:02:53.500 --> 00:02:58.819 And as we look back to the Old Testament, it's going to expand that vision that we have. 00:02:59.000 --> 00:03:00.959 That we might love love being able to go to the Old Testament for that. 00:03:10.300 --> 00:03:15.420 One other reason that we pastors wanted to spend some time in the Old Testament this summer 00:03:15.420 --> 00:03:29.800 Many of these great stories are stories that we and our kids know and love. 00:03:30.060 --> 00:03:35.900 And so we get a chance as we look at some of these Sunday school stories and some Because God is here and that's who He is. 00:04:12.500 --> 00:04:16.000 Read with me in Genesis chapter 3 the whole story 00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:19.120 and then we'll look back at parts of it 00:09:28.100 and disrespecting his authority. 00:09:30.299 --> 00:09:32.360 Adam and Eve had been promised 00:09:32.360 --> 00:09:34.840 that disobeying God 00:09:34.840 --> 00:09:37.860 would have frightful consequences. 00:09:38.799 --> 00:09:40.980 And man's first sin here, 00:09:40.980 --> 00:09:44.440 determining to distrust his good creator 00:09:44.440 --> 00:09:47.220 and insist on his own way, 00:09:47.779 --> 00:09:51.100 indeed receives God's just punishment. 00:09:51.620 --> 00:09:53.920 We learn right away about God 00:09:53.920 --> 00:09:56.420 that he takes sin quite
