WEBVTT

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:09.419
 We're going to begin our worship this evening. We're going to sing to God's praise in Psalm 40 in the Sing Psalms version, page 50 of the psalm books.

00:00:09.939 --> 00:00:13.540
 We're going to sing from verse 1 down to verse 8.

00:00:14.620 --> 00:00:16.260
 The tune is Rockingham.

00:00:16.260 --> 00:00:26.839
 I waited long upon the Lord. He heard my cry and turned to me. He raised me from the slimy pit and from the mire. He pulled me free.

00:00:26.839 --> 00:00:34.840
 We see in this psalm just that wonder of what the Lord does for us, how he is there to help us.

00:00:35.320 --> 00:00:43.019
 And again, this evening we're going to be thinking of that theme of the benefits of God towards us from Psalm 103.

00:00:43.219 --> 00:00:48.480
 But we're going to sing from verse 1 to 8, Psalm 40. We stand to sing to God's praise.

00:00:48.479 --> 00:01:08.479
 I waited long upon the Lord. He had my cry and turned to me.

00:01:08.480 --> 00:01:28.480
 He raised me from the slimy pit and from the mire. He pulled me free.

00:01:28.480 --> 00:01:58.460
 He laid my cry and turned to me. He laid my cry and turned to me.

00:01:58.459 --> 00:02:28.439
 He laid my cry and turned to me. He laid my cry and turned to me.

00:02:28.439 --> 00:02:31.680
 He laid my cry and turned to me. He laid my cry and turned to me.

00:02:31.680 --> 00:02:49.479
 He laid my cry and turned to me. He laid my cry and turned to me.

00:02:49.479 --> 00:03:02.519
 O Lord, our many and our great day are.

00:03:02.520 --> 00:03:20.680
 Your plans for us are far beyond, our power to number or declare.

00:03:20.680 --> 00:03:39.140
 Good day, not us, but God's or bones, beyond us and great fights for sin.

00:03:39.139 --> 00:03:56.039
 But you have opened up my ears, who did not see burnt offering.

00:03:56.039 --> 00:04:15.000
 And I declare, Lord, I have come and threaten of me endless soul.

00:04:15.000 --> 00:04:24.120
 I want to do your well, my God.

00:04:24.480 --> 00:04:32.639
 You're always in my heart and soul.

00:04:35.639 --> 00:04:39.000
 Let's bow our heads in a word of prayer. Let us pray.

00:04:39.000 --> 00:04:39.079
 Amen.

00:04:41.740 --> 00:04:46.399
 Lord, our gracious God, we come to wait upon you anew this evening,

00:04:46.579 --> 00:04:52.319
 thankful for the patience that you give to us and the patience that you show towards us.

00:04:52.680 --> 00:04:55.720
 We thank you that you are a loving and a gracious God,

00:04:56.319 --> 00:05:02.220
 and you are the one who has, for his people, lifted them up out of the miry clay

00:05:02.220 --> 00:05:07.680
 from the slimy pit and put our feet on the rock that is Jesus Christ.

00:05:07.680 --> 00:05:10.819
 And we thank you for the wonder of that salvation.

00:05:11.060 --> 00:05:14.319
 We thank you for the wonder of your grace towards us,

00:05:14.879 --> 00:05:17.100
 that you are a God who remembers us,

00:05:17.280 --> 00:05:21.840
 and that you give us a joyful song of praise to offer up to you.

00:05:22.319 --> 00:05:28.199
 And we pray this evening that as we begin our worship with that song of praise to you,

00:05:28.259 --> 00:05:31.740
 and as we go on praising your name this evening in song,

00:05:31.740 --> 00:05:40.019
 that you would help us to sing the riches of these words that we look at and that we read and that we sing together.

00:05:40.460 --> 00:05:43.920
 Help us to sing with that joy from our hearts,

00:05:44.259 --> 00:05:48.660
 that you are one who has blessed us with so many benefits.

00:05:49.060 --> 00:05:53.060
 You have been gracious towards us, as the psalmist says,

00:05:53.300 --> 00:05:56.400
 our power to number them or declare is beyond us,

00:05:56.399 --> 00:06:00.259
 because there are so many, the wonders that you have done.

00:06:00.859 --> 00:06:03.179
 And we do bless you, Lord, for the wonders.

00:06:03.739 --> 00:06:09.819
 We bless you for the ones that we so often just see as the normality of life,

00:06:10.339 --> 00:06:12.620
 the wonders of life itself,

00:06:12.879 --> 00:06:18.759
 the wonders of what we see and what we feel, what we touch, what we taste.

00:06:18.759 --> 00:06:23.839
 We have so much to give thanks for, whether it's the food on our tables,

00:06:24.539 --> 00:06:29.219
 the water, the fluids that keep us and sustain us,

00:06:29.779 --> 00:06:33.399
 the wonders of health and strength, the air that we breathe.

00:06:33.459 --> 00:06:37.800
 And there's so many things, Lord, that we just take for granted.

00:06:38.500 --> 00:06:40.539
 And we just want to thank you for them.

00:06:41.240 --> 00:06:45.259
 But we want to thank you too, Lord, for the wonders of your grace,

00:06:45.259 --> 00:06:49.519
 the wonders of salvation and the joy that there is in that,

00:06:49.620 --> 00:06:52.639
 the wonder of the world in which we live in,

00:06:52.959 --> 00:06:56.259
 created by you in all its perfect state,

00:06:56.800 --> 00:06:59.899
 how you brought it all into being by the word of your power,

00:07:00.519 --> 00:07:03.000
 how you saw it all as so very good,

00:07:03.680 --> 00:07:05.079
 the day and the night,

00:07:05.620 --> 00:07:10.399
 the animals, the kingdoms, the seas, the skies,

00:07:10.539 --> 00:07:12.259
 all in their enormity.

00:07:12.259 --> 00:07:17.360
 And yet, oh Lord, also wonderful in the work of your hands.

00:07:17.879 --> 00:07:20.800
 And then mankind as you created us in your image.

00:07:21.480 --> 00:07:23.699
 And we see the marvels of that.

00:07:24.199 --> 00:07:26.399
 And yet we know too, as we read your word,

00:07:26.500 --> 00:07:29.939
 that we see the sin that came into the heart of man.

00:07:30.420 --> 00:07:34.480
 We see the sin that spoiled that relationship, that creation.

00:07:35.219 --> 00:07:38.060
 And yet, Lord, you did not give what we deserved.

00:07:38.060 --> 00:07:41.639
 You remembered us with your steadfast love,

00:07:41.759 --> 00:07:43.019
 your covenant love.

00:07:43.699 --> 00:07:46.540
 And even from the fall, when sin came into the world,

00:07:47.100 --> 00:07:52.319
 you have been a God who has been working out that great plan of salvation,

00:07:53.199 --> 00:07:57.160
 shown to us through the sacrifices in the Old Testament,

00:07:57.879 --> 00:08:00.519
 shown through us through the Passover meal,

00:08:00.519 --> 00:08:04.680
 that your people would remember you on a yearly basis

00:08:04.680 --> 00:08:07.019
 and your deliverance of them

00:08:07.019 --> 00:08:09.060
 as you brought them out of Egypt

00:08:09.060 --> 00:08:13.019
 into a land that was so rich and blessed by you.

00:08:13.560 --> 00:08:15.599
 And we thank you that there was that remembrance

00:08:15.599 --> 00:08:17.399
 down through all the generations,

00:08:17.680 --> 00:08:20.859
 but it was always pointing to a greater remembrance

00:08:20.859 --> 00:08:23.000
 when your love would be seen

00:08:23.000 --> 00:08:25.959
 and you're giving your own son, Jesus Christ,

00:08:26.379 --> 00:08:27.899
 who came into this world,

00:08:28.519 --> 00:08:29.879
 who was born into it,

00:08:29.879 --> 00:08:34.000
 who lived the life that we couldn't,

00:08:34.620 --> 00:08:37.740
 who showed his authority in so many different ways,

00:08:38.340 --> 00:08:40.220
 his teaching, his miracles,

00:08:40.480 --> 00:08:42.799
 his authority over all things.

00:08:43.500 --> 00:08:46.200
 And yet we see a world that condemned him

00:08:46.200 --> 00:08:47.299
 and rejected him.

00:08:47.919 --> 00:08:49.740
 And we marvel then at the cross

00:08:49.740 --> 00:08:53.559
 where he came to give his life for his people,

00:08:53.820 --> 00:08:57.360
 where his body was broken and his blood was shed,

00:08:57.360 --> 00:08:59.779
 and where he reminded us

00:08:59.779 --> 00:09:01.980
 that there was a remembrance in this too,

00:09:02.560 --> 00:09:04.700
 that we would do this in remembrance of him,

00:09:04.820 --> 00:09:06.419
 taking the bread and the wine

00:09:06.419 --> 00:09:10.259
 and that sacrifice shown through them,

00:09:10.700 --> 00:09:13.659
 that we would remember what has been done for us

00:09:13.659 --> 00:09:14.919
 at the cross

00:09:14.919 --> 00:09:18.399
 and through the greatness of the resurrection too

00:09:18.399 --> 00:09:21.500
 and all the promises that that gives to your people.

00:09:22.500 --> 00:09:24.259
 And so, Lord, in these remembrances,

00:09:24.439 --> 00:09:26.399
 we thank you that as a people today,

00:09:26.939 --> 00:09:30.059
 it leads us to that time of remembrance

00:09:30.059 --> 00:09:31.459
 in our own congregation,

00:09:32.100 --> 00:09:34.519
 when once again we will gather, God willing,

00:09:35.019 --> 00:09:36.519
 around your word

00:09:36.519 --> 00:09:39.199
 and around the sacrament of the Lord's Supper

00:09:39.200 --> 00:09:41.480
 in just a fortnight's time.

00:09:42.100 --> 00:09:43.060
 And we pray, Lord,

00:09:43.120 --> 00:09:46.320
 that we would see the benefits there for us,

00:09:46.720 --> 00:09:50.580
 that we would see that our sin is forgiven

00:09:50.580 --> 00:09:52.280
 through faith in Christ,

00:09:52.780 --> 00:09:54.740
 and that we would see that we are indeed

00:09:54.740 --> 00:09:57.080
 to do this in remembrance of him.

00:09:57.700 --> 00:10:00.080
 And so may your blessing be over us as a people,

00:10:00.520 --> 00:10:02.040
 as a congregation here,

00:10:02.100 --> 00:10:03.520
 as we prepare our hearts,

00:10:03.580 --> 00:10:04.960
 as we prepared,

00:10:05.580 --> 00:10:09.020
 as ministers prepared to come and minister here,

00:10:09.780 --> 00:10:11.640
 we think of Rory Stott coming,

00:10:11.879 --> 00:10:13.300
 God willing, next Lord's Day,

00:10:13.360 --> 00:10:15.300
 and then over the communion weekend,

00:10:15.480 --> 00:10:17.240
 having Reverend Roddy John Campbell

00:10:17.240 --> 00:10:19.100
 and Reverend David McLeod with us,

00:10:19.600 --> 00:10:21.200
 we do pray that they will minister

00:10:21.200 --> 00:10:24.259
 a word that you are giving them even now,

00:10:24.820 --> 00:10:27.680
 a word for people here to hear

00:10:27.680 --> 00:10:28.820
 and to be encouraged,

00:10:28.960 --> 00:10:29.700
 to be strengthened,

00:10:30.280 --> 00:10:32.000
 to be challenged and rebuked by,

00:10:32.720 --> 00:10:35.280
 that we would come preparing our hearts

00:10:35.280 --> 00:10:37.060
 to be under the gospel

00:10:37.060 --> 00:10:38.960
 and under the wonder of it.

00:10:39.680 --> 00:10:41.800
 And so we ask that you would hear prayers

00:10:41.800 --> 00:10:43.040
 in these days,

00:10:43.120 --> 00:10:44.879
 not just for ourselves as a congregation,

00:10:45.259 --> 00:10:47.200
 but for all our congregations

00:10:47.200 --> 00:10:49.660
 throughout our presbytery here

00:10:49.660 --> 00:10:50.759
 and throughout our land

00:10:50.759 --> 00:10:51.920
 and throughout the world.

00:10:52.560 --> 00:10:54.140
 We thank you for your people,

00:10:54.879 --> 00:10:55.980
 far and wide,

00:10:56.020 --> 00:10:57.860
 and we just ask that your word,

00:10:57.940 --> 00:10:59.879
 as it's proclaimed even this evening hour,

00:11:00.480 --> 00:11:02.300
 that it would be a blessing to many.

00:11:02.959 --> 00:11:04.240
 We thank you too, Lord,

00:11:04.339 --> 00:11:06.079
 for all that we seek to do in your name.

00:11:06.599 --> 00:11:08.659
 We thank you looking back over the last week,

00:11:08.740 --> 00:11:10.000
 how you have kept us,

00:11:10.099 --> 00:11:11.139
 how you have been with us.

00:11:11.519 --> 00:11:13.419
 Thank you for the encouragement of Friday evening

00:11:13.419 --> 00:11:15.099
 as we enjoyed the current evening,

00:11:16.000 --> 00:11:18.359
 raising funds for the work of the camps.

00:11:18.459 --> 00:11:21.179
 And we thank you for all who helped in that,

00:11:21.279 --> 00:11:23.199
 all who were there in attendance,

00:11:23.200 --> 00:11:25.900
 and for the encouragement that we had together,

00:11:26.060 --> 00:11:27.640
 hearing of the work of camps.

00:11:28.240 --> 00:11:31.060
 We pray for the ongoing ministry of them

00:11:31.060 --> 00:11:34.180
 as leaders prepare for them

00:11:34.180 --> 00:11:35.640
 and as campers prepare

00:11:35.640 --> 00:11:39.100
 to hear word of where they might be going.

00:11:39.659 --> 00:11:41.580
 We pray that there will be a real sense

00:11:41.580 --> 00:11:44.060
 of your peace and blessing in it all.

00:11:44.639 --> 00:11:46.120
 We thank you of our own young people

00:11:46.120 --> 00:11:47.420
 who have been away this weekend

00:11:47.420 --> 00:11:48.879
 in Scaladale.

00:11:48.960 --> 00:11:50.300
 We thank you for that trip.

00:11:50.519 --> 00:11:53.279
 We pray that it will be a real time of blessing,

00:11:53.700 --> 00:11:54.779
 not just in these days,

00:11:54.860 --> 00:11:56.500
 but in the days ahead as well,

00:11:56.600 --> 00:11:58.700
 that there will be great fruit from it.

00:11:59.379 --> 00:12:00.440
 We thank you, Lord,

00:12:00.540 --> 00:12:02.460
 for all your goodness to us,

00:12:02.500 --> 00:12:04.840
 for every remembrance that you have towards us

00:12:04.840 --> 00:12:05.960
 as a people,

00:12:06.139 --> 00:12:07.320
 in all our different needs,

00:12:07.460 --> 00:12:08.000
 in our homes,

00:12:08.100 --> 00:12:08.779
 in our families.

00:12:09.840 --> 00:12:11.680
 Those who are unwell,

00:12:11.800 --> 00:12:13.600
 those who are mourning and grieving.

00:12:14.399 --> 00:12:15.519
 And we do pray, Lord,

00:12:15.639 --> 00:12:17.720
 for funerals that have taken place

00:12:17.720 --> 00:12:18.879
 and will take place,

00:12:18.980 --> 00:12:19.379
 God willing,

00:12:19.480 --> 00:12:20.500
 to motto as well,

00:12:20.580 --> 00:12:21.860
 that your comfort,

00:12:22.080 --> 00:12:22.580
 your grace,

00:12:22.659 --> 00:12:24.000
 and your mercy be with us.

00:12:24.620 --> 00:12:25.759
 We do commit ourselves

00:12:25.759 --> 00:12:27.240
 into your hands now, Lord,

00:12:27.279 --> 00:12:29.200
 as we further sing your praise

00:12:29.200 --> 00:12:30.620
 and hear your word, Lord.

00:12:30.680 --> 00:12:31.960
 May you minister to us.

00:12:32.440 --> 00:12:33.800
 May you bless us by it.

00:12:33.800 --> 00:12:35.680
 And may you go before us

00:12:35.680 --> 00:12:37.060
 in the week ahead as well,

00:12:37.120 --> 00:12:38.660
 in all we seek to do

00:12:38.659 --> 00:12:39.279
 in our homes,

00:12:39.399 --> 00:12:40.019
 in our families,

00:12:40.259 --> 00:12:41.919
 in our work lives,

00:12:42.079 --> 00:12:43.779
 in our day-to-day experiences.

00:12:44.079 --> 00:12:44.199
 Lord,

00:12:44.259 --> 00:12:45.120
 may we do all

00:12:45.120 --> 00:12:46.919
 to your glory

00:12:46.919 --> 00:12:49.159
 and knowing your presence with us.

00:12:49.579 --> 00:12:50.459
 So guide us now,

00:12:50.539 --> 00:12:51.360
 go before us,

00:12:51.480 --> 00:12:52.039
 pardon us

00:12:52.039 --> 00:12:53.379
 for all our sins.

00:12:53.379 --> 00:12:54.399
 That's all we ask.

00:12:54.480 --> 00:12:55.799
 We ask in Jesus' name.

00:12:56.259 --> 00:12:56.659
 Amen.

00:13:00.139 --> 00:13:01.919
 We'll again sing to God's praise,

00:13:01.959 --> 00:13:03.740
 this time in Psalm 112

00:13:03.740 --> 00:13:06.019
 in the Scottish Psalter version.

00:13:07.639 --> 00:13:09.079
 Psalm 112.

00:13:09.080 --> 00:13:14.700
 We're going to sing from verse 1

00:13:14.700 --> 00:13:16.879
 to verse 6.

00:13:17.040 --> 00:13:19.400
 You find this on page 392.

00:13:20.460 --> 00:13:21.820
 Psalm 112.

00:13:23.100 --> 00:13:24.520
 Praise ye the Lord,

00:13:24.680 --> 00:13:25.840
 the man is blessed,

00:13:25.980 --> 00:13:27.960
 that fears the Lord aright.

00:13:28.460 --> 00:13:30.139
 He who in his commandments

00:13:30.139 --> 00:13:32.540
 doth greatly take delight.

00:13:32.680 --> 00:13:34.960
 We'll sing from verse 1 to 6,

00:13:35.040 --> 00:13:36.879
 and the tune is Bethesda.

00:13:36.879 --> 00:13:38.399
 We stand to sing.

00:13:38.399 --> 00:13:39.399
 Amen.

00:14:06.879 --> 00:14:10.480
 The man is blessed,

00:14:10.840 --> 00:14:16.879
 the faith which ain't divine.

00:14:16.879 --> 00:14:26.879
 His gene and offspring powerful

00:14:26.879 --> 00:14:34.879
 shall be the heir upon

00:14:34.879 --> 00:14:40.879
 of the upright man.

00:14:40.879 --> 00:14:45.879
 Blessed shall be

00:14:45.879 --> 00:14:51.879
 a gentle invitation.

00:14:54.879 --> 00:14:58.879
 Wrages unwell

00:14:58.879 --> 00:15:03.879
 shall never be

00:15:03.879 --> 00:15:08.879
 within his heart

00:15:08.879 --> 00:15:11.879
 and store

00:15:11.879 --> 00:15:17.879
 of his unspotted

00:15:17.879 --> 00:15:18.879
 and the truth

00:15:18.879 --> 00:15:20.879
 and the truth

00:15:20.879 --> 00:15:20.879

00:15:20.879 --> 00:15:22.879
 in his heart.

00:15:22.879 --> 00:15:24.879
 And truth

00:15:24.879 --> 00:15:24.879

00:15:24.879 --> 00:15:25.879
 I could be

00:15:25.879 --> 00:15:25.879

00:15:25.879 --> 00:15:27.879
 of Christ,

00:15:27.879 --> 00:15:30.879
 though he

00:15:30.879 --> 00:15:31.879
 in love

00:15:31.879 --> 00:15:32.879
 that's

00:15:32.879 --> 00:15:32.879

00:15:32.879 --> 00:15:33.879
 a bright light

00:15:33.879 --> 00:15:34.879
 of Christ.

00:15:34.879 --> 00:15:55.919
 voy voy

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:55.919 --> 00:15:55.919

00:15:57.919 --> 00:15:55.919
!

00:15:55.919 --> 00:16:16.959
 Let us pray.

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:16.959

00:16:16.959 --> 00:16:18.959
 Let us pray.

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.959 --> 00:16:18.959

00:16:18.960 --> 00:16:24.780
 To a first land

00:16:24.780 --> 00:16:30.440
 He with discretion

00:16:30.440 --> 00:16:34.440
 His affairs

00:16:35.000 --> 00:16:37.500
 Will guide

00:16:37.500 --> 00:16:42.440
 Until the end

00:16:42.440 --> 00:16:46.700
 To be there

00:16:46.700 --> 00:16:52.460
 A daily thing

00:16:52.460 --> 00:16:57.440
 That ever shall

00:16:57.440 --> 00:17:00.320
 Emblem

00:17:00.320 --> 00:17:05.940
 The righteous man's

00:17:05.940 --> 00:17:09.559
 Memoria

00:17:09.559 --> 00:17:13.380
 Shall ever

00:17:13.380 --> 00:17:17.140
 As in truth

00:17:17.140 --> 00:17:33.060
 We'll turn together to read God's Word. A slight change to what's on the bulletin. Our first reading will be in the Gospel of Luke, and then our second reading will be in Psalm 103.

00:17:33.059 --> 00:17:41.220
 So we're going to read first of all in the Gospel of Luke chapter 17 and read at verse 11 down to verse 19.

00:17:41.220 --> 00:17:58.819
 You'll find it around page 1056 of the Church Bibles. Luke chapter 17, and we read from verse 11. And here we read this account of Jesus as he cleanses ten lepers.

00:17:58.819 --> 00:18:04.439
 But what we notice is how many actually came back to give thanks to Jesus.

00:18:04.440 --> 00:18:15.480
 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village he was met by ten lepers who stood at a distance.

00:18:16.059 --> 00:18:19.000
 And he lifted up their voices saying,

00:18:19.500 --> 00:18:22.720
 Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

00:18:22.720 --> 00:18:25.799
 When he saw them, he said to them,

00:18:26.480 --> 00:18:29.180
 Go and show yourselves to the priests.

00:18:29.759 --> 00:18:32.579
 And as they went, they were cleansed.

00:18:33.259 --> 00:18:40.200
 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice.

00:18:40.799 --> 00:18:45.480
 And he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks.

00:18:46.420 --> 00:18:48.059
 Now he was a Samaritan.

00:18:48.059 --> 00:18:50.639
 Then Jesus answered,

00:18:51.359 --> 00:18:53.039
 Were not ten cleansed?

00:18:53.599 --> 00:18:54.819
 Where are the nine?

00:18:55.619 --> 00:19:00.819
 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?

00:19:01.599 --> 00:19:03.099
 And he said to him,

00:19:03.720 --> 00:19:05.839
 Rise and go your way.

00:19:06.379 --> 00:19:08.940
 Your faith has made you well.

00:19:10.200 --> 00:19:12.980
 Then we turn to read in the book of Psalms.

00:19:13.720 --> 00:19:15.819
 We're going to read in Psalm 103,

00:19:15.819 --> 00:19:19.000
 Reading from verse 14.

00:19:23.599 --> 00:19:26.720
 Reading from verse 14 down to the end of the psalm.

00:19:26.799 --> 00:19:30.299
 This last section we're going to look at this evening together.

00:19:30.419 --> 00:19:34.399
 But it's always looking back in light of verse 1 and 2.

00:19:35.439 --> 00:19:37.419
 Bless the Lord, it says in verse 1,

00:19:37.559 --> 00:19:40.099
 O my soul, and all that is within me,

00:19:40.220 --> 00:19:41.480
 bless his holy name.

00:19:41.599 --> 00:19:43.839
 Bless the Lord, O my soul,

00:19:43.839 --> 00:19:47.359
 and forget not all his benefits.

00:19:47.359 --> 00:19:52.439
 Forget not all his benefits is the theme that we've been looking at throughout this psalm.

00:19:52.539 --> 00:19:58.359
 We're going to see further the benefits that we read of in verse 14 to 22 this evening.

00:19:58.480 --> 00:20:00.339
 So we take up our reading at verse 14.

00:20:00.339 --> 00:20:03.099
 For he knows our frame.

00:20:03.099 --> 00:20:05.559
 He remembers that we are dust.

00:20:06.059 --> 00:20:09.339
 As for man, his days are like grass.

00:20:09.539 --> 00:20:12.259
 He flourishes like a flower of the field.

00:20:12.740 --> 00:20:15.539
 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone.

00:20:16.059 --> 00:20:18.619
 And its place knows it no more.

00:20:18.619 --> 00:20:25.699
 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,

00:20:26.099 --> 00:20:28.759
 and his righteousness to children's children,

00:20:28.899 --> 00:20:33.000
 to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.

00:20:33.619 --> 00:20:37.000
 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,

00:20:37.219 --> 00:20:40.419
 and his kingdom rules over all.

00:20:40.420 --> 00:20:43.840
 Bless the Lord, O you his angels,

00:20:44.500 --> 00:20:46.640
 you mighty ones who do his word,

00:20:47.620 --> 00:20:49.759
 obeying the voice of his word.

00:20:50.380 --> 00:20:52.660
 Bless the Lord, all his hosts,

00:20:52.880 --> 00:20:55.140
 his ministers who do his will.

00:20:55.980 --> 00:20:58.039
 Bless the Lord, all his works,

00:20:58.259 --> 00:21:00.700
 in all places of his dominion.

00:21:01.519 --> 00:21:04.660
 Bless the Lord, O my soul.

00:21:05.259 --> 00:21:05.860
 Amen.

00:21:06.019 --> 00:21:09.380
 And may God bless these readings from his word.

00:21:09.380 --> 00:21:13.940
 Before we turn to look at this passage together,

00:21:14.040 --> 00:21:18.000
 we'll again sing to God's praise in Psalm 139.

00:21:19.200 --> 00:21:23.840
 This is in the Scottish Psalter version.

00:21:24.460 --> 00:21:25.720
 Page 433.

00:21:26.900 --> 00:21:28.380
 The tune is Belmont.

00:21:28.900 --> 00:21:33.180
 We're going to sing from verse 15 down to verse 18.

00:21:33.500 --> 00:21:35.440
 Psalm 139 at verse 15.

00:21:35.440 --> 00:21:38.160
 My substance was not hid from thee,

00:21:38.160 --> 00:21:40.320
 when as in secret eye was made,

00:21:40.779 --> 00:21:44.600
 and in earth's lowest parts was wrought most curiously.

00:21:45.320 --> 00:21:49.019
 We see then, again in verse 17 there,

00:21:49.080 --> 00:21:51.200
 how precious also are thy thoughts.

00:21:51.800 --> 00:21:53.519
 O gracious God to me.

00:21:53.640 --> 00:21:54.640
 And in their sum,

00:21:55.120 --> 00:21:58.340
 how passing great and numberless they be.

00:21:58.440 --> 00:22:00.380
 The precious thoughts of God,

00:22:00.580 --> 00:22:03.040
 they are numberless towards his people.

00:22:03.039 --> 00:22:05.299
 So we're going to sing from verse 15 to 18

00:22:05.299 --> 00:22:07.460
 to God's praise.

00:22:07.460 --> 00:22:10.700
 Please, if you are singing,

00:22:10.700 --> 00:22:10.700

00:22:10.700 --> 00:22:10.700

00:22:10.700 --> 00:22:10.700

00:22:10.700 --> 00:22:11.600
 Please, if you are singing,

00:22:11.600 --> 00:22:12.559
 Please, if you are singing,

00:22:12.559 --> 00:22:12.559

00:22:12.559 --> 00:22:13.700
 Please, if you are singing,

00:22:13.700 --> 00:22:14.559
 Please, if you are singing,

00:22:14.559 --> 00:22:15.559
 Please, if you are singing,

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:15.559

00:22:15.559 --> 00:22:29.399
 What's not in the me, where else in secret I?

00:22:29.399 --> 00:22:38.759
 What's made a day, where's low as part?

00:22:38.759 --> 00:22:46.759
 What's not what's curiosity?

00:22:46.759 --> 00:22:55.759
 Thine eyes, my substance, did thee hold,

00:22:55.759 --> 00:23:03.759
 Yet being that we're fed,

00:23:03.759 --> 00:23:12.759
 And in the war you all I knew,

00:23:12.759 --> 00:23:20.759
 My bed worked so on where it,

00:23:20.759 --> 00:23:29.759
 When tafted in continuance,

00:23:29.759 --> 00:23:37.759
 Where passion'd every one,

00:23:37.759 --> 00:23:46.759
 When us be there, all shameless were,

00:23:46.759 --> 00:23:54.759
 And not then there was none.

00:23:54.759 --> 00:24:03.759
 O precious Lord, so are thy thoughts,

00:24:03.759 --> 00:24:11.759
 O precious Lord, to thee,

00:24:11.759 --> 00:24:20.759
 And in their song a passing play,

00:24:20.759 --> 00:24:28.759
 And numberless may be,

00:24:28.759 --> 00:24:37.759
 If I should have that landless hand,

00:24:37.759 --> 00:24:45.759
 A more and number be,

00:24:45.759 --> 00:24:54.759
 What time so ever I know thee,

00:24:54.759 --> 00:25:02.759
 I ever come with thee.

00:25:02.759 --> 00:25:12.759
 We can turn back to our reading in Psalm 103,

00:25:12.759 --> 00:25:16.759
 And we're going to look at the last part of this psalm this evening,

00:25:16.759 --> 00:25:19.759
 Verse 14 down to the end.

00:25:19.759 --> 00:25:21.759
 We read again at verse 14,

00:25:21.759 --> 00:25:23.759
 For he knows our frame,

00:25:23.759 --> 00:25:27.759
 He remembers that we are dust.

00:25:27.759 --> 00:25:28.759
 And so it goes on,

00:25:28.759 --> 00:25:31.759
 But in light of, as I said, what comes in verse 2,

00:25:31.759 --> 00:25:34.759
 Forget not all his benefits.

00:25:34.759 --> 00:25:38.759
 That's been the theme as we've been going through this psalm.

00:25:38.759 --> 00:25:39.759
 Forget not all the benefits,

00:25:39.759 --> 00:25:42.759
 And we've outlined how many benefits that we see,

00:25:42.759 --> 00:25:46.759
 For God's people in this psalm.

00:25:46.759 --> 00:25:49.759
 If you were to come to the Lord every day in prayer,

00:25:49.759 --> 00:25:54.759
 Just come with one thing to give thanks for every day over 10 years.

00:25:54.759 --> 00:26:02.759
 That would be a total of 3,650 things that you've thanked God for over these 10 years.

00:26:02.759 --> 00:26:06.759
 And to some that might sound a lot.

00:26:06.759 --> 00:26:11.759
 3,650 things that you've thanked God for.

00:26:11.759 --> 00:26:13.759
 Sounds a lot.

00:26:13.759 --> 00:26:19.759
 And yet it doesn't come close to the number of things that we have to thank God for.

00:26:19.759 --> 00:26:23.759
 We could spend every day in prayer, all day in prayer.

00:26:23.759 --> 00:26:28.759
 And we just cannot get through the number of things that we can give thanks to God for.

00:26:28.759 --> 00:26:33.759
 As the psalmist said there in Psalm 139,

00:26:33.759 --> 00:26:34.759
 If I should count them,

00:26:34.759 --> 00:26:37.759
 Than the sand they more in number be.

00:26:37.759 --> 00:26:40.759
 The things that we have to give thanks to God for,

00:26:40.759 --> 00:26:42.759
 They're more than the grains of sand.

00:26:42.759 --> 00:26:43.759
 And you think to yourself,

00:26:43.759 --> 00:26:46.759
 How many grains of sand on the beaches around our island here?

00:26:46.759 --> 00:26:50.759
 Just how numberless the things of God are.

00:26:50.759 --> 00:26:53.759
 The same in Psalm 40, verse 5, it says,

00:26:53.759 --> 00:26:57.759
 The wonders you have done, O Lord, how many and how great they are.

00:26:57.759 --> 00:27:03.759
 Your plans for us are far beyond our power to number or declare.

00:27:03.759 --> 00:27:09.759
 We can never cease to give thanks to God for all that He has done for us,

00:27:09.759 --> 00:27:11.759
 His benefits towards us.

00:27:11.759 --> 00:27:13.759
 And yet we do forget.

00:27:13.759 --> 00:27:16.759
 That's the reality of the people that we are.

00:27:16.759 --> 00:27:18.759
 We do forget His benefits.

00:27:18.759 --> 00:27:22.759
 The psalm here is showing us a psalm of David,

00:27:22.759 --> 00:27:28.759
 Who himself was forgetful of the benefits that God had given to him in so many different ways.

00:27:28.759 --> 00:27:36.759
 In some ways, he's reminding himself and reminding us not to forget the benefits of God.

00:27:36.759 --> 00:27:41.759
 And sometimes it takes something to make us just count our blessings.

00:27:41.759 --> 00:27:46.759
 A reminder somewhere along the way to remind us, count our blessings.

00:27:46.759 --> 00:27:49.759
 Remember them, how many they are.

00:27:49.759 --> 00:27:52.759
 One Christian woman said she was reminded, she was a nurse.

00:27:52.759 --> 00:27:54.759
 She worked in a hospital.

00:27:54.759 --> 00:27:57.759
 She was working with young people.

00:27:57.759 --> 00:28:00.759
 And very often these young people were very ill.

00:28:00.759 --> 00:28:06.759
 And she was reminded this day of just how she so often would feel ungrateful.

00:28:06.759 --> 00:28:08.759
 And it was so wrong.

00:28:08.759 --> 00:28:11.759
 When she realized just what other people were going through.

00:28:11.759 --> 00:28:14.759
 And one day she was reminded of it in a powerful way.

00:28:14.759 --> 00:28:18.759
 When this young girl was coming up to her eighth birthday.

00:28:18.759 --> 00:28:21.759
 And she was unwell and she was asked,

00:28:21.759 --> 00:28:22.759
 What would you want?

00:28:22.759 --> 00:28:24.759
 What do you want for your birthday?

00:28:24.759 --> 00:28:28.759
 And the little girl just paused for a moment and says,

00:28:28.759 --> 00:28:29.759
 I don't know.

00:28:29.759 --> 00:28:31.759
 And she started thinking to herself.

00:28:31.759 --> 00:28:34.759
 She said, well I've got two sticker books.

00:28:34.759 --> 00:28:36.759
 And I've got a beautiful doll.

00:28:36.759 --> 00:28:39.759
 I can't think of anything else.

00:28:39.759 --> 00:28:41.759
 I think I've got everything that I need.

00:28:41.759 --> 00:28:49.759
 And just that simple way was a reminder to this Christian woman of how much she had herself in Christ.

00:28:49.759 --> 00:28:53.759
 So much of it is like the simple things of life.

00:28:53.759 --> 00:28:58.759
 And yet they are the blessings that Christ give to us that we so often forget.

00:28:58.759 --> 00:29:02.759
 That they are the benefits that the Lord has given to us.

00:29:02.759 --> 00:29:08.759
 And so our thanksgiving, our thankfulness is not on what we want as such always.

00:29:08.759 --> 00:29:11.759
 It's more on just what we have.

00:29:11.759 --> 00:29:15.759
 And the things that we have to give thanks for.

00:29:15.759 --> 00:29:19.759
 And so as we come to the conclusion of this psalm,

00:29:19.759 --> 00:29:23.759
 I want us to see that we're taking that thought with us.

00:29:23.759 --> 00:29:38.759
 What this psalm wants us to realize and to continue to go forward in is this understanding and this knowledge to come back to this psalm again and again and think to ourselves, what are our benefits?

00:29:38.759 --> 00:29:44.759
 Let us not forget the benefits that the Lord has given to us.

00:29:44.759 --> 00:29:47.759
 They are more than can be numbered.

00:29:47.759 --> 00:29:52.759
 So it's not a case of concluding our study in this psalm.

00:29:52.759 --> 00:29:57.759
 It's hopefully just a going on in our study of this psalm.

00:29:57.759 --> 00:30:02.759
 By coming back to it again and again, we see these benefits.

00:30:02.759 --> 00:30:05.759
 When we sing this psalm, when we read this psalm in our own time,

00:30:05.759 --> 00:30:12.759
 and we can do it again and again because it's so worth coming back to or listening to it being sung.

00:30:12.759 --> 00:30:17.759
 We see these words that we can take with us day by day.

00:30:17.759 --> 00:30:21.759
 The benefits that we are so forgetful of.

00:30:21.759 --> 00:30:24.759
 Let us not forget these benefits.

00:30:24.759 --> 00:30:32.759
 And what's interesting about the word, just to go back to verse 2 for a moment before we come into the benefits we're looking at this evening,

00:30:32.759 --> 00:30:36.759
 is the word itself, benefits, that we see here in this psalm.

00:30:36.759 --> 00:30:38.759
 Not forget all his benefits.

00:30:38.759 --> 00:30:43.759
 It's a word that in the original language would have a root.

00:30:43.759 --> 00:30:47.759
 I'm not going to try and show off any Hebrew because I don't have it.

00:30:47.759 --> 00:30:51.759
 But looking into the word, you see the words have roots.

00:30:51.759 --> 00:30:55.759
 And they would often be connected to other words.

00:30:55.759 --> 00:31:01.759
 And when you look at the root of benefits, it's another word it's connected to is kamos.

00:31:01.759 --> 00:31:06.759
 And you say to yourself, where's the connection there?

00:31:06.759 --> 00:31:11.759
 Well, the connection was in just the longevity of these benefits.

00:31:11.759 --> 00:31:22.759
 And when you think of the camel, it was the length of time the camel could sustain itself in difficult situations, in difficult conditions.

00:31:22.759 --> 00:31:26.759
 And the Old Testament people would be very familiar with this.

00:31:26.759 --> 00:31:29.759
 They would see it in their day to day experience.

00:31:29.759 --> 00:31:38.759
 The camel was known as the king or the ship of the desert it was called.

00:31:38.759 --> 00:31:49.759
 Because it could sustain long journeys without food and water in hot climates and carry great burdens on it.

00:31:49.759 --> 00:31:52.759
 And so this ability to keep going.

00:31:52.759 --> 00:31:55.759
 And that's the root behind this word as well.

00:31:55.759 --> 00:31:58.759
 The benefits are the longevity of them.

00:31:58.759 --> 00:32:02.759
 And how they carry, how they keep us and keep us going.

00:32:02.759 --> 00:32:04.759
 They sustain us.

00:32:04.759 --> 00:32:10.759
 And the other thing about camels was as well as being great burden bearers, if you like,

00:32:10.759 --> 00:32:13.759
 they were also a measure of wealth.

00:32:13.759 --> 00:32:20.759
 So that if you had many camels, your wealth was often counted in how many camels you owned.

00:32:20.759 --> 00:32:27.759
 And so when you tie that back to the word benefits that we have here, and not forget the benefits of the Lord,

00:32:27.759 --> 00:32:30.759
 you see these two things.

00:32:30.759 --> 00:32:34.759
 How God is able to carry the Lord's people.

00:32:34.759 --> 00:32:38.759
 All his benefits to us that keep us going.

00:32:38.759 --> 00:32:45.759
 So often through life's barren deserts, it is the Lord that sustains us and takes us to glory.

00:32:45.759 --> 00:32:52.759
 But also when we see the benefits that we have, we see just like the camel shows riches of people,

00:32:52.759 --> 00:32:56.759
 that when we enjoy the benefits of God that we are rich beyond measure.

00:32:56.759 --> 00:32:59.759
 So there are these things, these benefits.

00:32:59.759 --> 00:33:02.759
 They are God's keeping of us.

00:33:02.759 --> 00:33:08.759
 His sustaining power towards us and the riches that we have through him.

00:33:08.759 --> 00:33:14.759
 And so we want to just go into these verses from verse 14 to the end of the psalm.

00:33:14.759 --> 00:33:17.759
 Thinking back to the last time we looked at this psalm,

00:33:17.759 --> 00:33:25.759
 we thought of how Charles Spurgeon had described it as a mountain top of a psalm in the midst of all the others.

00:33:25.759 --> 00:33:30.759
 How there are psalms that we see can help us when we are down in the valley,

00:33:30.759 --> 00:33:32.759
 when things are going hard for us.

00:33:32.759 --> 00:33:37.759
 And we can see the other psalms are kind of lifting us up out of the valley.

00:33:37.759 --> 00:33:40.759
 Well, this psalm is like coming to the mountain top,

00:33:40.759 --> 00:33:42.759
 where you see it as above everything else.

00:33:42.759 --> 00:33:47.759
 It's just a psalm looking out and seeing everything around and just praising God,

00:33:47.759 --> 00:33:52.759
 giving praise to God for all the benefits that we have.

00:33:52.759 --> 00:33:57.759
 And so there's four I want to look at this evening in these verses.

00:33:57.759 --> 00:34:02.759
 The first is his knowledge of us, the benefit that we have in that.

00:34:02.759 --> 00:34:05.759
 The second is his steadfast love.

00:34:05.759 --> 00:34:12.760
 Then we see his kingdom rule and then finally his everlasting praise.

00:34:12.760 --> 00:34:14.760
 So we have these four.

00:34:14.760 --> 00:34:18.760
 First of all, we want to look at his knowledge of us.

00:34:18.760 --> 00:34:21.760
 When you think of David, the author of the psalm,

00:34:21.760 --> 00:34:27.760
 in his life he had much wealth and power and authority over others.

00:34:27.760 --> 00:34:34.760
 But as he looks in this psalm, you see him almost just surveying his life in a different way.

00:34:34.760 --> 00:34:40.760
 Not looking at his riches as money and property and all of these things,

00:34:40.760 --> 00:34:43.760
 but the benefits that he has from the Lord.

00:34:43.760 --> 00:34:48.760
 And what he's reflecting on is not looking at his strength,

00:34:48.760 --> 00:34:53.760
 but we find him here in verse 14 looking more to his weakness.

00:34:53.760 --> 00:34:56.760
 Looking to his weakness.

00:34:56.760 --> 00:34:59.760
 And you see that when it says,

00:34:59.760 --> 00:35:03.760
 For he knows our frame, he remembers that we are dust.

00:35:03.760 --> 00:35:06.760
 As for man, his days are like grass.

00:35:06.760 --> 00:35:12.760
 He flourishes like a flower in the field and then the wind passes over it and it is gone.

00:35:12.760 --> 00:35:16.760
 It's place, it knows its place no more.

00:35:16.760 --> 00:35:23.760
 And so you see here David kind of reflecting on how quickly life goes by.

00:35:23.760 --> 00:35:29.760
 And how in our strength that we see so often we're actually just frail creatures.

00:35:29.760 --> 00:35:32.760
 We all know it, I'm sure.

00:35:32.760 --> 00:35:33.760
 We go through life.

00:35:33.760 --> 00:35:39.760
 I guess if you're young here, you're not thinking this far ahead of not being able to do things.

00:35:39.760 --> 00:35:46.760
 But you find that as life goes on, the older you get, the more you feel it in your bodies.

00:35:46.760 --> 00:35:52.760
 The things that you could do so easily in the past, they become harder to do.

00:35:52.760 --> 00:35:57.760
 Or sometimes they don't just take longer, you just can't do them.

00:35:57.760 --> 00:36:00.760
 It's the reality of our lives.

00:36:00.760 --> 00:36:04.760
 It's the reality of the change that we see in our bodies.

00:36:04.760 --> 00:36:07.760
 And this is the experience of David here.

00:36:07.760 --> 00:36:12.760
 And here he's reflecting and he's seeing we are dust.

00:36:12.760 --> 00:36:14.760
 We are not immortal.

00:36:14.760 --> 00:36:16.760
 We are frail creatures.

00:36:16.760 --> 00:36:19.760
 We are just here for a short time.

00:36:19.760 --> 00:36:25.760
 And so you say to yourself, well, where's the benefits in this, you might ask?

00:36:25.760 --> 00:36:28.760
 How do we see this as a benefit?

00:36:28.760 --> 00:36:40.760
 Well, it's not in what we are as we grow old in that sense that we find ourselves failing in different ways, losing our strength, losing abilities in different things.

00:36:40.760 --> 00:36:44.760
 It's what we see at the beginning of verse 14.

00:36:44.760 --> 00:36:49.760
 And it says, for he knows our frame.

00:36:49.760 --> 00:36:51.760
 He knows.

00:36:51.760 --> 00:36:54.760
 He knows everything about us.

00:36:54.760 --> 00:36:56.760
 He knows our frailties.

00:36:56.760 --> 00:36:58.760
 He knows we are dust.

00:36:58.760 --> 00:37:01.760
 He knows our days are numbered.

00:37:01.760 --> 00:37:06.760
 And yet in that, there is great benefit.

00:37:06.760 --> 00:37:09.760
 Because the Lord is the one who is keeping us.

00:37:09.760 --> 00:37:16.760
 The Lord is the one who has provided for us in all of these things, in all of life.

00:37:16.760 --> 00:37:18.760
 Our days are numbered.

00:37:18.760 --> 00:37:21.760
 They are like grass, flourish for a time.

00:37:21.760 --> 00:37:24.760
 And then the wind passes over and they're gone.

00:37:26.760 --> 00:37:29.760
 But that's just for this life.

00:37:29.760 --> 00:37:33.760
 Because the Lord has a knowledge of us.

00:37:33.760 --> 00:37:38.760
 And day by day, his knowledge of us is in this sense that he keeps us.

00:37:38.760 --> 00:37:41.760
 He keeps us going.

00:37:41.760 --> 00:37:45.760
 And so that day by day, we can see the Lord's hand upon us.

00:37:45.760 --> 00:37:50.760
 When we're young, we see it in the help and the guidance that he gives us.

00:37:50.760 --> 00:37:55.760
 We think of young people you've just gone through, times of prelims just now.

00:37:55.760 --> 00:37:58.760
 And hope you've been praying as you've been going through them.

00:37:58.760 --> 00:38:00.760
 And you've been prayed for as you've been going through them.

00:38:00.760 --> 00:38:04.760
 And that you can look back and see, well, the Lord helped me.

00:38:04.760 --> 00:38:09.760
 Maybe it was a question you were praying about that you hoped it would come up and it did.

00:38:09.760 --> 00:38:13.760
 Or that something would come back to you in the middle of an exam.

00:38:13.760 --> 00:38:16.760
 And you were reminded of and you were able to answer that question.

00:38:16.760 --> 00:38:18.760
 The Lord helps us.

00:38:18.760 --> 00:38:22.760
 And so it goes on in all of our days.

00:38:22.760 --> 00:38:25.760
 Martin Luther once put it like this.

00:38:25.760 --> 00:38:30.760
 He said, God's wonderful works which happen daily are so lightly esteemed.

00:38:30.760 --> 00:38:33.760
 Not because they are not important.

00:38:33.760 --> 00:38:39.760
 But because they happen so constantly and without interruption.

00:38:39.760 --> 00:38:44.760
 In other words, it's these things that just happen every day.

00:38:44.760 --> 00:38:47.760
 But we don't see them as from God.

00:38:47.760 --> 00:38:53.760
 And he goes on to say, man is used to the miracle that God rules the world and upholds all creation.

00:38:53.760 --> 00:39:00.760
 And because things daily run their appointed course, it seems insignificant.

00:39:00.760 --> 00:39:09.760
 And how much do we take for granted and yet we should see it as the gracious benefits of God.

00:39:09.760 --> 00:39:12.760
 Because he knows our frame.

00:39:12.760 --> 00:39:14.760
 He knows our frailties.

00:39:14.760 --> 00:39:16.760
 He knows our weaknesses.

00:39:16.760 --> 00:39:21.760
 And yet day by day he supplies for us.

00:39:21.760 --> 00:39:26.760
 Just think of that passage that we read in the Gospel of Luke.

00:39:26.760 --> 00:39:30.760
 Ten lepers met with Jesus.

00:39:30.760 --> 00:39:32.760
 And they asked for mercy.

00:39:32.760 --> 00:39:37.760
 And Jesus said, go and present yourselves to the priests.

00:39:37.760 --> 00:39:40.760
 And as they went, they were all healed.

00:39:40.760 --> 00:39:42.760
 All ten.

00:39:42.760 --> 00:39:46.760
 But only one came back.

00:39:46.760 --> 00:39:51.760
 Only one came back to give thanks to Jesus.

00:39:51.760 --> 00:39:53.760
 What of the rest?

00:39:53.760 --> 00:39:57.760
 They just carried on with their lives.

00:39:57.760 --> 00:40:01.760
 And so often that is the way it is for us.

00:40:01.760 --> 00:40:05.760
 The little things in life that we should see from God, we forget.

00:40:05.760 --> 00:40:09.760
 And we just carry on as if it was from ourselves.

00:40:09.760 --> 00:40:13.760
 Somebody once wrote about that passage about the healing of the lepers.

00:40:13.760 --> 00:40:18.760
 And as to what happened to the other nine, it's obviously speculating.

00:40:18.760 --> 00:40:19.760
 It's not, we don't know.

00:40:19.760 --> 00:40:22.760
 But somebody put it like this.

00:40:22.760 --> 00:40:25.760
 One waited to see if the cure was real.

00:40:25.760 --> 00:40:29.760
 One waited to see if it would last.

00:40:29.760 --> 00:40:32.760
 One said he would see Jesus later.

00:40:32.760 --> 00:40:36.760
 One decided that he had never had leprosy.

00:40:36.760 --> 00:40:39.760
 One said he would have gotten well anyway.

00:40:39.760 --> 00:40:41.760
 One gave glory to the priests.

00:40:41.760 --> 00:40:45.760
 One said, well, Jesus didn't really do anything.

00:40:45.760 --> 00:40:48.760
 One said any rabbi could have done it.

00:40:48.760 --> 00:40:51.760
 And one said, I was already on the mend.

00:40:51.760 --> 00:40:54.760
 Now, it's just speculating.

00:40:54.760 --> 00:40:58.760
 But you can see it in our own attitude when things happen.

00:40:58.760 --> 00:41:01.760
 We maybe pray and ask God for help.

00:41:01.760 --> 00:41:03.760
 And we say, well, I could have done it myself anyway.

00:41:03.760 --> 00:41:05.760
 It was going to happen that way anyway.

00:41:05.760 --> 00:41:07.760
 We make our excuses.

00:41:07.760 --> 00:41:11.760
 We forget the benefits that the Lord gives to us.

00:41:11.760 --> 00:41:21.760
 And so, David here is reminding us, in our lives, God has a knowledge of us like no one else.

00:41:21.760 --> 00:41:23.760
 He knows our frame.

00:41:23.760 --> 00:41:27.760
 He knows everything that we need.

00:41:27.760 --> 00:41:34.760
 And we have benefits beyond anything when we put our trust in God.

00:41:34.760 --> 00:41:45.760
 In the shorter catechism, there's a number of questions in the 30 section of the shorter catechism, between 32 and 40 there.

00:41:45.760 --> 00:41:49.760
 And it speaks about the benefits that the Lord's people have.

00:41:49.760 --> 00:41:52.760
 And read through it in your own time at some point.

00:41:52.760 --> 00:41:55.760
 If you don't have a catechism, ask me about it.

00:41:55.760 --> 00:41:57.760
 I'll share one with you.

00:41:57.760 --> 00:41:59.760
 Here's question 36.

00:41:59.760 --> 00:42:07.760
 It says, what are the benefits which in this life do accompany or flow from justification, adoption, and sanctification?

00:42:07.760 --> 00:42:15.760
 Now, these three things, justification, adoption, and sanctification, are us coming into a relationship with God.

00:42:15.760 --> 00:42:26.760
 Being made right with God, being brought into a family of God, adopted, and sanctification continually being made right in the eyes of God.

00:42:26.760 --> 00:42:27.760
 But the answer says this.

00:42:27.760 --> 00:42:44.760
 The benefits which in this life do accompany or flow from these three are assurance of God's love, peace of conscience, joy in the Holy Ghost, increase of grace, and perseverance to the end.

00:42:44.760 --> 00:43:09.760
 So much of that we have on a daily basis that we just take for granted.

00:43:09.760 --> 00:43:21.760
 But let's not forget that it's because of the great knowledge that God has of us and all of our needs that he daily gives us these benefits.

00:43:21.760 --> 00:43:23.760
 His knowledge of us.

00:43:23.760 --> 00:43:27.760
 The second thing we see is his steadfast love.

00:43:27.760 --> 00:43:28.760
 Love.

00:43:28.760 --> 00:43:34.760
 Just as God has that wonderful knowledge of us and such a great benefit.

00:43:34.760 --> 00:43:40.760
 And then we see in verse 17, it says how it starts, but.

00:43:40.760 --> 00:43:43.760
 So again, it's connected to what's just passed there.

00:43:43.760 --> 00:43:56.760
 He knows us and he knows our weakness, but it says the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him.

00:43:56.760 --> 00:44:03.760
 So again, we're reminded here of, yes, our frailties and our weaknesses, we are but dust.

00:44:03.760 --> 00:44:07.760
 But God's love is steadfast.

00:44:07.760 --> 00:44:10.760
 And it's from everlasting to everlasting.

00:44:10.760 --> 00:44:12.760
 It's without end.

00:44:12.760 --> 00:44:18.760
 And this is what we have when we trust in the Lord Jesus.

00:44:18.760 --> 00:44:23.760
 1 Corinthians 15 speaks of it in this way in verse 19.

00:44:23.760 --> 00:44:27.760
 In Christ, we have hope in this life only.

00:44:27.760 --> 00:44:30.760
 We are of all people most to be pitied.

00:44:30.760 --> 00:44:32.760
 It's not just for now.

00:44:32.760 --> 00:44:35.760
 But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead.

00:44:35.760 --> 00:44:38.760
 The first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

00:44:38.760 --> 00:44:44.760
 For as by man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.

00:44:44.760 --> 00:44:51.760
 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all are made alive.

00:44:51.760 --> 00:45:01.760
 And so as we think of the steadfast love of God, it's in the hope that Christ gives to us.

00:45:01.760 --> 00:45:04.760
 That it's from everlasting to everlasting.

00:45:04.760 --> 00:45:06.760
 Without end.

00:45:06.760 --> 00:45:15.760
 And therefore, if we're thinking of the steadfast love of God and the benefits that we have through it, where do we have to look?

00:45:15.760 --> 00:45:22.760
 We have to look to the steadfast love of God as we see it on the cross.

00:45:22.760 --> 00:45:30.760
 As somebody put it, before we think of the coming King, we must first mention the death of the Lamb.

00:45:30.760 --> 00:45:35.760
 And so yes, we're looking to the King coming ultimately.

00:45:35.760 --> 00:45:40.760
 But before we think of that, we have to think of the Lamb who was slain.

00:45:40.760 --> 00:45:45.760
 The Lamb where the steadfast love of God was seen completely.

00:45:45.760 --> 00:45:50.760
 That he would give his life for us.

00:45:50.760 --> 00:45:57.760
 That in him giving his life for us, we might have that hope of eternal life in him.

00:45:57.760 --> 00:46:08.760
 And again, you see this in the shorter Catechism, where it speaks about the benefits that believers receive from Christ at death.

00:46:08.760 --> 00:46:12.760
 So we have that reality of our frame is dust.

00:46:12.760 --> 00:46:17.760
 But his steadfast love is from everlasting to everlasting.

00:46:17.760 --> 00:46:20.760
 And how is it tied together?

00:46:20.760 --> 00:46:23.760
 Well, it's in the hope of the resurrection.

00:46:23.760 --> 00:46:27.760
 It's not just for this life that these benefits are.

00:46:27.760 --> 00:46:30.760
 And the Catechism puts it like this.

00:46:30.760 --> 00:46:35.760
 The souls of believers are at their death made perfect in holiness.

00:46:35.760 --> 00:46:38.760
 And do immediately pass into glory.

00:46:38.760 --> 00:46:45.760
 And their bodies, being still united to Christ, do rest in their graves till the resurrection.

00:46:45.760 --> 00:46:49.760
 And you see there the benefits of believers who are in Christ.

00:46:49.760 --> 00:46:54.760
 Even at death, they immediately made perfect in holiness.

00:46:54.760 --> 00:46:55.760
 Excuse me.

00:46:58.760 --> 00:47:06.760
 And so here we see the benefits that are ours in Christ to bore our sin on the tree.

00:47:06.760 --> 00:47:10.760
 It's a poem by Francis Xavier.

00:47:10.760 --> 00:47:13.760
 It's been translated into English.

00:47:13.760 --> 00:47:18.760
 And it's wonderful words that just remind us of how we can look to the Lord Jesus.

00:47:18.760 --> 00:47:20.760
 And he says this,

00:47:20.760 --> 00:47:49.760
 Then why, O blessed Jesus Christ, should I not love thee well, not in the hope of winning heaven or not of escaping hell?

00:47:49.760 --> 00:47:54.760
 Not from the hope of gaining a reward, not seeking a reward.

00:47:54.760 --> 00:48:01.760
 But as thyself has loved me, O ever loving Lord, so would I love thee, dearest Lord.

00:48:01.760 --> 00:48:09.760
 And in thy praise will sing, solely because thou art my God and my most loving King.

00:48:09.760 --> 00:48:15.760
 So we see there what he has done for us on the cross.

00:48:15.760 --> 00:48:25.760
 And it's not for any reward that we look for ourselves, but to give praise and glory to him, because he is our God.

00:48:25.760 --> 00:48:28.760
 He is our King.

00:48:28.760 --> 00:48:34.760
 The Lamb that was slain is ultimately the King of the world.

00:48:34.760 --> 00:48:37.760
 And so we look forward to this King coming.

00:48:37.760 --> 00:48:44.760
 The King who came down and gave himself will come again to establish his rule finally.

00:48:44.760 --> 00:48:49.760
 And that's the third benefit that we're led into here.

00:48:49.760 --> 00:48:52.760
 When we see his kingdom rule.

00:48:53.760 --> 00:48:56.760
 We see this in verse 19.

00:48:56.760 --> 00:49:03.760
 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens and his kingdom rules over all.

00:49:03.760 --> 00:49:18.760
 All ages and all peoples.

00:49:18.760 --> 00:49:20.780
 Kingdoms come and kingdoms go.

00:49:21.480 --> 00:49:23.280
 Kingdoms rise, kingdoms fall.

00:49:23.880 --> 00:49:25.060
 But we see in verse 19,

00:49:25.180 --> 00:49:27.840
 the Lord has established his throne in the heavens

00:49:27.840 --> 00:49:31.180
 and his kingdom rules over all,

00:49:31.240 --> 00:49:33.840
 all ages and all people.

00:49:33.840 --> 00:49:37.440
 We're reminded of that in the service here this morning,

00:49:38.320 --> 00:49:41.300
 how the kingdom of God is coming.

00:49:41.440 --> 00:49:44.140
 The church of God is being built

00:49:44.140 --> 00:49:47.340
 and it's reflected in this psalm as well.

00:49:47.340 --> 00:49:51.160
 The kingdom rules over all.

00:49:52.059 --> 00:49:55.140
 So we're looking forward to Jesus coming.

00:49:55.920 --> 00:49:57.880
 But we're reminded that up until then,

00:49:58.300 --> 00:50:01.660
 his kingdom, his sovereignty is secure.

00:50:02.480 --> 00:50:04.079
 There is no changing it.

00:50:04.440 --> 00:50:05.460
 As we heard this morning,

00:50:05.539 --> 00:50:09.400
 the gates of hell will not prevail against us.

00:50:10.579 --> 00:50:11.900
 And the question could be asked,

00:50:12.059 --> 00:50:14.800
 well, where is Jesus now?

00:50:14.800 --> 00:50:20.180
 And it maybe sounds like a question a child might ask,

00:50:20.240 --> 00:50:22.860
 but it's a question maybe passes our own lips.

00:50:23.400 --> 00:50:24.980
 Where is Jesus now?

00:50:26.500 --> 00:50:28.800
 Can we ask ourselves to understand

00:50:28.800 --> 00:50:32.440
 the benefits that are ours through his kingdom rule over all?

00:50:33.200 --> 00:50:33.780
 Where is he?

00:50:35.120 --> 00:50:38.120
 Well, we are told in the word of God where he is.

00:50:38.119 --> 00:50:41.339
 We are told, for example, in the book of Romans,

00:50:41.599 --> 00:50:44.920
 chapter 8, that Jesus is at the right hand of God.

00:50:46.359 --> 00:50:48.519
 And being seated at the right hand of God

00:50:48.519 --> 00:50:50.859
 means he is at the place of highest honor.

00:50:52.019 --> 00:50:55.500
 He has established the throne in the heavens.

00:50:56.059 --> 00:50:59.440
 His kingdom rules over all.

00:50:59.440 --> 00:51:03.880
 The letter to the Ephesians is something similar to say as well.

00:51:04.440 --> 00:51:06.500
 That Jesus was raised from the dead by God,

00:51:06.579 --> 00:51:10.139
 then seated at the right hand of God in the heavenly places,

00:51:10.260 --> 00:51:12.800
 far above all rule and authority.

00:51:13.679 --> 00:51:18.240
 And that God has put all these things under his feet.

00:51:19.400 --> 00:51:22.820
 His rule is from everlasting to everlasting.

00:51:23.380 --> 00:51:26.240
 His kingdom rule is over all.

00:51:26.239 --> 00:51:30.779
 So the way it is, Jesus, Jesus is at the right hand of God.

00:51:31.259 --> 00:51:32.439
 He is in charge.

00:51:33.619 --> 00:51:35.979
 And we're reminded of that in a wonderful way

00:51:35.979 --> 00:51:37.779
 in the book of Acts.

00:51:38.559 --> 00:51:40.459
 And in Acts chapter 7,

00:51:41.199 --> 00:51:43.019
 where we see Stephen.

00:51:43.959 --> 00:51:47.039
 And as Stephen was stoned to death,

00:51:47.659 --> 00:51:51.659
 what you read of there in verse 55 of Acts 7,

00:51:51.759 --> 00:51:53.299
 what does Stephen see?

00:51:53.300 --> 00:51:55.920
 Well, as he looked,

00:51:56.740 --> 00:52:01.620
 he saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

00:52:02.120 --> 00:52:02.840
 Standing.

00:52:04.039 --> 00:52:07.460
 Welcoming Stephen into his kingdom.

00:52:07.680 --> 00:52:10.860
 Welcoming Stephen home, as it were.

00:52:11.100 --> 00:52:13.700
 Stephen himself saw this.

00:52:15.000 --> 00:52:17.460
 And it's just a wonderful reminder to us

00:52:17.460 --> 00:52:19.740
 that the kingdom rule of God

00:52:19.740 --> 00:52:22.460
 is from everlasting to everlasting.

00:52:22.460 --> 00:52:25.900
 He is sovereign over all things.

00:52:26.820 --> 00:52:28.900
 Again, just to quote Charles Spurgeon,

00:52:29.000 --> 00:52:29.920
 he put it like this,

00:52:30.780 --> 00:52:32.800
 there is no attribute more comforting

00:52:32.800 --> 00:52:35.720
 to his children than that of God's sovereignty.

00:52:36.400 --> 00:52:38.679
 Under the most adverse circumstances,

00:52:38.840 --> 00:52:41.059
 in the most severe trials,

00:52:41.720 --> 00:52:43.240
 they believe that sovereignty

00:52:43.240 --> 00:52:44.960
 has ordained their afflictions.

00:52:45.340 --> 00:52:47.280
 That sovereignty overrules them

00:52:47.280 --> 00:52:50.119
 and that sovereignty will sanctify them all.

00:52:50.119 --> 00:52:52.960
 There is nothing for which the children

00:52:52.960 --> 00:52:55.099
 ought to more earnestly contend to

00:52:55.099 --> 00:52:56.940
 than the doctrine of their master

00:52:56.940 --> 00:52:58.279
 over all creation,

00:52:58.859 --> 00:53:01.000
 the kingship of God

00:53:01.000 --> 00:53:03.960
 over all the works of his own hands,

00:53:04.539 --> 00:53:05.779
 the throne of God

00:53:05.779 --> 00:53:09.159
 and his right to sit upon the throne.

00:53:09.599 --> 00:53:11.599
 For it is God upon the throne

00:53:11.599 --> 00:53:13.239
 whom we trust.

00:53:13.239 --> 00:53:16.619
 We are looking to a king,

00:53:16.619 --> 00:53:19.819
 to a king who has authority.

00:53:20.459 --> 00:53:23.500
 The Lord has established his kingdom

00:53:23.500 --> 00:53:26.339
 and we have that benefit.

00:53:27.979 --> 00:53:31.139
 The final thing we see here

00:53:31.139 --> 00:53:34.639
 is his everlasting praise.

00:53:34.639 --> 00:53:36.920
 And in some ways,

00:53:37.480 --> 00:53:40.279
 we see the psalm coming full circle here.

00:53:40.980 --> 00:53:43.019
 It begins in verse 1 with,

00:53:43.019 --> 00:53:45.739
 Bless the Lord, O my soul.

00:53:46.099 --> 00:53:49.079
 You can translate bless as praise.

00:53:50.279 --> 00:53:52.659
 Praise the Lord, O my soul.

00:53:52.699 --> 00:53:55.819
 And then verse 20 and 21, 22,

00:53:56.079 --> 00:53:59.059
 you see that phrase repeated again and again.

00:53:59.339 --> 00:54:00.480
 Bless the Lord.

00:54:01.039 --> 00:54:02.099
 Bless the Lord.

00:54:02.299 --> 00:54:03.239
 Bless the Lord.

00:54:03.239 --> 00:54:04.439
 Bless the Lord.

00:54:04.779 --> 00:54:07.439
 You have it again and again there.

00:54:08.679 --> 00:54:10.139
 And that's the great benefit,

00:54:10.559 --> 00:54:12.159
 finally, that we see here.

00:54:12.759 --> 00:54:16.679
 That the Lord is worthy to be praised.

00:54:17.879 --> 00:54:20.579
 That the Lord is worthy of all,

00:54:21.459 --> 00:54:23.919
 of all our praise.

00:54:24.459 --> 00:54:26.279
 Bless the Lord.

00:54:27.839 --> 00:54:29.619
 The shorter catechism, again,

00:54:29.919 --> 00:54:31.879
 no section of questions.

00:54:31.880 --> 00:54:34.320
 It says in question 38,

00:54:34.420 --> 00:54:36.460
 what benefits do believers receive

00:54:36.460 --> 00:54:38.099
 from Christ at the resurrection?

00:54:39.640 --> 00:54:42.340
 So we're looking ahead now eternally.

00:54:43.400 --> 00:54:43.700
 And it says,

00:54:43.780 --> 00:54:44.519
 at the resurrection,

00:54:44.800 --> 00:54:47.059
 believers being raised up in glory

00:54:47.059 --> 00:54:48.500
 shall be openly acknowledged

00:54:48.500 --> 00:54:51.079
 and acquitted in the day of judgment

00:54:51.079 --> 00:54:52.619
 and made perfectly blessed.

00:54:52.619 --> 00:54:56.619
 And the full enjoying of God

00:54:56.619 --> 00:54:59.039
 to all eternity.

00:55:00.039 --> 00:55:02.119
 Full enjoying of God

00:55:02.119 --> 00:55:04.699
 to all eternity.

00:55:05.759 --> 00:55:08.039
 And that's where this psalm leads us.

00:55:08.599 --> 00:55:10.860
 Our eternal benefit.

00:55:11.519 --> 00:55:13.279
 That we can bless the Lord

00:55:13.279 --> 00:55:15.039
 with all that we are.

00:55:15.199 --> 00:55:16.360
 Bless the Lord,

00:55:16.920 --> 00:55:18.039
 O my soul.

00:55:18.039 --> 00:55:20.980
 He is worthy of our worship.

00:55:22.119 --> 00:55:23.539
 And the question is,

00:55:24.019 --> 00:55:25.719
 is he getting it?

00:55:26.900 --> 00:55:30.579
 Is he getting all our praise?

00:55:31.599 --> 00:55:34.820
 Have we forgotten his benefits to us?

00:55:35.199 --> 00:55:38.099
 Are we forgetting them on a daily basis?

00:55:39.079 --> 00:55:40.880
 The simple things,

00:55:41.400 --> 00:55:43.559
 the little things that we take for granted,

00:55:43.659 --> 00:55:46.440
 or the big things that we see in our life.

00:55:46.440 --> 00:55:49.820
 Are we giving praise to God?

00:55:50.619 --> 00:55:54.280
 Let us not forget his benefits.

00:55:55.039 --> 00:55:57.579
 But let us give thanks to God

00:55:57.579 --> 00:56:00.700
 for all his benefits to us.

00:56:01.599 --> 00:56:03.860
 And let us especially remember

00:56:03.860 --> 00:56:06.740
 the benefits that we have for life

00:56:06.740 --> 00:56:08.559
 and for eternity.

00:56:09.460 --> 00:56:11.460
 The salvation that is ours

00:56:11.460 --> 00:56:13.420
 through Jesus Christ.

00:56:13.420 --> 00:56:15.820
 Bless the Lord,

00:56:16.420 --> 00:56:17.659
 O my soul.

00:56:18.820 --> 00:56:20.680
 That's all our being.

00:56:21.180 --> 00:56:22.300
 All that we are

00:56:22.300 --> 00:56:23.380
 for now

00:56:23.380 --> 00:56:25.240
 and for eternity.

00:56:26.700 --> 00:56:28.420
 Quiz question for you

00:56:28.420 --> 00:56:29.940
 without looking

00:56:29.940 --> 00:56:31.880
 to the end of the book of Psalms.

00:56:32.599 --> 00:56:34.059
 In the last psalm

00:56:34.059 --> 00:56:34.980
 in the book of Psalms,

00:56:35.079 --> 00:56:36.200
 Psalm 150

00:56:36.200 --> 00:56:37.720
 and verse 6.

00:56:37.880 --> 00:56:38.980
 What does it end with?

00:56:38.980 --> 00:56:42.740
 It ends with these words.

00:56:43.880 --> 00:56:45.519
 Let everything that has breath

00:56:45.519 --> 00:56:47.460
 praise the Lord.

00:56:48.500 --> 00:56:50.260
 Praise the Lord.

00:56:54.260 --> 00:56:56.920
 The conclusion of everything

00:56:56.920 --> 00:56:59.380
 is to give praise to God.

00:57:00.079 --> 00:57:01.699
 Because we can do nothing

00:57:01.699 --> 00:57:03.280
 apart from him.

00:57:03.280 --> 00:57:05.980
 And so when we think

00:57:05.980 --> 00:57:07.700
 of the benefits

00:57:07.700 --> 00:57:09.540
 of God to us,

00:57:10.220 --> 00:57:11.560
 what does it deserve

00:57:11.560 --> 00:57:12.500
 from us

00:57:12.500 --> 00:57:14.540
 but to praise

00:57:14.540 --> 00:57:15.780
 the Lord

00:57:15.780 --> 00:57:16.960
 now

00:57:16.960 --> 00:57:18.660
 and eternally.

00:57:19.420 --> 00:57:20.320
 Our praise

00:57:20.320 --> 00:57:21.640
 will go on.

00:57:22.600 --> 00:57:23.780
 We can look forward

00:57:23.780 --> 00:57:25.320
 to when all these benefits

00:57:25.320 --> 00:57:27.100
 will be complete.

00:57:27.700 --> 00:57:29.160
 And when we will see him

00:57:29.160 --> 00:57:30.680
 face to face.

00:57:30.679 --> 00:57:32.559
 And when we truly

00:57:32.559 --> 00:57:33.639
 we will worship him

00:57:33.639 --> 00:57:35.839
 as he is worthy of.

00:57:37.039 --> 00:57:38.179
 May we go on

00:57:38.179 --> 00:57:39.759
 remembering

00:57:39.759 --> 00:57:40.440
 how many

00:57:40.440 --> 00:57:41.960
 are our benefits.

00:57:43.000 --> 00:57:43.699
 May we go on

00:57:43.699 --> 00:57:44.299
 remembering

00:57:44.299 --> 00:57:45.379
 how many

00:57:45.379 --> 00:57:46.460
 are our camels

00:57:46.460 --> 00:57:47.259
 if you like.

00:57:48.199 --> 00:57:48.980
 How rich

00:57:48.980 --> 00:57:50.399
 we are.

00:57:51.179 --> 00:57:51.859
 And how much

00:57:51.859 --> 00:57:52.779
 we are carried

00:57:52.779 --> 00:57:54.319
 by the grace

00:57:54.319 --> 00:57:55.119
 of God.

00:57:55.460 --> 00:57:57.039
 By all his benefits

00:57:57.039 --> 00:57:57.819
 to us

00:57:57.819 --> 00:57:59.579
 on a daily basis.

00:57:59.579 --> 00:58:01.119
 let us not

00:58:01.119 --> 00:58:02.259
 forget.

00:58:03.299 --> 00:58:03.759
 And indeed

00:58:03.759 --> 00:58:04.699
 as we think of

00:58:04.699 --> 00:58:06.679
 in a fortnight's time

00:58:06.679 --> 00:58:08.480
 coming to remember

00:58:08.480 --> 00:58:10.039
 all his benefits

00:58:10.039 --> 00:58:10.779
 to us

00:58:10.779 --> 00:58:12.019
 in Christ.

00:58:13.000 --> 00:58:13.699
 What better

00:58:13.699 --> 00:58:14.299
 to do

00:58:14.299 --> 00:58:15.980
 than to remember

00:58:15.980 --> 00:58:16.759
 his death

00:58:16.759 --> 00:58:18.440
 and to give thanks

00:58:18.440 --> 00:58:18.920
 to him

00:58:18.920 --> 00:58:20.199
 who gave his life

00:58:20.199 --> 00:58:22.039
 that we might live

00:58:22.039 --> 00:58:23.500
 and to come

00:58:23.500 --> 00:58:24.799
 and obey

00:58:24.799 --> 00:58:25.559
 his command

00:58:25.559 --> 00:58:27.239
 and do this

00:58:27.239 --> 00:58:28.460
 in remembrance

00:58:28.460 --> 00:58:29.300
 of him.

00:58:30.000 --> 00:58:30.840
 To take

00:58:30.840 --> 00:58:32.240
 the bread

00:58:32.240 --> 00:58:33.740
 and to take

00:58:33.740 --> 00:58:34.380
 the wine

00:58:34.380 --> 00:58:36.079
 and to remember

00:58:36.079 --> 00:58:37.579
 the benefits

00:58:37.579 --> 00:58:38.280
 that we have

00:58:38.280 --> 00:58:39.039
 in Christ

00:58:39.039 --> 00:58:40.260
 fully

00:58:40.260 --> 00:58:41.780
 complete

00:58:41.780 --> 00:58:42.960
 in him.

00:58:43.880 --> 00:58:44.300
 May the Lord

00:58:44.300 --> 00:58:45.039
 bless us

00:58:45.039 --> 00:58:45.960
 and help us

00:58:45.960 --> 00:58:46.579
 to come back

00:58:46.579 --> 00:58:47.500
 to these benefits

00:58:47.500 --> 00:58:48.440
 daily

00:58:48.440 --> 00:58:49.119
 and see

00:58:49.119 --> 00:58:50.500
 our need of them

00:58:50.500 --> 00:58:51.679
 and the blessings

00:58:51.679 --> 00:58:52.519
 that are ours

00:58:52.519 --> 00:58:53.300
 through them.

00:58:53.360 --> 00:58:54.079
 Let us pray.

00:58:54.079 --> 00:58:57.480
 Lord our gracious

00:58:57.480 --> 00:58:58.000
 God

00:58:58.000 --> 00:58:58.960
 we do thank you

00:58:58.960 --> 00:58:59.500
 for all

00:58:59.500 --> 00:59:01.059
 the rich benefits

00:59:01.059 --> 00:59:01.860
 that are ours

00:59:01.860 --> 00:59:02.759
 through your grace

00:59:02.759 --> 00:59:03.639
 towards us

00:59:03.639 --> 00:59:04.579
 all that we have

00:59:04.579 --> 00:59:05.699
 in Christ

00:59:05.699 --> 00:59:06.940
 who gave himself

00:59:06.940 --> 00:59:07.619
 for us

00:59:07.619 --> 00:59:08.980
 all that we have

00:59:08.980 --> 00:59:09.360
 through

00:59:09.360 --> 00:59:10.779
 not just his death

00:59:10.779 --> 00:59:11.940
 but his resurrection

00:59:11.940 --> 00:59:13.039
 and all that we have

00:59:13.039 --> 00:59:14.900
 to look forward to yet

00:59:14.900 --> 00:59:16.039
 we thank you

00:59:16.039 --> 00:59:16.819
 for your reign

00:59:16.819 --> 00:59:17.719
 over us Lord

00:59:17.719 --> 00:59:18.559
 that your kingdom

00:59:18.559 --> 00:59:19.960
 is secure

00:59:19.960 --> 00:59:21.260
 and that we are

00:59:21.260 --> 00:59:22.619
 to be a people

00:59:22.619 --> 00:59:24.159
 who praise you

00:59:24.159 --> 00:59:25.440
 Lord you remember us

00:59:25.440 --> 00:59:26.760
 and we bless you

00:59:26.760 --> 00:59:27.280
 for that

00:59:27.280 --> 00:59:28.440
 so continue with us

00:59:28.440 --> 00:59:28.720
 Lord

00:59:28.720 --> 00:59:29.360
 and help us

00:59:29.360 --> 00:59:30.320
 to praise you

00:59:30.320 --> 00:59:31.820
 with all our hearts

00:59:31.820 --> 00:59:32.699
 as all we ask

00:59:32.699 --> 00:59:34.119
 we ask in Jesus name

00:59:34.119 --> 00:59:34.980
 Amen

00:59:34.980 --> 00:59:39.619
 We're going to conclude

00:59:39.619 --> 00:59:40.360
 by singing

00:59:40.360 --> 00:59:41.900
 in these verses

00:59:41.900 --> 00:59:43.519
 in Psalm 103

00:59:43.519 --> 00:59:46.019
 in the Sing Psalms version

00:59:46.019 --> 00:59:50.059
 page 136

00:59:50.059 --> 00:59:53.480
 Psalm 103

00:59:53.480 --> 00:59:54.619
 at verse 15

00:59:54.619 --> 00:59:57.360
 to the end of the psalm

00:59:57.360 --> 00:59:58.199
 the tune is

00:59:58.199 --> 00:59:59.400
 before the throne

00:59:59.400 --> 01:00:01.159
 I just want to

01:00:01.159 --> 01:00:02.280
 sing these psalms

01:00:02.280 --> 01:00:02.920
 in conclusion

01:00:02.920 --> 01:00:03.980
 just to help us

01:00:03.980 --> 01:00:04.539
 just to

01:00:04.539 --> 01:00:05.780
 to sing out

01:00:05.780 --> 01:00:06.639
 these words

01:00:06.639 --> 01:00:07.599
 to sing them

01:00:07.599 --> 01:00:08.960
 and reminding ourselves

01:00:08.960 --> 01:00:10.719
 of all that the Lord

01:00:10.719 --> 01:00:12.219
 has done for us

01:00:12.219 --> 01:00:13.199
 each human life

01:00:13.199 --> 01:00:14.219
 is like the grass

01:00:14.219 --> 01:00:15.960
 and like a meadow flower

01:00:15.960 --> 01:00:16.500
 it grows

01:00:16.500 --> 01:00:17.139
 its place

01:00:17.139 --> 01:00:18.639
 will never be recalled

01:00:18.639 --> 01:00:20.139
 once over it

01:00:20.139 --> 01:00:21.500
 the tempest flows

01:00:21.500 --> 01:00:22.940
 but everlasting

01:00:22.940 --> 01:00:24.119
 is God's love

01:00:24.119 --> 01:00:25.420
 for those who fear him

01:00:25.420 --> 01:00:26.539
 and their seed

01:00:26.539 --> 01:00:27.559
 for those who keep

01:00:27.559 --> 01:00:28.159
 his covenant

01:00:28.159 --> 01:00:29.639
 and carefully

01:00:29.639 --> 01:00:30.900
 his precepts heed

01:00:30.900 --> 01:00:31.380
 we'll sing

01:00:31.380 --> 01:00:32.380
 from verse 15

01:00:32.380 --> 01:00:33.940
 to the end of the psalm

01:00:33.940 --> 01:00:35.059
 to God's praise

01:00:35.059 --> 01:00:37.599
 the end of the psalm

01:00:37.599 --> 01:00:38.719
 and their seed

01:00:38.719 --> 01:00:39.599
 is the end of the psalm

01:00:39.599 --> 01:00:40.759
 and their seed

01:00:40.759 --> 01:00:40.759

01:00:40.759 --> 01:00:43.599
 will never be recalled

01:00:43.599 --> 01:00:44.199
!

01:00:44.199 --> 01:00:48.739
 and like a meadow

01:00:48.739 --> 01:00:48.739

01:00:48.739 --> 01:00:49.939
 cloud it grows

01:00:49.939 --> 01:00:52.359
 its wish

01:00:52.359 --> 01:00:55.939
 will never be recalled

01:00:55.939 --> 01:00:57.879
 once over

01:00:57.879 --> 01:01:01.879
 if the tempest blows

01:01:01.880 --> 01:01:04.559
 what ever lasting

01:01:04.559 --> 01:01:07.420
 is God's love

01:01:07.420 --> 01:01:11.420
 for those who fear him

01:01:11.420 --> 01:01:13.340
 and their seed

01:01:13.340 --> 01:01:16.059
 for those who keep

01:01:16.059 --> 01:01:18.140
 his covenant

01:01:18.139 --> 01:01:20.679
 and carefully

01:01:20.679 --> 01:01:20.679

01:01:20.679 --> 01:01:21.379
 carefully

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.379 --> 01:01:21.379

01:01:21.380 --> 01:01:51.380
 Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please

01:01:51.380 --> 01:01:58.340
 O praise the Lord, dear heavenly host,

01:01:58.720 --> 01:02:03.380
 His servants to bear for this word.

01:02:04.380 --> 01:02:09.559
 Praise God, His works to work His hell.

01:02:09.559 --> 01:02:15.119
 And you, my soul, praise the Lord.

01:02:15.480 --> 01:02:20.820
 And you, my soul, praise the Lord.

01:02:21.920 --> 01:02:24.340
 After the benediction, I'll go to the main door.

01:02:24.500 --> 01:02:25.940
 We'll close the benediction.

01:02:26.099 --> 01:02:28.760
 Now may grace, mercy, and peace from God,

01:02:29.160 --> 01:02:31.980
 Father, Son, and Holy Spirit rest upon

01:02:31.980 --> 01:02:34.840
 and abide with you all now and forevermore.

01:02:35.220 --> 01:02:35.640
 Amen.

01:02:43.559 --> 01:02:43.559

01:02:52.059 --> 01:02:54.619
 Amen.

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619

01:02:54.619 --> 01:02:54.619
