When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, 00:07:56.159 --> 00:07:58.879 you will know that its desolation is near. 00:08:00.399 --> 00:08:03.239 Then there's the promise 00:08:03.239 --> 00:08:06.199 of the coming of the Son of Man, 00:08:06.339 --> 00:08:07.419 verse 27. 00:08:08.899 --> 00:08:09.919 At that time, 00:08:10.039 --> 00:08:11.659 they will see the Son of Man 00:08:11.659 --> 00:08:15.099 coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 00:08:15.259 --> 00:08:17.479 So these are the two main events, 00:08:17.620 --> 00:08:20.539 the two headlines of chapter the temple 00:08:34.220 --> 00:08:39.120 assures us of the promised coming of Jesus, 00:08:40.060 --> 00:08:41.100 the Son of Man. 00:08:41.500 --> 00:08:44.019 One writer put it like this 00:08:44.019 --> 00:08:45.779 in connecting the two points, 00:08:46.080 --> 00:08:47.460 the two main events together. 00:08:47.460 --> 00:08:49.660 He talked of it like this. 00:08:49.820 --> 00:08:53.480 A final but distant future event, 00:08:53.519 --> 00:08:55.160 that's the coming of Jesus, 00:08:56.000 --> 00:09:00.960 is prefigured in a near and realized event, 00:09:00.960 --> 00:09:03.759 talking about the destruction of the temple. 00:09:04.200 --> 00:09:06.900 So a final and distant future event 00:09:06.900 --> 00:09:11.460 is prefigured in a near and realized event. 00:09:11.460 --> 00:09:14.460 So as Jesus is teaching here in chapter 21, 00:09:15.540 --> 00:09:16.500 as he's teaching, 00:09:16.680 --> 00:09:17.320 at the time, 00:09:17.440 --> 00:09:19.340 the temple is still standing. 00:09:19.500 --> 00:09:20.820 It's not yet destroyed. 00:09:22.100 --> 00:09:24.740 But now in 2018, 00:09:25.000 --> 00:09:27.259 as we look back and listen 00:09:27.259 --> 00:09:28.740 to what Jesus taught, 00:09:29.620 --> 00:09:32.120 well, the temple has now been destroyed. 00:09:32.920 --> 00:09:35.560 One event has already been taken place, 00:09:35.559 --> 00:10:07.480 so it's all kind of new, 00:10:07.580 --> 00:10:09.500 a brand new experience for them. 00:10:10.140 --> 00:10:12.500 So some of his disciples were remarking about, 00:10:12.940 -->
