it comes to thinking about God. 00:01:56.040 --> 00:01:59.680 But how does God describe it for us? 00:01:59.680 --> 00:02:04.200 How does God describe our relationship with Him? 00:02:04.200 --> 00:02:08.680 Because every one of us has a relationship with God. 00:02:08.680 --> 00:02:11.520 Because He is our Maker. 00:02:12.260 --> 00:02:14.680 God has made us in His image. 00:02:14.680 --> ways. 00:02:43.259 --> 00:02:47.360 But it's not how we maybe all came in here today. 00:02:47.879 --> 00:02:52.259 But how do we see God describing His relationship with us? 00:02:52.259 --> 00:02:56.859 We see it if you read throughout the whole of this psalm, Psalm 105. 00:02:57.620 --> 00:03:02.399 God describes His relationship with His people in a special way. 00:03:02.479 --> 00:03:04.479 He uses a word that's important for us. 00:03:04.799 --> 00:03:06.479 He describes it as a covenant. 00:03:06.819 --> 00:03:11.259 And that's what this psalm is describing so much for us. 00:03:11.340 --> 00:03:11.979 We haven't read it. 00:03:12.139 --> 00:03:12.959 We only read it at the beginning. 00:03:13.060 --> 00:03:15.879 But as you go through it, you see it uses that word. 00:03:15.979 --> 00:03:18.819 In verse 8, He remembers His covenant forever. 00:03:18.819 --> 00:03:22.039 It's about relationship and a covenant. 00:03:22.259 --> 00:03:23.299 Covenant relationship. 00:03:23.959 --> 00:03:26.599 What is a covenant relationship? 00:03:27.340 --> 00:03:29.620 Well, in some ways we could look at it like this. 00:03:29.719 --> 00:03:36.560 It's two parties who are pledging an obedience, an allegiance to one another. 00:03:37.379 --> 00:03:39.060 Obedience to one another. 00:03:39.139 --> 00:03:42.699 We can look at it in a sense of the things that we know in this world. 00:03:43.159 --> 00:03:45.560 Say, for example, a phone contract. 00:03:46.060 --> 00:03:49.180 Many of you, I'm sure, will have a phone contract. 00:03:49.180 --> 00:03:52.840 You enter into a service with a company. 00:03:53.360 --> 00:03:54.719 They give you a service. 00:03:54.840 --> 00:03:58.540 They give you a line, a number, access to it. 00:03:58.640 --> 00:04:00.780 And you pay for that. 00:04:01.439 --> 00:04:04.060 But it can come to an end. 00:04:04.460 --> 00:04:08.640 If you fail to pay, that service ends. 00:04:09.080 --> 00:04:10.100 That's a contract. --> 00:04:26.759 Where we have failed on our part so often to be faithful to God, to worship Him aright. 00:04:27.439 --> 00:04:32.040 And yet we could say that God keeps that line open for us. throughout Scripture. 00:04:43.720 --> 00:04:47.040 When you go back to the very beginning of the Bible, to the book of Genesis, 00:04:47.240 --> 00:04:54.460 you see God there going into a covenant, a relationship with His first people, Adam and Eve. 00:04:55.120 --> 00:05:00.320 Where He promised to be faithful to them if they were obedient to Him. 00:05:00.400 --> 00:05:02.780 But they broke their promise. 00:05:02.879 --> 00:05:04.020 They broke that covenant. 00:05:04.019 --> 00:05:05.159 They were unfaithful. 00:05:05.279 --> 00:05:07.519 But God is still faithful. 00:05:08.259 --> 00:05:15.519 And the rest of the Bible, as someone puts it, it shows God repairing that broken relationship. 00:05:16.620 --> 00:05:19.539 And in this psalm, we see a bit of that. 00:05:19.979 --> 00:05:23.579 Where God is reminding us of His promises to us. 00:05:23.939 --> 00:05:25.879 He remembers His covenant forever. 00:05:26.139 --> 00:05:29.399 He remembers His side of the agreement forever. 00:05:29.399 --> 00:05:37.419 And at the beginning of the psalm, what we're seeing is God calling a people into that relationship once again. 00:05:37.719 --> 00:05:40.479 Calling them back being taken out of Egypt into the Promised Land, 00:10:59.519 --> 00:11:04.719 delivered, provided for, kept, saved, all of these things. 00:11:05.319 --> 00:11:11.739 And now the psalm is saying it's time to acknowledge that, to see God for who He is. 00:11:12.159 --> 00:11:18.000 And as we come to worship, that should be our desire, to see God for who He is. 00:11:18.599 --> 00:11:22.059 To acknowledge ourselves, we can do nothing apart from Him. 00:11:22.059 --> 00:11:26.039 Like Paul in the book of Acts, Acts 17, verse 28 says, 00:11:26.159 --> 00:11:29.879 In Him we live, move, and have our being. 00:11:30.899 --> 00:11:33.359 Everything depends on Him. 00:11:34.379 --> 00:11:36.859 But we're a little like the rich young ruler, aren't we? 00:11:36.919 --> 00:11:38.139 Perhaps that's you today. 00:11:38.579 --> 00:11:45.179 You're living your life in your own way, by your own thoughts, wisdom, ideas, all of these things. 00:11:45.179 --> 00:11:49.259 But as you come back to God, as you come back to God's Word, 00:11:49.359 --> 00:11:53.500 you see it is none of us, nothing of what we do. 00:11:54.659 --> 00:12:00.359 From Genesis, where we see the earth was made and between, you see God's relationship with His people, 00:12:11.439 --> 00:12:14.500 that it's Him who gives everything. 00:12:15.519 --> 00:12:20.600 All that we need for life and for eternity is found 00:14:05.199 And then five years later, there's an interview that he had where he went back to one of his old grounds with Arsenal playing, sitting in the stand. 00:14:05.200 --> 00:14:08.480 And this man comes up behind him. 00:14:09.120 --> 00:14:11.660 And he turns round and sees this man. 00:14:12.500 --> 00:14:14.000 And he's just overwhelmed. 00:14:14.160 --> 00:14:19.840 It's this old PE teacher from nearly probably about 25 years previous. 00:14:19.840 --> 00:14:22.600 And he's just overcome by it all. 00:14:22.600 --> 00:14:28.800 Because here he sees the man who brought him into football, who started to teach him the ways of football. 00:14:28.860 --> 00:14:31.879 And he realized just how much he owed to this man. 00:14:31.980 --> 00:14:36.480 And one of the saddest things successful career. 00:14:49.920 --> 00:14:53.700 But here he was saying how much he owed to this man. 00:14:54.500 --> 00:14:58.300 Without whose help he would not have made it into football. 00:14:59.900 --> 00:15:07.480 Well, when we appear and see who God is, should we not be just as overwhelmed and even more? 00:15:08.379 --> 00:15:11.639 When we hear it is in him we live, move, and
