this longing. 00:04:37.000 --> 00:04:38.699 Every heart has a longing. 00:04:39.740 --> 00:04:40.500 Look at verse 1. 00:04:40.500 --> 00:04:42.279 The question on David's mind is this. 00:04:42.680 --> 00:04:45.560 Lord, who may abide in your tabernacle? 00:04:48.879 --> 00:04:52.439 King David had his army. 00:04:53.439 --> 00:04:54.560 He had his family. 00:04:55.100 --> 00:04:57.319 He was thinking about the succession to the throne. 00:04:58.720 --> 00:05:01.959 Yet he longed to be somewhere else, not in the palace. 00:05:01.959 --> 00:05:05.099 He longed to be in God's house, 00:05:05.779 --> 00:05:08.099 in that little tent on Zion, 00:05:08.439 --> 00:05:09.439 that little tabernacle. 00:05:10.259 --> 00:05:12.599 That's what his heart really longed for the most. 00:05:13.959 --> 00:05:17.139 And as king, we don't know what emotions he's feeling, 00:05:17.299 --> 00:05:20.459 but he certainly felt the responsibility over God's people. 00:05:20.979 --> 00:05:23.899 It was the king's job to provide all the provisions for the priests 00:05:23.899 --> 00:05:25.579 to be able to do their job and minister. 00:05:25.579 --> 00:05:29.000 It was the king's job to defend the borders 00:05:29.000 --> 00:05:32.659 and keep the people of God safe and stable and at peace 00:05:32.659 --> 00:05:35.099 so that they can worship their God peacefully. --> 00:05:45.899 The king was not omnipotent in Israel. 00:05:46.539 --> 00:05:47.680 The king was a vessel, 00:05:48.259 --> 00:05:51.779 and it was the Lord who had to welcome people onto his holy hill. 00:05:52.479 --> 00:05:54.199 So there David is with this tension. 00:05:54.199 --> 00:05:55.719 He's responsible and accountable, 00:05:56.240 --> 00:05:58.920 but yet he's powerless at the 00:06:09.560 --> 00:06:11.259 because it's meant to shock us 00:06:11.259 --> 00:06:12.819 and teach us something about God. 00:06:13.519 --> 00:06:16.480 And the story is about the Ark of the Covenant, 00:06:16.699 --> 00:06:19.779 which represented the presence of God with his people. 00:06:20.219 --> 00:06:21.800 And as the Ark is being transported, 00:06:21.800 --> 00:06:24.099 the oxen that are pulling this cart stumble, 00:06:24.680 --> 00:06:26.500 the Ark gets rocky and it's about to tip, 00:06:27.079 --> 00:06:29.139 and a man named Uzzah reaches out 00:06:29.139 --> 00:06:32.639 and touches the holy Ark of God's covenant. 00:06:33.519 --> 00:06:35.339 And the Lord strikes this man dead. 00:06:38.459 --> 00:06:42.079 John McKay, professor of Old Testament at and hills 00:08:28.340 --> 00:08:30.300 to become a place 00:08:30.300 --> 00:08:31.620 where idolatry would happen, 00:08:31.699 --> 00:08:33.139 where people would go up to the hilltops 00:08:33.139 --> 00:08:33.940 where the trees were 00:08:33.940 --> 00:08:36.100 and try to worship the false gods there. 00:08:36.700 --> 00:08:38.879 Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? 00:08:39.240 --> legal psalm. 00:09:12.539 --> 00:09:13.679 The theme of this psalm 00:09:13.679 --> 00:09:15.059 is the justice of God. 00:09:16.639 --> 00:09:17.579 You may dwell, 00:09:17.860 --> 00:09:18.500 you may live, 00:09:18.579 --> 00:09:19.839 you may abide with God 00:09:19.839 --> 00:09:21.399 if you do three things. 00:09:22.019 --> 00:09:22.740 In Psalm 15, 00:09:22.879 --> 00:09:23.759 it's you must walk, 00:09:24.299 --> 00:09:25.059 you must work, 00:09:25.480 --> 00:09:26.839 and you must speak 00:09:26.839 --> 00:09:28.659 according to God's standard. 00:09:29.319 --> 00:09:30.039 Look at verse 2. 00:09:30.039 --> 00:09:33.599 You must always walk uprightly. 00:09:34.259 --> 00:09:36.059 You must work righteousness. 00:09:36.839 --> 00:09:38.719 And you must speak the truth
