WEBVTT

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:07.620
 Acting on yesterday, last evening, and the vote that we have a God who so graciously cares for his people.

00:00:07.620 --> 00:00:21.219
! There in verse 4, it speaks about what is man in the midst of the heavens and the glory of God. What is man that you should give him thought, the son of man, that you to him such gracious care have brought.

00:00:21.219 --> 00:00:37.719
 But we're thankful to have a God who cares and has compassion on his people. As we turn back to Acts chapter 4, we're going to look at the section that we read here, beginning at verse 23 and down to the end of the chapter.

00:00:37.719 --> 00:01:01.299
 And what we see here is the early church and how growth came. And when you think about it, you might think, well, it must have been a time of peace, a time of freedom, a time when Christianity was just the dominant religion of the day, when it was easy to be a Christian, but it was far from it.

00:01:01.299 --> 00:01:21.340
 As you see here, there was persecution in their midst. It was coming more and more powerfully, more strongly as they were going on. But as somebody said, writing about this, persecution rather than thwarting the Christian faith, it led to its expansion.

00:01:21.340 --> 00:01:30.780
 The Christian faith expanded out to all ends of the earth. And that glorious good news of the gospel went out.

00:01:31.140 --> 00:01:45.700
 Now, a couple of weeks ago on the Sunday evening, we were looking at Colossians and just putting across that idea of what it was like to live in Colossae in the time of Paul, when there were so many different things going on.

00:01:45.700 --> 00:01:50.000
 And I mentioned other places, what would it have been like to live in certain places?

00:01:50.000 --> 00:02:00.359
 And you think to yourself, well, here's another example of what would it have been like to live here in the days of the apostles in the early church in Jerusalem,

00:02:01.280 --> 00:02:09.340
 as they were being instructed, as they were seeing the day of Pentecost, as they were seeing persecution arising.

00:02:09.340 --> 00:02:15.920
 What would it have been like to live in that place and to see these things happening?

00:02:16.420 --> 00:02:20.840
 You can enter into it in some ways, the experiences that they went through.

00:02:21.659 --> 00:02:26.379
 And especially maybe as you come into this passage when they were released, it says in verse 23,

00:02:26.500 --> 00:02:31.840
 they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and elders had said to them.

00:02:31.939 --> 00:02:36.980
 So there was a small gathering of them and they gathered to pray.

00:02:36.979 --> 00:02:43.199
 So we think about ourselves together this evening, just a small gathering of God's people.

00:02:43.379 --> 00:02:50.620
 We gather together to pray and we're in exactly the same situation as they were then.

00:02:51.159 --> 00:02:56.959
 With all that's going on around us, with all that's going on in our society, in our world,

00:02:56.959 --> 00:03:06.299
 in all that's going on, we still come to an extraordinary God, a sovereign God, a gracious God,

00:03:06.300 --> 00:03:12.160
 who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or imagine.

00:03:13.380 --> 00:03:17.040
 And they had seen extraordinary things.

00:03:17.140 --> 00:03:22.520
 When you think of the day of Pentecost, what it was like to see the Spirit poured out

00:03:22.520 --> 00:03:29.040
 and 3,000 being added to the number of those who were being saved just a chapter before.

00:03:30.040 --> 00:03:34.300
 And you think of all the healings and so much that was being seen around them.

00:03:34.300 --> 00:03:39.260
 But in the midst of that, you see, it wasn't all sunshine and roses.

00:03:39.260 --> 00:03:44.340
 There was this persecution that was coming in as well.

00:03:44.439 --> 00:03:48.560
 And so often the case that when things aren't going well or are going well,

00:03:48.700 --> 00:03:52.640
 when people are professing faith, there's always opposition.

00:03:53.920 --> 00:03:57.200
 Satan will not be inactive in these times.

00:03:57.199 --> 00:04:01.560
 He's always prowling like a roaring lion, as the word describes.

00:04:01.799 --> 00:04:10.119
 He's always there to try and devour and use any means possible to turn people against the word of God.

00:04:10.119 --> 00:04:16.659
 And so here we see that coming in a very powerful way.

00:04:18.060 --> 00:04:18.819
 Persecution.

00:04:19.539 --> 00:04:21.039
 What is it like?

00:04:21.040 --> 00:04:28.420
 In many ways, we don't know for ourselves what a serious persecution is like.

00:04:29.580 --> 00:04:33.400
 But in many ways, we see places in the world where it is so,

00:04:34.020 --> 00:04:37.140
 where God's people are persecuted for their faith.

00:04:37.200 --> 00:04:39.240
 And that means imprisonment.

00:04:39.320 --> 00:04:40.500
 It means beatings.

00:04:40.860 --> 00:04:43.439
 In some cases, it means death.

00:04:43.439 --> 00:04:47.100
 That's the nature of persecution.

00:04:47.879 --> 00:04:52.839
 When there's this active power and force against the church of God.

00:04:53.939 --> 00:04:59.480
 And perhaps we're seeing it in a small measure now, more and more in our own nation.

00:05:00.259 --> 00:05:03.959
 Subtly, dangerously, persecution coming in.

00:05:04.000 --> 00:05:09.139
 When we think of yesterday and that vote for the assisted dying bill,

00:05:09.139 --> 00:05:14.899
 how dangerous, how evil, how wicked that is.

00:05:15.740 --> 00:05:20.479
 And it's just another way of taking the gospel, the Christian faith,

00:05:20.539 --> 00:05:24.839
 how taking that out of society, taking out of our leadership, our parliaments,

00:05:24.899 --> 00:05:25.740
 and all of these things.

00:05:25.919 --> 00:05:28.219
 It's what happens when we take God out.

00:05:29.079 --> 00:05:31.659
 Anything else, it can come in.

00:05:33.339 --> 00:05:34.860
 And so it comes.

00:05:34.860 --> 00:05:39.240
 But what do we do when all of these things are going on?

00:05:40.060 --> 00:05:41.139
 Where do we go?

00:05:41.400 --> 00:05:44.420
 Where do we turn to when all of these things are happening?

00:05:44.939 --> 00:05:47.460
 That's what I want to think about this evening.

00:05:48.480 --> 00:05:50.020
 When we think of all that's going on,

00:05:50.060 --> 00:05:54.120
 all the different ideologies of our day and how it rejects the Christian faith,

00:05:54.800 --> 00:05:55.900
 where can we go?

00:05:56.520 --> 00:05:57.800
 Where can we turn to?

00:05:58.840 --> 00:06:01.080
 And that's what we see in this passage,

00:06:01.199 --> 00:06:02.939
 a reminder of where we go.

00:06:02.939 --> 00:06:06.100
 And there's three places we can turn to.

00:06:07.079 --> 00:06:11.639
 Three ways that we can make sure that we are focused on the right things.

00:06:11.819 --> 00:06:16.139
 It's natural to react with a sense of anger and frustration

00:06:16.139 --> 00:06:17.819
 in the midst of everything that's going on.

00:06:18.220 --> 00:06:20.159
 I'm sure we all feel that at times.

00:06:20.220 --> 00:06:24.819
 And even when we think of those who voted for this bill to go through,

00:06:25.300 --> 00:06:29.240
 how would you speak to one of these people if you met them outside here tonight?

00:06:30.519 --> 00:06:31.540
 Would it be with anger?

00:06:31.540 --> 00:06:33.360
 Would it be with hatred?

00:06:34.100 --> 00:06:36.120
 Would it be shouting abuse in their face?

00:06:37.300 --> 00:06:41.080
 Or would we have the courage to say something of the Lord Jesus to them?

00:06:41.400 --> 00:06:43.840
 To preach the gospel in some way and to see,

00:06:43.920 --> 00:06:47.400
 do you not see how you're going against God and the danger of that?

00:06:48.640 --> 00:06:49.840
 How do we respond?

00:06:49.839 --> 00:06:55.000
 Well, three ways that we can respond as we see in this passage.

00:06:55.799 --> 00:06:58.379
 And the first is what we are doing here tonight.

00:06:59.519 --> 00:07:02.639
 And what we see them doing here in this passage.

00:07:02.779 --> 00:07:03.599
 Where did they turn?

00:07:04.039 --> 00:07:06.219
 First of all, they turned to their own.

00:07:07.259 --> 00:07:08.659
 They turned to their own people.

00:07:09.479 --> 00:07:13.159
 They made sure that they were together as God's people.

00:07:13.160 --> 00:07:16.520
 And that's the first thing that we see here in verse 23.

00:07:17.820 --> 00:07:20.720
 When they were released, they went to their friends

00:07:20.720 --> 00:07:24.900
 and reported that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.

00:07:24.899 --> 00:07:27.859
 So they turned to their own.

00:07:27.859 --> 00:07:32.579
 When Peter and John were released from being held by the chief priests

00:07:32.579 --> 00:07:34.759
 and the rulers of the day,

00:07:35.639 --> 00:07:37.639
 they turned to their own.

00:07:38.379 --> 00:07:41.859
 To those who they were on the same page with.

00:07:41.959 --> 00:07:46.739
 To those who they were sure that they would be together in that sense of being one.

00:07:46.740 --> 00:07:51.939
 It could easily have been that they would have turned away from everything that was going on.

00:07:52.000 --> 00:07:55.379
 They could have easily thought that was a close shave.

00:07:56.180 --> 00:07:57.439
 We could have been imprisoned.

00:07:57.660 --> 00:08:01.280
 We could have been held because of what we were teaching,

00:08:01.400 --> 00:08:02.319
 what we were preaching.

00:08:02.960 --> 00:08:05.639
 And they could have said things are going to turn nasty now.

00:08:05.720 --> 00:08:07.160
 It's time to get out of this place.

00:08:07.379 --> 00:08:09.060
 Time to get away from Jerusalem.

00:08:09.480 --> 00:08:12.560
 Time to maybe find a quieter place for ourselves.

00:08:13.939 --> 00:08:16.259
 But that's not the response that they had.

00:08:17.560 --> 00:08:20.960
 Instead of thinking it's the end of their witnessing,

00:08:21.180 --> 00:08:23.879
 they realize this is just the beginning.

00:08:25.420 --> 00:08:28.600
 And for ourselves, maybe that's something we realize today as well.

00:08:29.519 --> 00:08:32.820
 This is not the end of our witness to God,

00:08:33.120 --> 00:08:36.899
 to his sovereignty, to his power, to his grace towards us.

00:08:36.940 --> 00:08:40.080
 In some ways, it's another beginning for us to realize

00:08:40.080 --> 00:08:42.460
 the slide that our nation has seen.

00:08:43.100 --> 00:08:46.519
 And that we would be turned up and stirred up together.

00:08:46.740 --> 00:08:53.519
 They turned to their own, to their brothers and sisters in Christ,

00:08:54.120 --> 00:08:57.340
 not to warn them of the need to get away,

00:08:57.340 --> 00:09:03.120
 but instead the need to be together in this.

00:09:05.560 --> 00:09:07.680
 We see that in verse 23.

00:09:08.160 --> 00:09:11.519
 Just how it speaks about that sense of friends

00:09:11.519 --> 00:09:14.280
 and being together in this place.

00:09:14.399 --> 00:09:15.519
 And when they heard it,

00:09:15.879 --> 00:09:18.820
 they lifted up their voices together.

00:09:18.820 --> 00:09:24.940
 There was a sense of togetherness in this moment.

00:09:25.600 --> 00:09:30.160
 And that's what the church, the people of God need at this time.

00:09:30.840 --> 00:09:33.900
 A sense of togetherness, a sense of oneness

00:09:33.900 --> 00:09:36.300
 in the midst of all that's going on.

00:09:36.299 --> 00:09:39.979
 When persecution arises, how are we going to react?

00:09:41.120 --> 00:09:43.000
 When we see in Matthew's gospel,

00:09:43.079 --> 00:09:46.639
 as Jesus is teaching the parable of the sword and the seed,

00:09:47.339 --> 00:09:49.199
 you see the response is there,

00:09:49.279 --> 00:09:52.019
 where the word has taken root, it bears fruit.

00:09:53.199 --> 00:09:54.399
 But it says in verse 20,

00:09:54.399 --> 00:10:14.639
 When trouble or persecution comes.

00:10:14.639 --> 00:10:17.699
 That's often the test for the Christian faith.

00:10:18.340 --> 00:10:20.960
 It can be easy to be a Christian when things are going fine,

00:10:21.039 --> 00:10:22.080
 when things are going well.

00:10:22.679 --> 00:10:26.139
 But what about when troubles and persecution arise?

00:10:27.679 --> 00:10:31.340
 That's when we find out if we are rooted in the word of God.

00:10:31.879 --> 00:10:34.379
 Because if we're not, we fall away.

00:10:35.639 --> 00:10:39.600
 What we see with the people here is that they were rooted in the word of God.

00:10:39.659 --> 00:10:41.379
 They didn't shrink away.

00:10:41.480 --> 00:10:42.399
 They didn't turn away.

00:10:42.399 --> 00:10:44.720
 They encouraged one another.

00:10:44.840 --> 00:10:47.480
 They were together in one mind.

00:10:48.439 --> 00:10:52.840
 They had all things in common, as we see as it goes on in verse 32 down there.

00:10:53.299 --> 00:10:54.579
 They had everything in common.

00:10:54.679 --> 00:10:58.139
 That word in common just means they were of one mind.

00:10:58.419 --> 00:11:02.539
 There was this bond, this strength of unity in the Christian body.

00:11:03.600 --> 00:11:05.860
 And that's what we need today.

00:11:07.360 --> 00:11:09.699
 Hebrews chapter 10 verse 23.

00:11:09.700 --> 00:11:14.040
 Again, it's just that reminder to be together as one.

00:11:14.280 --> 00:11:17.280
 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess.

00:11:17.740 --> 00:11:19.379
 For here promised is faithful.

00:11:19.480 --> 00:11:24.420
 Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

00:11:25.060 --> 00:11:28.820
 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing.

00:11:29.240 --> 00:11:31.960
 But let us encourage one another.

00:11:31.960 --> 00:11:36.660
 To bear on all the more as you see the day approaching.

00:11:36.660 --> 00:11:39.440
 To realize the days in which we live.

00:11:39.440 --> 00:11:42.639
 The day approaching there is the day of the Lord.

00:11:43.300 --> 00:11:46.700
 And to know a day is coming when judgment will come.

00:11:47.500 --> 00:11:49.920
 We all have to appear before him.

00:11:49.919 --> 00:12:00.339
 and so that stirs us on encourages us together that we continue to meet together and to encourage

00:12:00.339 --> 00:12:09.599
 one another and to remember who we are praying to these are days of great need and when it speaks

00:12:09.599 --> 00:12:17.339
 about unity here and purpose together it's not the sense and we're going to agree on everything

00:12:17.340 --> 00:12:26.160
 with everybody we know we don't we know we have different ways of looking at things and understanding

00:12:26.160 --> 00:12:35.700
 things but in the key area where we recognize who jesus christ is and his lordship over us

00:12:35.700 --> 00:12:45.759
 and our need to appear before him one day that should stir us up we don't make christian clones

00:12:45.759 --> 00:12:53.080
 as someone described it we're not all identical in our thinking and our ways but we all have christ

00:12:53.080 --> 00:13:04.879
 in common and so we're encouraged to be together we turn to one another we encourage one another

00:13:04.879 --> 00:13:14.600
 and then the second thing you see in this is that they turned to god they turned to god

00:13:14.600 --> 00:13:25.919
 in verse 24 when they heard it they lifted up their voices together to god and said sovereign lord

00:13:25.919 --> 00:13:30.120
 who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them

00:13:30.120 --> 00:13:39.719
 and when we see this we are reminded again of just who we have to come to who we offer up our prayers

00:13:39.719 --> 00:13:47.139
 to as was prayed it's not just the voices of those who are praying loudly in this place playing out loud

00:13:47.139 --> 00:13:58.799
 it's the voices of all of us together we all lift up our voices together to god we lift them up in our singing in our praise

00:13:58.799 --> 00:14:05.379
 but our voices are heard by god as we pray even as we pray in our silently in our heads

00:14:05.379 --> 00:14:18.659
 together we pray for so much but we pray to god and nothing galvanizes us in prayer more than need

00:14:18.659 --> 00:14:26.000
 and as i said earlier sometimes it's just the needs that can come to the fore we start with just a list

00:14:26.000 --> 00:14:34.399
 of needs that we have but as we're reminded here we begin with god we turn to god the sovereign

00:14:34.399 --> 00:14:43.279
 lord and in many ways we see here just how they saw god and how we are to see god as well because you

00:14:43.279 --> 00:14:52.240
 see four ways in which they turn to god in praise they praise god first for who he is

00:14:52.240 --> 00:15:00.399
 he is the reason for all their praise he is the one who created the heaven and the earth and the sea

00:15:00.399 --> 00:15:12.319
 and everything in them so we have this praise to god as who he is he is the creator of all things

00:15:12.319 --> 00:15:17.199
 but you also see how they praise god for his provision

00:15:17.199 --> 00:15:27.919
 who through the mouth of david spoke so that we see there a psalm quoted but then it goes on as well to

00:15:27.919 --> 00:15:34.799
 speak of the provision that god has made for truly in this city they were gathered together against your

00:15:34.799 --> 00:15:42.159
 holy servant jesus whom you anointed both herod and pontius pilate along with the gentiles and the

00:15:42.159 --> 00:15:48.319
 people of israel to do whatever your hand and your plan are predestined to take place

00:15:48.320 --> 00:15:57.520
 you see here god has provided and the provision was made in the midst of a world that hated

00:15:58.160 --> 00:16:07.360
 a world that hated god a world that rejected jesus a people who wanted him away and said crucify him crucify him

00:16:07.360 --> 00:16:16.000
 but yet what we see here is the people of god are praising god for the provision that was made

00:16:16.000 --> 00:16:22.399
 and we've prayed that we've heard that prayed already this evening as well the provision that has been made in

00:16:22.399 --> 00:16:33.200
 jesus christ our lord our savior the one who is able to forgive sin even my sin even your sin and the wonder of that

00:16:33.200 --> 00:16:44.560
 so they praise god together for that provision they praise god also for his power you see this in verse 28

00:16:45.759 --> 00:16:53.600
 and this is talking about god to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place

00:16:53.600 --> 00:17:05.039
 god's hand god's hand god's hand was in the midst of everything that was going on from jesus being crucified

00:17:06.160 --> 00:17:14.319
 from his resurrection from his appearing to them from his ascension up to the heavens from the pouring

00:17:14.319 --> 00:17:20.960
 out of the spirit of pentecost this was all in god's hand all of these great things but they can also say

00:17:20.960 --> 00:17:32.319
 this persecution is also in god's hands he is a god who has great power and so today as we see

00:17:32.319 --> 00:17:39.759
 all of these things taking place even the things that we know are so wrong and so wicked we still know that god's hand

00:17:40.400 --> 00:17:48.880
 is powerful that he can have a plan and a purpose in all of these things he does have a plan and a purpose

00:17:48.880 --> 00:18:01.280
 in all of these things he is a god who is powerful and he is a god of providence it speaks here about your plan

00:18:01.280 --> 00:18:11.520
 had your hand and your plan had predestined to take place all of these things are planned by god

00:18:11.519 --> 00:18:22.079
 it is in his providence that we are here today and these can be hard things for us to understand but yet

00:18:22.079 --> 00:18:32.319
 we still have this god who we can come to and who we can share with others in the 16th century he was a

00:18:32.319 --> 00:18:39.200
 minister in england by the name of hugh latimer and he was known as a great preacher of his day and he had

00:18:39.200 --> 00:18:45.759
 great great great opportunities to speak to those in power and authority do you think what it would be

00:18:45.759 --> 00:18:52.880
 like to preach to king henry the eighth i'm sure if you've heard of him at all you know his reputation

00:18:53.440 --> 00:18:59.840
 he wasn't one who suffered anybody too long if he didn't agree with them they could be dealt with and

00:18:59.840 --> 00:19:07.759
 dealt with very quickly but hugh latimer had an opportunity to preach to him and so he was pondering

00:19:07.759 --> 00:19:14.799
 what will i say he was praying about what will i preach on and the message that came to him as he

00:19:14.799 --> 00:19:20.079
 was praying over it he realized king henry the eighth is not going to like this message

00:19:22.400 --> 00:19:30.160
 but he still thought i must preach it but wasn't this was as he began to preach how he presented it

00:19:30.160 --> 00:19:38.480
 and he said latimer latimer do you remember that you are speaking before the high and mighty king henry

00:19:38.480 --> 00:19:45.600
 the eighth who has power and to command you to be sent to prison and who can have your head cut off of

00:19:45.600 --> 00:19:53.040
 it please him he was saying this out loud before him will you not take care to say nothing that will offend

00:19:53.039 --> 00:20:01.200
 royal ears so that's how he started but he paused then and continued latimer latimer do you not remember

00:20:01.200 --> 00:20:08.559
 that that you are speaking before the king of kings and the lord of lords before him at whose throne

00:20:08.559 --> 00:20:15.680
 henry the eighth will stand before him to whom one day you will have to give an account yourself

00:20:15.680 --> 00:20:25.680
 latimer latimer latimer he said be faithful to your master and declare all of god's word and so he did

00:20:26.720 --> 00:20:36.400
 he declared the word of god he had the choice to preach what king henry the eighth would have liked or

00:20:36.400 --> 00:20:47.120
 wanted to hear or wanted to hear or to preach christ and so he preached christ latimer latimer latimer was later

00:20:47.120 --> 00:20:52.080
 martyred for his faith and for his presentation of the gospel

00:20:54.880 --> 00:21:03.200
 but we have that same opportunity today for that boldness not to be afraid to present the gospel

00:21:03.200 --> 00:21:10.240
 the word of god that's what they were doing in this passage that's what they were doing in this day

00:21:11.200 --> 00:21:17.840
 that they would have boldness to continue to proclaim the word of god as you see there in verse 31

00:21:19.279 --> 00:21:28.000
 to speak the word of god with boldness let's not be afraid to speak the word of god with boldness

00:21:28.000 --> 00:21:33.839
 and what you see here is as they are together and they're recognizing who they are looking to that

00:21:33.839 --> 00:21:39.599
 they are looking to god and it says in verse 31 when they had prayed the place in which they were gathered

00:21:39.599 --> 00:21:46.880
 together was shaken and they were filled with the holy spirit and given that boldness to speak

00:21:48.319 --> 00:21:56.160
 we thank god that there are people in both the scottish parliament and westminster who are people of god

00:21:56.160 --> 00:22:05.279
 they may be few but they are praying people and we pray for them that they would be given the courage and

00:22:05.279 --> 00:22:14.320
 boldness to speak and that even as they pray that the walls of parliament would shake that the presence of

00:22:14.320 --> 00:22:21.600
 god would be a real thing to them that the fear of the lord would come upon these places come upon these

00:22:21.599 --> 00:22:27.919
 people and the decisions that they make that they would recognize we are before a mighty a sovereign god

00:22:29.039 --> 00:22:40.240
 before whom one day we will have to give account they turned to god and the final thing that we see here

00:22:40.240 --> 00:22:49.119
 is that they turned to the work how easy it would have been to lose heart how easy it would have been

00:22:49.119 --> 00:22:54.959
 when this persecution was coming when there's this threat towards them to say well we'll just have to

00:22:54.959 --> 00:23:02.799
 get back in our shells and hide away until this passes but as you see as it goes on in verse 32

00:23:04.479 --> 00:23:12.159
 they went on in faith they went on in the work and the full number of those who believed were of one heart

00:23:12.160 --> 00:23:20.160
 and soul and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own they had everything in

00:23:20.160 --> 00:23:31.360
 common there was a sense of togetherness and a sense of god's presence and a sense of need in the midst of

00:23:31.359 --> 00:23:39.679
 those days and don't we recognize that ourselves today as well when we think of those who could be so

00:23:40.959 --> 00:23:47.759
 much impacted by this vote if it was to continue and to go through and we think even of our own

00:23:47.759 --> 00:23:56.240
 community here the weak the vulnerable the aged people who we love and who we care for

00:23:56.240 --> 00:24:04.880
 should this not make sure that it stirs us up to the work the work of making sure that the gospel is

00:24:04.880 --> 00:24:13.759
 proclaimed that the good news of jesus is heard and known whether it's with young or old or middle-aged

00:24:13.759 --> 00:24:24.000
 whoever it is that these kinds of days would stir us up to make the word of god known recognized

00:24:24.000 --> 00:24:25.759
 and feared

00:24:28.799 --> 00:24:35.599
 you see it in verse 33 how it speaks there with great power the apostles were giving their testimony

00:24:35.599 --> 00:24:43.440
 to the resurrection of the lord jesus and great grace was upon them all it wasn't just a case of of

00:24:43.440 --> 00:24:49.519
 feeding the poor in that sense of that they had everything in common and no one was in need the gospel

00:24:49.519 --> 00:24:56.400
 was at the heart of it all the testimony of the resurrection of the lord jesus and the great

00:24:56.400 --> 00:25:05.759
 grace that was upon them isn't it a wonderful thing that we can know that ourselves as we turn our heart

00:25:05.759 --> 00:25:14.160
 and our hands to the work of the gospel of sharing the good news that jesus is risen that we would see

00:25:14.720 --> 00:25:25.279
 great grace come upon all in every place that we pray for in every person that we pray for in every need

00:25:25.279 --> 00:25:37.599
 that we pray for that we would see great grace upon them all we need the grace of god and isn't it wonderful

00:25:37.599 --> 00:25:48.639
 like psalm 8 says that we have a god who remembers us not as we deserve but the son of man that due to him

00:25:48.640 --> 00:25:58.960
 such gracious care have brought that we would have that sense in our hearts of the gracious care that god has

00:25:58.960 --> 00:26:09.200
 for his people so that we would show that and represent that to others because that gracious god

00:26:10.240 --> 00:26:18.080
 can make all the difference in the lives that we see around us so when we represent that gracious god

00:26:18.880 --> 00:26:29.600
 that we would do it with his grace and his compassion and his love that we would see great grace upon others

00:26:30.960 --> 00:26:39.759
 these are our difficulties they're strange times we don't know where the world is going and what's happening

00:26:39.759 --> 00:26:55.200
 but god does he has power in his hand and he has grace unlimited for all and so may we keep together

00:26:56.240 --> 00:27:05.920
 may we be found together as god's people looking to this god and doing the work of our god

00:27:05.920 --> 00:27:14.400
 to see grace upon all remembering god who is sovereign let us pray

00:27:17.920 --> 00:27:25.759
 our father in heaven we do thank you for who you are you are our lord and our god our father in heaven

00:27:26.560 --> 00:27:31.120
 you are sovereign over all you are the one who made the heavens and the earth and the sea

00:27:31.119 --> 00:27:39.039
 and all in them and we thank you lord that you remember us in all of these things that even today

00:27:39.039 --> 00:27:45.679
 that you have not forgotten us that you know every burden on our heart that you know the burden

00:27:45.680 --> 00:27:53.600
 for our people far and wide throughout our land today that you know the burden that we have to see

00:27:54.560 --> 00:28:02.080
 your grace upon us and we ask oh lord that you will not forget us that you will remember us and those who

00:28:02.080 --> 00:28:08.960
 rule over us that you might have grace and mercy upon them that you would turn their hearts oh lord to be a

00:28:08.960 --> 00:28:16.960
 people who fear the lord and that our parliaments oh lord as we have prayed already would be a place where

00:28:16.960 --> 00:28:25.600
 your wisdom might be proclaimed and where grace might be seen unknown and we pray lord that you will

00:28:26.720 --> 00:28:36.720
 intervene in these days and to turn the tide and to turn us once again towards you lord hear your praying

00:28:36.720 --> 00:28:42.319
 people we thank you that just as in the days of the acts of the apostles when they were together

00:28:42.960 --> 00:28:50.240
 in in small numbers we thank you that they were together in unity with all things in common

00:28:51.200 --> 00:28:58.720
 and we pray lord for that spirit in your people today not just as we are gathered here but as all your

00:28:58.720 --> 00:29:06.240
 people all your praying people even this evening are united so much in prayer may we find that in common

00:29:06.720 --> 00:29:14.240
 that we have that heart for our lord who has done all for us so hear our prayers and pardon our sin

00:29:14.240 --> 00:29:18.079
 that's all we ask we ask in jesus precious name amen

00:29:21.839 --> 00:29:31.200
 we're going to conclude
