00:03:47.960 --> 00:03:52.520 And so I would like to use and look at this Psalm 67, 00:03:53.740 --> 00:03:55.699 you know, that we have read earlier, 00:03:56.180 --> 00:04:00.879 because I think this Psalm really points us to 00:04:00.879 --> 00:04:07.379 one of the critical aspects of what it means to be in Christ. 00:04:07.379 --> 00:04:11.139 It points us to the core, in a sense, 00:04:11.299 --> 00:04:13.879 of what it means to be in relationship with God, 00:04:14.199 --> 00:04:17.199 and to enjoy fellowship with Him. 00:04:17.839 --> 00:04:21.379 And so let's dig in to this Psalm. 00:04:21.560 --> 00:04:25.620 And really, the first, I want us just to examine the Psalm itself, 00:04:26.219 --> 00:04:31.159 and then we will look at some of the implications of that. 00:04:31.800 --> 00:04:33.019 I love this Psalm. 00:04:33.019 --> 00:04:39.240 It's, you know, it's a very simply structured Psalm, 00:04:39.479 --> 00:04:43.699 which makes it pretty easy for us to understand. 00:04:44.279 --> 00:04:47.459 And the structure is called a chiasm. 00:04:48.759 --> 00:04:54.759 And this is a common literary tool in Hebrew writing, 00:04:54.759 --> 00:04:58.180 not just in poetry, but also in prose. 00:04:58.799 --> 00:05:01.719 But I pull this up for all you engineers. 00:05:03.019 --> 00:05:07.740 Because part of the beauty of the Psalms is in its structure. 00:05:09.019 --> 00:05:11.979 You know, it's not just the words, the flowery words, 00:05:12.079 --> 00:05:13.399 which Psalms is full of that, 00:05:14.060 --> 00:05:17.019 but the structure really points us to, 00:05:17.079 --> 00:05:21.199 and you'll see, I'm going to put a slide up here to show you, 00:05:21.620 --> 00:05:24.139 if we were going to structure this Psalm, 00:05:24.219 --> 00:05:25.879 this is what it would look like. 00:05:25.879 --> 00:05:31.019 In a chiasm, what you have is here in this Psalm, 00:05:31.100 --> 00:05:34.800 the first two verses are basically parallel 00:05:34.800 --> 00:05:37.800 and say the same thing, but in a little different way 00:05:37.800 --> 00:05:39.079 as the last two verses. 00:05:40.659 --> 00:05:45.259 And then you have verse 3 and verse 5 also parallel, 00:05:45.439 --> 00:05:48.500 but they are saying that they're exactly the same, 00:05:48.879 --> 00:05:51.600 which leads us to verse 4. 00:05:51.600 --> 00:05:55.620 And so all the structure acts like kind of a funnel 00:05:55.620 --> 00:06:00.060 pointing us to the core of what the Psalm says. 00:06:01.379 --> 00:06:03.620 And so, again, you engineers, 00:06:03.860 --> 00:06:08.480 you will rejoice in the symmetry of this Psalm. 00:06:08.860 --> 00:06:10.140 Everything's balanced. 00:06:10.139 --> 00:06:15.560 But what it points us to, again, is verse 4. 00:06:15.699 --> 00:06:19.779 So let's start at verse 4 and work our way back out. 00:06:20.959 --> 00:06:22.800 So verse 4, what's the core? 00:06:22.959 --> 00:06:24.219 What's the meaning of this? 00:06:24.860 --> 00:06:27.199 It's joy for the nations. 00:06:29.439 --> 00:06:33.279 God's intent and his purpose 00:06:33.279 --> 00:06:38.699 is that the nations, all the nations, 00:06:39.779 --> 00:06:44.519 would rejoice and know his joy. 00:06:45.179 --> 00:06:49.219 This Psalm really reflects, you know, 00:06:49.279 --> 00:06:52.439 it's a very strong missionary theme. 00:06:52.759 --> 00:06:54.959 And I love this because a lot of times 00:06:54.959 --> 00:06:56.899 we think you have to go to the New Testament 00:06:56.899 --> 00:06:59.479 to find missionary stuff in the Bible. 00:07:00.039 --> 00:07:03.119 But oh no, it's all through it. 00:07:04.159 --> 00:07:06.119 And this Psalm is such a great example. 00:07:06.759 --> 00:07:10.879 But even here, it points to the very heart of God. 00:07:11.199 --> 00:07:13.799 Because even way back in Genesis 12, 00:07:14.619 --> 00:07:16.119 when he first gives, 00:07:16.519 --> 00:07:19.659 God makes his first covenant with Abraham, 00:07:20.319 --> 00:07:21.919 at the heart of that covenant, 00:07:22.319 --> 00:07:23.099 he says, 00:07:23.179 --> 00:07:26.500 and I will bless those who bless you 00:07:26.500 --> 00:07:28.299 and him who dishonors you. 00:07:28.799 --> 00:07:29.759 I will curse it. 00:07:29.819 --> 00:07:30.879 And you all, 00:07:30.879 --> 00:07:33.480 the families of the earth 00:07:33.480 --> 00:07:35.639 will be blessed. 00:07:36.060 --> 00:07:37.860 All the families of the earth. 00:07:38.199 --> 00:07:39.079 God is saying, 00:07:39.219 --> 00:07:40.319 not just you, 00:07:41.759 --> 00:07:43.480 but you, 00:07:43.899 --> 00:07:45.240 through you, 00:07:46.439 --> 00:07:48.699 my intent, 00:07:48.839 --> 00:07:49.819 my focus, 00:07:50.819 --> 00:07:52.959 is to see blessing come to 00:07:52.959 --> 00:07:54.180 every family 00:07:54.180 --> 00:07:56.159 on the earth. 00:07:56.160 --> 00:07:58.820 And so this is his work 00:07:58.820 --> 00:08:01.400 that he's doing in Abraham. 00:08:02.540 --> 00:08:03.700 And so his promise 00:08:03.700 --> 00:08:06.360 that he's making with this one family 00:08:06.360 --> 00:08:07.220 is global 00:08:07.220 --> 00:08:09.520 from the very beginning. 00:08:09.519 --> 00:08:12.219 And so why would the nations 00:08:12.219 --> 00:08:13.159 be so joyful? 00:08:14.680 --> 00:08:15.079 Well, 00:08:15.199 --> 00:08:16.319 in that 00:08:23.199 with equity. 00:08:23.959 --> 00:08:25.259 In other words, 00:08:26.120 --> 00:08:27.539 he is just. 00:08:29.639 --> 00:08:31.799 God is just. 00:08:32.340 --> 00:08:32.579 And again,
