00:05:02.239 So Jesus bolts. 00:05:02.339 --> 00:05:02.779 He leaves. 00:05:02.859 --> 00:05:03.919 It's not his time to die. 00:05:04.459 --> 00:05:06.679 So Jesus is out of town, out of Jerusalem. 00:05:07.019 --> 00:05:09.099 And that's where we pick up in verse 11. 00:05:10.139 --> 00:05:11.599 I'll just read these first five verses. 00:05:11.759 --> 00:05:16.679 Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 00:05:16.680 --> 00:05:21.079 It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair. 00:05:21.220 --> 00:05:23.319 We'll read that account next week. 00:05:24.120 --> 00:05:25.840 Well, their brother Lazarus was ill. 00:05:26.199 --> 00:05:33.720 So the sisters sent to Jesus, who was out of town, saying, Lord, he who you love is ill. 00:05:33.800 --> 00:05:37.079 But when Jesus heard it, he said, this illness does not lead to death. 00:05:37.620 --> 00:05:38.740 It is for the glory of God. Bethany. 00:05:58.740 --> 00:06:02.740 And Jesus had a particularly unique relationship with them. 00:06:02.740 --> 00:06:11.079 What we're going to see as this unfolds is that Martha and Mary are two very different women. 00:06:12.460 --> 00:06:14.920 And they have a similar question for Jesus. 00:06:16.420 --> 00:06:22.660 In verse 5, I just want you to note, now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 00:06:22.660 --> 00:06:33.120 So right out of the gate, John is helping us to see that Jesus' motives in this whole story is one of love and of God's glory. 00:06:35.280 --> 00:06:41.220 Well, in verse 3, Mary and Martha send word to Jesus, he whom you love is ill. 00:06:41.560 --> 00:06:44.780 It's getting at a unique relationship between Jesus and Lazarus. 00:06:44.879 -->
