little word WELL, that acronym, can help us either begin or stay focused on our own personal spiritual wellness plan. 00:04:16.939 --> 00:04:20.300 Turn to Acts 2, beginning in verse 42. 00:04:20.300 --> 00:04:27.759 I want you to see where those words, worship, evangelism, learning, and loving come from. 00:04:28.579 --> 00:04:36.620 They're being lifted right out of, not exactly those words, but as you'll read the passage, I'm going to look at one other thing before we dive into it. 00:04:36.620 --> 00:04:43.620 You'll see that our purpose statement is based on what the early church was text in the New Testament 00:06:49.379 --> 00:06:54.879 for identifying and understanding the ministries that the Lord's church should be involved in. 00:06:54.879 --> 00:06:57.540 He says this passage. 00:06:58.100 --> 00:07:02.219 And he also quotes Richard Longnecker, a New Testament scholar, 00:07:02.319 --> 00:07:03.360 in his commentary on Acts. 00:07:03.600 --> 00:07:09.139 He also says they describe the habitual, ongoing practices of the early church. 00:07:10.439 --> 00:07:12.120 What many people who study this, 00:07:12.219 --> 00:07:14.959 John Stott, some of you have read his books, 00:07:15.600 --> 00:07:17.420 another New Testament scholar. 00:07:18.279 --> 00:07:20.480 Many people look at this passage of Scripture and say, 00:07:20.699 --> 00:07:23.839 this is not just something they were doing at this point in time. 00:07:23.839 --> 00:07:29.839 This is an example of how the people of God gathered together as a church, 00:07:30.060 --> 00:07:31.639 made up of individual Christians. 00:07:32.519 --> 00:07:34.319 This is how they lived. 00:07:35.139 --> 00:07:39.079 This is how they developed and grew spiritually. 00:07:39.879 --> 00:07:41.839 They worshiped. 00:07:42.059 --> 00:07:44.219 They evangelized. 00:07:44.279 --> 00:07:45.139 They shared the gospel. 00:07:46.359 --> 00:07:47.579 They learned. 00:07:48.239 --> 00:07:49.359 They studied God's Word. 00:07:49.659 --> 00:07:50.799 They listened to the apostles. 00:07:51.439 --> 00:07:52.159 And they loved. 00:07:52.160 --> 00:07:57.680 One another in a great, life-giving kind of way. they call either the priorities or purposes or objectives of the church. 00:08:22.439 --> 00:08:28.980 The chart is not as big as I wanted it to be because I wanted it there all at one time. instruction, fellowship, and evangelism. 00:09:14.899 --> 00:09:17.579 Now, I'm pointing that out to say 00:09:17.579 --> 00:09:23.519 this is not something that I or some obscure person 00:09:23.519 00:11:15.720 --> 00:11:16.759 in the New American Standard, 00:11:17.160 --> 00:11:20.200 they were continually devoting themselves 00:11:20.200 --> 00:11:21.899 to the apostles' teaching. 00:11:21.899 --> 00:11:25.179 This was not something they just did occasionally. 00:11:26.179 --> 00:11:29.699 This was something that they considered a way of life. 00:11:29.759 --> 00:11:31.279 They were serious about it. 00:11:32.159 --> 00:11:33.799 They were devoted 00:11:33.799 --> 00:11:37.220 to listening to the Word of God 00:11:37.220 --> 00:11:39.879 as it came through those apostles.
