00:01:50.819 The most important holiday. 00:01:51.340 --> 00:01:54.579 And James preached on Acts chapter 17 a few months ago. 00:01:54.640 --> 00:02:01.340 But we're going to revisit today because I think Acts 17 contains one of the best examples in the New Testament 00:02:01.340 --> 00:02:04.039 of a Chinese New Year sermon. 00:02:05.039 --> 00:02:07.620 Acts 17 is, in fact, a Chinese New Year sermon. 00:02:07.620 --> 00:02:08.560 What do I mean by that? 00:02:09.159 --> 00:02:13.640 In Acts 17, Paul addresses Greek people living in Athens. 00:02:14.120 --> 00:02:15.560 He's not talking to Chinese people. 00:02:16.120 --> 00:02:18.819 He's talking to Greek people in Athens. 00:02:19.240 --> 00:02:22.900 But he gives us an example of contextualizing the gospel. 00:02:23.280 --> 00:02:24.060 That's the truth. 00:02:24.700 --> 00:02:26.099 Jesus is Lord of all. 00:02:26.960 --> 00:02:30.780 The gospel is relevant to every people in every culture. 00:02:31.480 --> 00:02:33.819 00:03:00.379 He uses that altar as a hook to point them to Jesus. 00:03:00.519 --> 00:03:02.379 He uses what he sees in their culture. 00:03:02.459 --> 00:03:09.879 This unknown God persuade them that actually Jesus is better than all their idols because Jesus is Lord of all. 00:03:10.039 --> 00:03:11.599 And he's a God worth worshiping. 00:03:11.599 --> 00:03:16.180 In Acts 17, Paul found this unknown altar. 00:03:17.180 --> 00:03:27.079 But today, I'd like us to imagine, instead of in Athens 2,000 years ago, let's imagine if Paul were here in Hong Kong in 2026, in the year of the horse. 00:03:27.080 --> 00:03:40.060 Rather than standing at the Areopagus, imagine Paul were sitting there next to you at Tuning Fan, at Tun Bai, at the table with all your aunts and uncles celebrating as he sits around this big table, watching all these things, hearing these greetings of prosperity, 00:04:10.979 --> 00:04:15.979 what would God, what would Paul say to our culture celebrating Chinese were getting a foot massage and we were chatting with the masseuses to pass the time and also to practice our broken Mandarin to get a free 45 minute Mandarin lesson out of that same time.
