the prosecutor crying out, this person's guilty as charged. 00:03:06.219 --> 00:03:13.400 He also highlighted that Christian has the best defense team that will not lose. 00:03:14.300 --> 00:03:19.740 Christian has our Lord Jesus as our greatest defender, the greatest attorney. 00:03:20.579 --> 00:03:23.560 That is Christian's greatest assurance. 00:03:23.560 --> 00:03:32.879 I want to show you our greatest assurance today and how we overcome sin in the spirit today. 00:03:33.699 --> 00:03:36.800 So please keep your Bible in Romans chapter 8. 00:03:36.800 --> 00:03:49.260 As we are confronted and confused about being accused, Paul gave us the greatest assurance in verse 1. 00:03:50.520 --> 00:03:54.980 Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 00:03:56.120 --> 00:03:59.840 Why is it there is now no condemnation? 00:03:59.980 --> 00:04:01.180 He goes on in verse 2. 00:04:01.180 --> 00:04:10.520 Because through Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 00:04:11.280 --> 00:04:21.040 The power and authority of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the power of sin and death. The law cannot save us, but pawn us to the only one that can, our Savior Jesus. 00:05:50.319 --> 00:05:59.740 The law requires a sacrifice to be offered to fulfill its righteous requirement regarding 00:08:11.779 --> 00:08:16.620 A war raged within every Christian between the freshly and spiritual self. 00:08:18.199 --> 00:08:21.159 Struggling with sin is a reality for all Christians. 00:08:21.699 --> 00:08:23.959 But we are not alone in our struggle. 00:08:23.959 --> 00:08:30.120 Being fully human came in the likeness of sinful flesh. 00:08:30.120 --> 00:08:36.840 Our Savior Jesus was tempted in every way as we, 00:08:37.720 --> 00:08:38.879 But did not sin. 00:08:39.539 --> 00:08:41.819 And can sympathize with our weakness. 00:08:41.820 --> 00:08:46.240 So, He gave us the best counselor. 00:08:47.140 --> 00:08:49.920 Our greatest advocate, the Holy Spirit, 00:08:50.360 --> 00:08:54.500 To guide us and help us defeat sin in our life. 00:08:56.500 --> 00:09:02.200 Chapter 8 and the rest of the letter lay out what living according to the Spirit looks like. 00:09:02.200 --> 00:09:08.420 God intended for His creation to flourish and live victoriously, 00:09:08.900 --> 00:09:11.320 But not without suffering and struggles. 00:09:12.580 --> 00:09:18.020 I will highlight four points of overcoming sin with the Spirit from verse 5 to 15. 00:09:19.940 --> 00:09:25.040 Firstly, setting our mind on what the Spirit desires. 00:09:25.960 --> 00:09:27.879 Reading from verse 5 to 6. 00:09:27.879 --> 00:09:34.939 Those who live according to the fresh have their minds set on what the fresh desires. 00:09:35.460 --> 00:09:41.679 But those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 00:09:42.539 --> 00:09:45.000 The mind governed by the fresh is death, 00:09:45.419 --> 00:09:48.679 But the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 00:09:50.200 --> 00:09:53.299 In the book of John, chapter 14 to 16, 00:09:53.299 --> 00:10:00.559 Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit would teach and remind them of everything He taught. 00:10:01.719 --> 00:10:06.339 The Spirit decides for us to remember Jesus and His teaching. 00:10:07.199 --> 00:10:11.000 He is sent to help us and be with us forever. 00:10:11.899 --> 00:10:13.839 Guiding us and living with us. 00:10:14.359 --> 00:10:15.439 He is in us. 00:10:16.559 --> 00:10:20.279 The Spirit testify about Jesus to our broken world. 00:10:20.279 --> 00:10:23.959 Jesus is a gospel we proclaim. 00:10:24.759 --> 00:10:27.799 And the Spirit also help us to testify about Jesus too. 00:10:28.419 --> 00:10:34.259 His desire is to glorify Jesus and tell us all He hears and receives from Jesus. 00:10:36.240 --> 00:10:37.339 Desire Jesus. 00:10:38.199 --> 00:10:39.600 Desire life and not and cannot submit to God and His intended purpose for our life. 00:12:25.480 --> 00:12:36.139 We see from chapter 7 last Sunday that the essence of all sin is we have a deep desire to be in charge 00:12:47.399 There will be no room to please God. 00:12:47.399 --> 00:12:56.159 Far too concerned with how we can keep feeling our addiction as junkies, as repeated offenders. 00:12:58.019 --> 00:13:06.199 This second point is a very important realization and a reminder to stop us from dealing with our sin foolishly. 00:13:06.200 --> 00:13:11.580 The following may sound ridiculous, but often true for many of us. 00:13:12.580 --> 00:13:18.759 Even though God, the judge of life, has declared us not condemned and free to go, 00:13:19.660 --> 00:13:26.280 with no record of wrong against us, because a guilty record has been laid on His Son Jesus, 00:13:26.279 --> 00:13:34.100 We instead insist on living in a system of good behavior bond. 00:13:35.579 --> 00:13:39.879 Instead of accepting the generous grace and mercy of the judge, 00:13:39.879 --> 00:13:45.559 we think we can pay off sin's penalty by doing community service. 00:13:46.439 --> 00:13:53.459 We rather keep doing religiously by living a good and moral life under a probation office. 00:13:53.460 --> 00:14:03.180 We think by our behavior, and after a certain period of time of proving our corrective remorse, 00:14:03.560 --> 00:14:06.220 we deserve to have our wrong record wiped out. 00:14:07.780 --> 00:14:11.940 If you foolishly believe that we can deal with our sins, 00:14:12.280 --> 00:14:18.180 we will never come to the realization and cries that Paul had at the end of chapter 7. 00:14:18.179 --> 00:14:25.079 We will not get to appreciate the deliverance that God has given us through Jesus. 00:16:40.299 and if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, 00:16:40.739 --> 00:16:45.439 He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal body 00:18:12.779 --> 00:18:20.839 And on the other hand, if you are suffering from a debilitating sickness, 00:18:21.319 --> 00:18:24.059 that puts many restraints on your mortal body. 00:18:25.119 -->
