those who are faithful, who put their faith in God, will survive the judgment that's coming on Israel because of their sin. 00:01:04.019 --> 00:01:08.859 And we found out that applies to us today as 00:09:58.980 Well, he uses the image of wine to describe the Babylonian. 00:09:59.480 --> 00:10:06.919 It says that wine is basically poetic imagery for his pride. 00:10:06.919 --> 00:10:12.139 It's a symbol for his self-obsession, his greed for conquering. 00:10:12.219 --> 00:10:12.799 We see that. 00:10:13.299 --> 00:10:14.919 His greed is as wide as shale. 00:10:15.059 --> 00:10:16.439 Like self-worshiping individual. 00:10:35.320 --> 00:10:44.940 If we remember back in verse 11 of chapter 1, it talks about how these Babylonians, they were guilty men whose own might is their God. 00:15:29.940 --> 00:15:34.940 But then, all of a sudden, that gets flipped on him here in Habakkuk chapter 2. 00:15:35.040 --> 00:15:41.460 God's saying that this is, the tables are going to turn on this guy who's drunk on himself. 00:15:43.040 --> 00:15:48.640 And the tables are going to turn in the mouth of those that he's conquered. 00:15:49.180 --> 00:15:50.160 So, it's irony. 00:15:50.580 greedy people. 00:16:15.279 --> 00:16:19.299 In their greed for material goods, the Babylonians went out conquering people like crazy, 00:16:19.659 --> 00:16:20.860 carting the booty back home. 00:16:20.860 --> 00:16:26.080 We know that happened because Nebuchadnezzar went and sacked Jerusalem 00:16:26.080 --> 00:16:31.680 and he carved off all the treasures of the temple to be in his own massive palace. 00:16:32.139 --> 00:16:35.039 He heaped up what was not his own, verse 6. 00:16:36.120 --> 00:16:38.879 But notice that his arrogant greed comes at a price. 00:16:40.800 --> 00:16:48.840 Those whom he had put into his debt are now going to be his debtors. 00:16:49.300 --> 00:16:50.340 It's going to be flipped on him. 00:16:50.340 --> 00:16:50.860 Verse 7. 00:16:50.960 --> the city of Babylon had a wall around it, speaking of his nest. 00:17:37.360 --> 00:17:47.220 It had a wall around it that a four-horse chariot, four horses side by side, a chariot behind it, could run along the width of the wall. 00:17:47.220 --> 00:17:48.720 This is massive. 00:17:49.240 --> 00:17:51.079 Practically unconquerable. 00:17:51.819 --> 00:17:52.839 It had a moat. 00:17:53.000 --> 00:17:54.019 It had eight gates. 00:17:55.319 --> 00:18:00.019 And within this, within this wall, was the palace structure. 00:18:00.019 --> 00:18:04.359 And the palace structure had a wall surrounding it. 00:18:04.779 --> 00:18:10.639 Inside the massive wall, the palace structure had a wall that was 136 feet thick. 00:18:11.539 --> 00:18:18.220 If there was a nest that was high and above any nest in the ancient world, it was Babylon. 00:18:18.819 --> 00:18:19.339 Massive. 00:18:20.940 --> 00:18:25.460 But all this security in wealth and power doesn't impress God in the least.
