Was it just a natural stirring as you'd had a good sleep and just came round when it was time to wake up? 00:00:37.060 --> 00:00:51.060 Or was it an alarm clock perhaps that woke you up? Or maybe it was the noise of maybe people, children or other people around or even animals outside or inside barking or other noises. 00:00:51.500 --> 00:00:56.900 There's so many things that can wake us up in the morning or indeed through the night as well. 00:00:58.180 --> 00:01:00.859 But did the Word of God wake you up this morning? 00:01:00.859 --> 00:01:11.379 Have you read God's Word today and has it had that impact on you where it's like an alarm clock going off, where it has woken you up? 00:01:11.799 --> 00:01:16.260 It's spoken to you in a way that maybe you've never seen before. 00:01:16.560 --> 00:01:20.939 A word or a passage or something that you've never noticed. 00:01:21.079 --> 00:01:27.439 It's had that impact on you of just stirring you, giving you a bit of a shock, waking you up. 00:01:27.439 --> 00:01:32.480 God's Word is powerful and it can have that effect. 00:01:33.060 --> 00:01:48.239 And as we read here in chapter 51 and into chapter 52, there are three verses in this reading and maybe they stood out for you when you notice the title of the sermon today being Wakey Wakey. 00:01:48.719 --> 00:01:52.000 You think, well, where do we see that in this passage? 00:06:51.979 --> 00:06:53.379 Is God sleeping? 00:06:54.119 --> 00:06:57.759 Or even as some would say, well, God, if he was real, God is gone. 00:06:57.879 --> 00:06:58.699 God is dead. 00:06:59.819 --> 00:07:00.899 God is not dead. 00:07:01.979 --> 00:07:03.779 And God is not sleeping. 00:07:04.279 --> 00:07:08.639 But that's the way we can so often feel and so often see him. 00:07:09.500 --> 00:07:14.079 What we have to remember here is that in Isaiah's time, as I mentioned earlier, 00:07:14.079 --> 00:07:19.759 in the book of Isaiah, you see it, a warning of disaster coming up to chapter 39. 00:07:20.379 --> 00:07:25.240 And then from chapter 40 onwards, that sense of the Lord is going to comfort. 00:07:25.379 --> 00:07:29.659 The Lord will comfort if the people will return to him. 00:07:30.439 --> 00:07:34.439 Isaiah 40, these wonderful words of the beginning of the chapter. 00:07:35.079 --> 00:07:38.979 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. 00:07:39.019 --> 00:07:42.699 And yet, there seems to be no comfort. 00:07:42.699 --> 00:07:47.579 Comfort. Comfort seems so far removed. 00:07:48.579 --> 00:07:54.439 Because the people that are being spoken about here are in disarray. 00:07:54.599 --> 00:07:56.659 They're in a terrible plight. 00:07:56.779 --> 00:08:00.039 You see that as you read on in chapter 51. 00:08:00.939 --> 00:08:02.599 Just look at verse 19 there. 00:08:03.159 --> 00:08:05.019 These two things have happened to you. 00:08:05.139 --> 00:08:06.219 Who will console you? 00:08:07.000 --> 00:08:08.519 Devastation and destruction. 00:08:08.919 --> 00:08:10.480 Famine and sword. 00:08:10.699 --> 00:08:12.219 Who will comfort you? 00:08:12.699 --> 00:08:15.519 So these things have happened in their midst. 00:08:15.680 --> 00:08:16.579 There is desolation. 00:08:17.379 --> 00:08:18.839 There is destruction. 00:08:19.579 --> 00:08:20.659 And the people are saying, 00:08:20.860 --> 00:08:25.779 God, why are you sleeping in the midst of all of this? 00:08:26.839 --> 00:08:28.579 There is no response. 00:08:29.360 --> 00:08:32.799 God is seeing as if he doesn't care for them. 00:08:32.799 --> 00:08:38.500 And the people are then finding themselves in the situation of doubt. 00:08:38.500 --> And they think God doesn't care. 00:08:57.879 --> 00:08:59.340 Are you like that today? 00:08:59.340 --> 00:09:03.519 Do you feel that sense of fear? 00:09:04.019 --> 00:09:06.000 That sense of the one who dried up the sea, 00:10:44.399 --> 00:10:45.860 they crossed the Red Sea. 00:10:46.340 --> 00:10:48.500 By the power of God divided it. 00:10:48.879 --> 00:10:51.480 So God had done great things in the past. 00:10:52.899 --> 00:10:54.200 We can look at ourselves and say, 00:10:54.279 --> 00:10:56.960 well, God did great things in the past for us. 00:10:58.019 --> 00:11:00.060 But now
