00:05:01.120 --> 00:05:05.900 That life is so much greater than just food or clothing. 00:05:06.840 --> 00:05:12.220 I start feeling pretty pathetic for how I was worrying about so much, 00:05:12.300 concept. 00:05:47.780 --> 00:05:53.960 It's just this inner feeling inside of us being torn apart just by a lot of worry. 00:05:54.620 --> 00:05:54.759 Okay? 00:05:55.220 --> 00:05:56.980 With that in mind, let's go ahead. 00:05:57.280 --> 00:06:00.240 And how this passage is kind of laid out. 00:06:00.340 --> 00:06:03.759 We have the main exhortation in the beginning and at the end. 00:06:03.900 --> 00:06:07.259 And then Jesus gives us quite a few reasons supporting that. 00:06:07.340 --> 00:06:11.019 And so, that's exactly how we're going to walk through it this morning. 00:06:11.019 --> 00:06:13.500 And so, just a summary statement that I made. 00:06:13.599 --> 00:06:14.299 It's very simple. 00:06:14.919 --> 00:06:19.719 The main exhortation of this passage is just to trust in God Lord, he just reminds us that life is much more than food and clothing. 00:06:31.859 --> 00:06:32.039 Okay? 00:06:32.040 --> 00:06:34.620 At the end of verse 25, he says, 00:06:34.700 --> 00:06:38.460 Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 00:06:39.580 --> 00:06:45.420 When we're anxious, we're rebelling against this God who's called us to think about higher things than that. 00:06:45.560 --> 00:06:51.560 He's calling us away from the simple, the cares of this world and drawing our focus to things that last. 00:06:51.620 --> 00:06:55.400 And we see down there in verse 33, seeking first the kingdom of God. 00:06:55.800 --> 00:06:58.939 He's drawing us away from the things of this world and to that. 00:06:58.939 --> 00:07:04.019 In the words of Paul, he said that's the same concept later on in Colossians where he said, 00:07:04.199 --> 00:07:07.839 Set your minds on the things above and not on the things of this earth. 00:07:08.439 --> 00:07:14.560 And looking back in verse 24, we see how Jesus is telling us that we can't serve two masters. 00:07:15.100 --> 00:07:19.920 That we're either going to hate one and we're going to love the other or vice versa. 00:07:20.259 --> 00:07:22.439 We can't do two things at once. 00:07:22.439 --> 00:07:27.060 We have to be fully devoted to God or we'll be fully devoted to this world. 00:07:27.060 --> 00:07:32.579 And so throughout this whole passage, Jesus gives quite a few reasons for this. 00:07:33.000 --> 00:07:34.660 That's how we're going to walk through it this morning. 00:07:34.720 --> 00:07:38.980 It's 00:08:31.060 So that's this rhetorical question, which obviously the answer is yes, that life is more than food and it's more than clothing. 00:08:31.519 --> 00:08:35.360 But why would he ask that question in such a way? 00:08:35.460 --> 00:08:41.519 Why wouldn't he just point us to the fact that we do need to be seeking his kingdom first? 00:08:41.580 --> 00:08:42.879 So why did he ask it? us warm from the cold, we'd eventually die. 00:08:52.240 --> 00:08:54.980 But if we didn't have food that we didn't like, we'd just be uncomfortable. 00:08:55.920 --> 00:09:02.740 If we didn't have clothes that the people around us liked, we might not have the same image in their minds that we want them to have. 00:09:03.519 --> 00:09:08.860 So ultimately here, he's talking about three different 00:09:51.639 That does not include seeking first our comfort, or our self-preservation, or even, at all, man's opinions of us. 00:09:52.399 --> 00:09:57.319 In other words, verse 33 could be called, and it is elsewhere, take up our cross and follow Jesus. 00:09:57.459 --> 00:09:59.659 The same exhortation, just put a different way. 00:09:59.659 --> 00:10:09.179 We're called to lose our own life so that we can gain that true and greater life of living each day oriented toward what God's kingdom could use the most. 00:10:10.299 --> 00:10:13.339 So it's not at all, our calling is not at all about our comfort. 00:10:14.259 --> 00:10:20.559 It's not at all about what other people would think about us, and it's not at all about preserving our own life. 00:10:20.559 --> 00:10:23.819 This weren't just sitting in their nest, staring up at the sky, waiting for food to come down. 00:11:56.039 --> 00:11:57.500 That's not how birds work. 00:11:58.279 --> 00:11:59.099 They do work. 00:13:38.179 --> 00:13:39.480 eating the bread of anxious toil. 00:13:39.939 --> 00:13:41.960 For he gives to his beloved sleep. 00:13:41.960 --> 00:13:48.400 I think these verses here demonstrate really well what I believe the middle of verse 26 is saying 00:13:48.400 --> 00:13:52.420 when it's clarifying that it's our heavenly Father that's providing for the birds. 00:13:52.920 -->
