do is just step back two chapters to Isaiah 53. 00:04:11.840 --> 00:04:17.819 And we see how there Isaiah is talking about the very reason why our meal is going to take place. 00:04:17.819 --> 00:04:23.439 It's a prophecy of the Lord Jesus Christ and what he would suffer on the cross. 00:04:24.439 --> 00:04:27.779 In Isaiah 53, verse 5, for example, there we read, 00:04:28.500 --> 00:04:31.159 But he was wounded for our transgressions. 00:04:31.240 --> 00:04:33.240 He was crushed for our iniquities. 00:04:33.300 --> 00:04:37.420 Upon him was the chastisement that brought us there is this great invitation. 00:05:59.000 --> 00:06:01.680 The question is, will you come? 00:06:03.140 --> 00:06:04.000 Will you come? 00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:08.519 And so we are going to look at this passage under three headings. 00:06:09.160 --> 00:06:11.819 The first thing we see is the setting. 00:06:12.300 --> 00:06:14.779 The kind of setting these words speak about. 00:06:15.720 --> 00:06:18.500 Then we see the offer that is given. 00:06:19.639 --> 00:06:23.540 And then we see finally the price that is mentioned. 00:06:23.759 --> 00:06:28.120 These are three things that when we are thinking of having a meal together, 00:06:28.259 --> 00:06:31.060 We often think about where are we going to go? 00:06:31.160 --> 00:06:31.819 What setting? 00:06:31.819 --> 00:06:33.959 What place are we going to go to? 00:06:34.040 --> 00:06:34.579 The offer. 00:06:34.920 --> 00:06:36.439 What are we going to have? 00:06:37.079 --> 00:06:40.800 And what is often the case is, well, how much is it going to cost? 00:06:42.259 --> 00:06:44.620 That's what Isaiah is speaking about here. 00:06:44.680 --> 00:06:47.600 So the first thing we see is the setting. 00:06:49.480 --> 00:06:51.500 Isaiah's role as a prophet, 00:06:51.939 --> 00:06:54.879 As with every prophet we read of in the Old Testament, 00:06:55.040 --> 00:06:57.579 Was never an easy role. 00:06:57.579 --> 00:07:01.199 The prophet was often met with opposition. 00:07:01.199 --> 00:07:05.240 He was bringing God's word to the people, 00:07:05.500 --> 00:07:09.539 But the people were so often rejecting it and rejecting God. 00:07:09.540 --> 00:07:12.319 And we see it again and again. 00:07:14.319 --> 00:07:15.960 And Isaiah is no different. 00:07:16.080 --> 00:07:19.220 When you read from the beginning of Isaiah through to chapter 40, 00:07:19.319 --> 00:07:22.040 What you find is the prophet giving warning. 00:07:22.040 --> 00:07:25.520 You think everything is okay, he's saying, 00:07:25.520 --> 00:07:28.020 But disaster is coming upon us. 00:07:28.080 --> 00:07:29.900 Invasion is coming upon us. 00:07:30.319 --> 00:07:33.160 Captivity is coming our way, but they were not listening. 00:07:33.160 --> 00:07:36.520 But then from Isaiah 40 onwards, 00:07:37.160 --> 00:07:39.380 You see that that has come upon them. 00:07:40.480 --> 00:07:44.820 But yet there is still God speaking to them. 00:07:45.200 --> 00:07:48.720 God calling a people back to himself. 00:07:48.720 --> 00:07:54.660 But this call, as you see, is in the midst of other calls. 00:07:55.420 --> 00:07:58.840 Many other calls going on. 00:07:59.840 --> 00:08:03.460 And that's what the setting of Isaiah is here. 00:08:04.180 --> 00:08:06.520 The imagery of Isaiah 55, 00:08:07.340 --> 00:08:08.340 When we're seeing that was the Barrowlands. 00:09:03.459 --> 00:09:05.860 And it was something to behold when you're seeing 00:09:05.860 --> 00:09:09.379 All of these people just calling for your attention. 00:09:09.519 --> 00:09:11.259 All the great bargains they've got. 00:09:11.259 --> 00:09:13.980 Everything that you need to make your life better. 00:09:14.419 --> 00:09:16.719 They're calling out for your attention. 00:09:17.219 --> 00:09:19.399 And it's just one voice after another. 00:09:20.019 --> 00:09:24.479 This is the kind of setting that Isaiah is talking about here. 00:09:25.339 -->
