It's about the good news of Jesus, death, and resurrection. 00:00:44.859 --> 00:00:48.460 I've mentioned this to you before and I'll mention it to you again and I'll mention it to you later. 00:00:49.060 --> 00:00:58.060 Page 7 of your worship guide, the quote I keep coming back to, that Paul's letter to the Romans is arguably the single most important piece of literature. 00:00:58.219 --> 00:01:00.879 In the history of the world. 00:01:01.859 --> 00:01:03.259 A modest claim. 00:01:04.060 --> 00:01:07.780 I keep reminding you all of that because there is a sense in which Romans is kind of hard. 00:01:08.439 --> 00:01:11.480 And maybe you've noticed that as we've dug into it. 00:01:11.539 --> 00:01:15.299 There's times when Paul repeats himself and you're trying to figure out, okay, what's new? What's old? 00:01:15.719 --> 00:01:20.439 The good news in all of that though is that Romans may be hard but it is also great. 00:01:22.000 --> 00:01:25.560 Romans may be hard but it is also worth it. 00:01:25.560 --> 00:01:30.219 And as we may have the temptation to get lost a little bit in Paul's arguments, 00:01:30.340 --> 00:01:33.939 I want to make sure that you know exactly where we're at as we start this morning. 00:01:34.200 --> 00:01:41.780 So we are in Romans chapter 6 and Romans chapter 6 asks one and only one question. 00:01:41.780 --> 00:01:53.400 If God's grace is real, we might say since God's grace is real, why do I still have to obey? 00:01:55.400 --> 00:02:00.280 Since God's grace is real, why does it matter what I do? 00:02:00.280 --> 00:02:07.379 If Jesus lived the perfect life that I should have lived if he took the punishment for my sins, 00:02:08.060 --> 00:02:11.580 why can't I do whatever I want? 00:02:12.520 --> 00:02:15.639 That would seem to be maybe the conclusion of that. 00:02:15.819 --> 00:02:18.000 Okay, so that's the question of chapter 6. 00:02:18.379 --> 00:02:22.580 To that one question, Paul has at least three answers. 00:02:22.740 --> union with Christ, that what's true of Christ is true of you. 00:02:44.840 --> 00:02:48.939 When Christ died in his death, you died to the power of sin. 00:02:48.939 --> 00:02:56.079 In Christ's say, there is nothing so powerful that it can stand in the way of God's word. 00:04:30.600 --> 00:04:35.900 So that's why we read now Romans chapter 6, starting at verse 15. 00:04:35.899 --> learning a new topic and you want a great introduction, 00:06:54.199 --> 00:06:58.459 one of the best things you can do is find a children's book. 00:06:59.459 --> 00:07:03.180 And it's one of the best things you can do because children's books, by definition, 00:07:03.300 --> 00:07:06.259 are meant to be simple and clear and basic. 00:07:06.259 --> 00:07:10.079 And so you're trying to get at your life? 00:08:59.599 --> 00:09:02.199 Who is your master? 00:09:02.200 --> 00:09:08.200 And that's one of the major questions here of chapter six. 00:09:08.960 --> 00:09:15.800 Who will hold the
