expansive look at the whole message of the Bible from beginning to end. 00:03:29.580 --> 00:03:32.960 It starts with God and creation. 00:03:34.000 --> 00:03:36.840 Then it confronts us in our sinful 00:04:10.400 --> 00:04:14.400 Now, no specific setting is given for it. 00:04:15.500 --> 00:04:22.879 And to be honest with you, attempts to try to force it into a historic setting, I think, tend to be unhelpful. 00:04:23.579 --> 00:04:33.199 Many have suggested that perhaps this was a liturgical psalm used at an event like when David goes up with the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem. 00:04:33.540 --> 00:04:36.840 But there's no real context clues that make that plain for us. 00:04:36.920 --> 00:04:37.879 It's conjecture. 00:04:37.879 --> 00:04:44.540 And to be honest, I think it series of other songs that are focused on the salvation that will come to God's people through his promised king. 00:05:08.220 --> 00:05:11.580 That's the theme of the psalms that we're in right now, overflow of the blessing of this salvation on the king's people. 00:05:22.720 --> 00:05:27.700 Clearly, he's pointing us forward to the promised king, Jesus. 00:05:29.220 --> 00:05:36.340 Now, historically, Christians have used Psalm 24 in their celebrations of the ascension of Christ. 00:05:36.540 --> 00:05:42.960 Ascension Day, which in some liturgical circles comes 40 days after Easter every year. 00:05:42.959 --> 00:05:49.959 And Psalm 24 would be at least a reading, if not something of an exposition or homily in those services. 00:05:50.479 --> 00:06:01.959 I think that's actually quite appropriate, given that the emphasis in this psalm is on the king's return to glory after winning salvation for his people. 00:06:02.799 --> 00:06:06.000 But no matter when you use it or where is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. 00:07:22.120 --> 00:07:26.139 The world is his and all who dwell in it. 00:07:26.139 --> 00:07:32.439 The language is possessive, literally, to the Lord, the 00:10:55.220 is the Bible's answer, 00:10:55.700 --> 00:10:59.299 and it's the answer that's provided for us in these two verses. 00:10:59.860 --> 00:11:01.860 What is it that David is telling us? 00:12:24.879 just to give you a hint here, 00:12:25.219 --> 00:12:29.919 it prepares us for this amazing payoff at the end of the psalm. 00:12:30.219 --> 00:12:31.919 But you have to wait before we
