are things you absolutely need to do. 00:07:51.399 --> 00:07:57.379 And God encourages you and God uses people in your lives in those situations. 00:07:58.159 --> 00:08:00.659 But if that is your one and only focus, 00:08:01.479 --> 00:08:05.679 you will never find peace or victory in the fear. 00:08:05.680 --> 00:08:10.540 It's like eating an empty calorie for the body. 00:08:11.540 --> See, Psalm 27 deals with some of these questions. 00:08:21.579 --> 00:08:24.579 If anyone knows fear, it's David. 00:08:25.579 --> 00:08:30.159 What you will see is when David goes through fear, times of trouble. 00:08:30.560 --> 00:08:32.620 The question is, how will he react? 00:08:33.460 --> 00:08:36.000 I want to show you four things in this passage. 00:08:36.759 --> 00:08:41.480 One, the truth that calms his fears, verses 1 to 3. 00:08:42.039 --> 00:08:47.000 The second one, the desire that drives his heart, verses 4 and 6. 00:08:47.000 --> 00:08:51.980 Three, the prayer that expresses his struggle, verses 7 and 12. 00:08:52.440 --> 00:08:57.860 And four, the confidence that settles his life, verses 13 and 14. 00:08:58.779 --> 00:09:02.779 So starting at verse 1 to 3, the truth that calms his fears. 00:09:03.580 --> 00:09:08.700 In verse 1, David describes the Lord as his light and his salvation. 00:09:09.700 --> 00:09:11.820 Now, obvious question, what does light do? 00:09:12.379 --> 00:09:14.600 Well, it helps you see when you cannot see. 00:09:14.600 --> 00:09:17.560 But this means that there is a darkness. 00:09:18.820 --> 00:09:21.420 Present even then and even today. 00:09:22.440 --> 00:09:24.600 And not the type of darkness that you can kind of see. 00:09:24.740 --> 00:09:26.379 That you think of a light, you think of a flashlight. 00:09:26.899 --> 00:09:28.379 And you know where you can kind of see down, 00:09:28.440 --> 00:09:32.159 but you're just shining the flashlight just to make sure it is what you see. 00:09:33.259 --> 00:09:36.300 But --> 00:09:54.360 And that can cause you to fear. 00:09:55.559 --> 00:09:56.939 It can be very unnerving. 00:09:57.960 --> 00:10:01.899 David is saying that Yahweh is his light through that darkness. 00:10:01.899 --> 00:10:04.000 And his salvation. 00:10:04.659 --> 00:10:06.139 His deliverer. 00:10:07.019 --> 00:10:10.720 And because of this truth, what is the question that he poses? 00:10:11.860 what a truth that is for us today. 00:11:29.200 --> 00:11:33.180 The Lord, if you are a believer here this morning, the Lord is our fortress. 00:11:33.620 --> 00:11:43.000 No matter what we face from the enemy today, the things that might happen in our lives physically, what happens in our lives spiritually, even our battle with sin. 00:11:43.000 --> 00:11:49.620 This is the truth that shall calm our hearts in times of fear and in times of trouble. 00:11:49.620 --> 00:11:54.039 And this is what calms David's heart in times of trouble. 00:11:55.000 --> 00:12:00.379 The one thing you should notice in this psalm is that the Lord never changes. 00:12:00.379 --> 00:12:06.360 In verses 2 to 3, David describes the darkness he is facing. 00:12:07.399 --> 00:12:10.820 Verse 2, when evildoers assail to eat my flesh. 00:12:11.740 --> 00:12:13.779 Now that's a very dark image, isn't it? 00:12:14.240 --> 00:12:16.939 And he's saying when people come to devour and kill me. 00:12:18.279 --> 00:12:22.240 Knowing David, many people looked to kill him and hunt him down. 00:12:23.019 --> 00:12:26.019 David has the full right to be afraid. 00:12:26.019 --> 00:12:32.220 Now I don't think maybe not many of us have been threatened to be killed. 00:12:32.879 --> 00:12:34.120 Or maybe some of you have. 00:12:35.779 --> 00:12:38.600 Maybe you have faced threats for being a Christian. 00:12:39.079 --> 00:12:40.519 Or mocked or put down. 00:12:41.059 --> 00:12:43.059 And it feels like they are relentless. 00:12:43.919 --> 00:12:46.379 It feels like there is no escape. 00:12:47.519
