00:00:53.679 We thank God that, number one, we had the opportunity for us to go over His Word, 00:00:54.159 --> 00:00:57.179 but also for us to learn and grow together. 00:00:57.179 --> 00:01:03.380 We think of parables as these simplistic teachings from Christ. 00:01:04.459 --> 00:01:12.200 And these teachings are all part of God's plan, God's story. 00:01:12.200 --> 00:01:19.920 It helps us to very simplistic manner, what it is we have gone over 00:01:45.560 --> 00:01:48.620 and what it is we will go over. 00:01:48.620 --> 00:01:56.320 I originally titled this, Thy Kingdom Come, Parables from Heaven for Life on Earth. 00:01:57.080 --> 00:02:03.280 And this is to help all of us, no matter where we are in our spiritual walk and in our journey 00:02:03.280 --> 00:02:08.819 in faith, to grow deeper in our relationship with the Lord. 00:02:08.819 --> 00:02:15.900 For those of you who may not know the Lord, it's coming to know who Jesus is. 00:02:16.319 --> 00:02:20.780 And for those of us who do know the Lord, to strengthen in your walk. 00:02:21.919 --> 00:02:27.479 It's a great encouragement that no matter where it is you come from, 00:02:28.000 --> 00:02:30.959 no matter what And we have in here parabolic symbols, right? 00:03:03.319 --> 00:03:07.859 We have things that show up as patterns within the Word, 00:03:08.599 --> 00:03:13.039 specifically within these parables that help us understand. 00:03:13.199 --> 00:03:15.319 We began with the seed and the soil. 00:03:16.000 --> 00:03:20.419 The seed representing the Word, and the soil representing our hearts. 00:03:21.359 --> 00:03:25.400 And that our hearts should be softened towards the Lord. 00:03:26.139 --> 00:03:28.560 That our hearts should be transformed. 00:03:28.560 --> 00:03:33.099 For many of us, we may know someone who has a hardened heart. 00:03:33.539 --> 00:03:35.300 Someone that we can pray for. 00:03:35.780 --> 00:03:40.699 Someone who has bitterness or hatred towards Christ or to the Church. 00:03:41.560 --> 00:03:44.539 For many of us, we may have even been hurt at times. 00:03:44.539 --> 00:03:49.500 But it's such an important call for us to ask God to soften our hearts 00:03:49.500 --> 00:03:54.859 and to receive His Word, much like how we are called to receive salvation. 00:03:55.639 --> 00:03:59.959 We had all these soils representing different statuses of the heart. 00:03:59.960 --> 00:04:05.719 Sometimes there are moments where there's sin that is occupying our lives, 00:04:06.340 --> 00:04:07.760 represented by weeds. 00:04:08.260 --> 00:04:11.560 That we need to clear out these weeds, as it were, 00:04:11.700 --> 00:04:14.580 and focus on becoming more Christ-like, 00:04:15.260 --> 00:04:17.259 following in the footsteps of Christ, 00:04:17.860 --> 00:04:21.220 and letting God transform us from the inside out. 00:04:21.220 --> 00:04:23.960 So we have the Word, right? 00:04:24.020 --> 00:04:25.800 The seed gets planted into the ground, 00:04:25.800 --> 00:04:27.560 and it grows into a tree, 00:04:28.240 --> 00:04:30.420 representing our spiritual walk in the Lord, 00:04:30.900 --> 00:04:33.180 and that we are to bear fruit. 00:04:34.060 --> 00:04:38.080 We also went over this idea of the treasure and the pearl. 00:04:39.340 --> 00:04:41.600 That salvation in Christ, 00:04:42.420 --> 00:04:46.000 truth, the truth that we find in Christ, 00:04:46.400 --> 00:04:50.300 should be regarded higher than any other truth. 00:04:51.220 --> 00:04:54.140 When we went over the treasure and the pearl, 00:04:54.660 --> 00:04:58.720 you had different scenarios where one person stumbled upon the truth. 00:04:59.300 --> 00:05:02.420 They just happened to find something of such great value 00:05:02.420 --> 00:05:05.020 that they were willing to trade everything for it. 00:05:05.700 --> 00:05:09.640 Then you had the guy who was seeking after fine pearls, 00:05:09.940 --> 00:05:13.620 who was seeking those pearls with everything that he had 00:05:13.620 --> 00:05:15.440 to find something of great value. 00:05:16.200 --> 00:05:20.900 And so, whether you stumble upon who the Lord is, 00:05:21.220 --> 00:05:23.620 or you're seeking truth with all that you have, 00:05:24.420 --> 00:05:27.060 it is important for us to seek after Christ, 00:05:27.380 --> 00:05:28.660 the truth of his Word, 00:05:28.860 --> 00:05:32.860 and the salvation that he offers to each and every one of us. 00:05:33.460 --> 00:05:34.480 So, truth. 00:05:35.940 --> 00:05:39.400 We also have the lamp and the householder. 00:05:39.399 --> 00:05:41.679 The lamp representing, 00:05:41.679 --> 00:05:44.859 we find this in the parable of the ten virgins, right? 00:05:44.939 --> 00:05:47.159 Where some of them are holding their lamps, 00:05:47.259 --> 00:05:49.099 and the lamp representing a vessel, 00:05:49.279 --> 00:05:50.919 representing a person, 00:05:51.319 --> 00:05:52.819 also representing churches. 00:05:53.639 --> 00:05:56.519 That you want to have it filled with oil, 00:05:57.099 --> 00:05:58.539 representing the Holy Spirit. 00:05:59.039 --> 00:06:02.159 And you need to have the flame, right? 00:06:02.179 --> 00:06:05.519 You need to have the light that shines in the darkness. 00:06:05.519 --> 00:06:08.399 And as we went over last week, 00:06:08.719 --> 00:06:09.579 let it shine. 00:06:10.120 --> 00:06:12.359 We want our lamps to shine, 00:06:12.680 --> 00:06:14.379 not only in our own households, 00:06:14.620 --> 00:06:15.939 but for the world to see. 00:06:16.579 --> 00:06:17.479 To be examples. 00:06:18.500 --> 00:06:20.639 And the householder is someone then, 00:06:21.000 --> 00:06:23.139 who is able to discern, 00:06:23.379 --> 00:06:26.180 and take out the treasures new and old. 00:06:26.819 --> 00:06:27.979 Some scholars have said, 00:06:28.039 --> 00:06:30.620 it's the ability to distinguish the difference 00:06:30.620 --> 00:06:32.839 between the Old Testament and the New Testament. 00:06:32.839 --> 00:06:35.859 Some have said it's the old promises 00:06:35.859 --> 00:06:36.939 and the new promises. 00:06:37.619 --> 00:06:39.879 But it's the ability to shine your light, 00:06:40.299 --> 00:06:43.319 and also to be able to spiritually discern. 00:06:43.739 --> 00:06:43.919 Right? 00:06:44.039 --> 00:06:45.919 Knowing the difference between right and wrong. 00:06:46.060 --> 00:06:47.039 Truth from lies. 00:06:47.919 --> 00:06:49.000 And in discernment, 00:06:49.139 --> 00:06:51.139 we train in discernment. 00:06:52.120 --> 00:06:54.539 We also have the shepherd and the sheep. 00:06:55.620 --> 00:06:58.099 And what's really powerful about that 00:06:58.099 --> 00:07:00.459 is the shepherd is represented, 00:07:00.539 --> 00:07:02.059 and a lot of us know this language, 00:07:02.060 --> 00:07:04.339 it's represented by Christ, 00:07:04.459 --> 00:07:05.819 the chief shepherd, right? 00:07:05.839 --> 00:07:06.920 Or the great shepherd. 00:07:07.500 --> 00:07:09.139 And his sheep are represented 00:07:09.139 --> 00:07:11.000 as those that know him, right? 00:07:11.379 --> 00:07:12.959 Just as when scripture says 00:07:12.959 --> 00:07:15.340 that the sheep know his voice, right? 00:07:15.920 --> 00:07:16.980 And it's always interesting, 00:07:17.180 --> 00:07:19.959 in a Bible study that I went to the other day, 00:07:20.540 --> 00:07:22.000 there was a man there, 00:07:23.139 --> 00:07:26.319 if Kermit is watching on YouTube or wherever, 00:07:26.840 --> 00:07:27.800 he'll appreciate this. 00:07:27.800 --> 00:07:30.900 He told me this story of when he would go outside, 00:07:31.460 --> 00:07:34.860 and he would call for his cows, his cattle, 00:07:35.819 --> 00:07:37.780 and hundreds of them would just come 00:07:37.780 --> 00:07:40.300 right from over the hill, as it were. 00:07:41.259 --> 00:07:43.740 He would just, they knew his voice so well 00:07:43.740 --> 00:07:44.680 that they responded, 00:07:44.800 --> 00:07:46.860 and it's such a real-life connection 00:07:46.860 --> 00:07:50.860 when we think of the shepherd and the sheep, right? 00:07:50.900 --> 00:07:51.759 When you have animals, 00:07:51.879 --> 00:07:53.600 be that cows or sheep or horses, 00:07:53.600 --> 00:07:54.780 they know who you are, 00:07:55.360 --> 00:07:57.220 and how often they're happy to see you, 00:07:57.420 --> 00:07:59.420 even when you're having a bad day, right? 00:08:00.080 --> 00:08:02.480 There are, that goes to show the familiarity 00:08:02.480 --> 00:08:04.900 of us knowing the Lord. 00:08:05.540 --> 00:08:07.280 What beautiful imagery that is, 00:08:07.320 --> 00:08:08.120 and also the fact, 00:08:08.200 --> 00:08:10.760 the simple fact that we also can think of 00:08:10.760 --> 00:08:13.400 those that are watching the gate. 00:08:13.780 --> 00:08:15.420 We talked about gatekeepers, 00:08:16.160 --> 00:08:18.820 that that unfortunately has a negative connotation, 00:08:18.819 --> 00:08:21.139 but a gatekeeper is someone who is to protect 00:08:21.139 --> 00:08:22.740 and assist the shepherd. 00:08:24.180 --> 00:08:27.199 So we see Christ as the great shepherd, 00:08:27.480 --> 00:08:29.639 but also we think of pastors 00:08:29.639 --> 00:08:32.840 as they are to lead their congregations, 00:08:32.980 --> 00:08:34.700 not to be a hireling, 00:08:35.259 --> 00:08:38.559 but someone who cares for the flock, right? 00:08:38.600 --> 00:08:42.019 Who watches out and checks in with their, 00:08:42.299 --> 00:08:43.620 makes sure there's no injury 00:08:43.620 --> 00:08:46.039 or they're not stuck in a rut or whatever it is, 00:08:46.460 --> 00:08:47.439 but takes care of them. 00:08:47.440 --> 00:08:49.680 And even in the image of gatekeepers, 00:08:49.840 --> 00:08:52.100 people who are assisting the shepherd in that, 00:08:52.180 --> 00:08:53.140 what beautiful language. 00:08:54.100 --> 00:08:55.460 We also had the, 00:08:55.920 --> 00:08:58.520 a lot of the language about virgins and the banquet 00:08:58.520 --> 00:09:01.100 used as this idea of anticipation 00:09:01.100 --> 00:09:03.980 and being prepared, right? 00:09:04.060 --> 00:09:05.860 Preparing for the wedding feast. 00:09:05.940 --> 00:09:07.300 And that kind of language is very, 00:09:07.640 --> 00:09:10.020 it's difficult for us to think of nowadays, 00:09:10.020 --> 00:09:12.080 but think of someone who's waiting 00:09:12.080 --> 00:09:13.200 for their wedding day. 00:09:13.720 --> 00:09:15.980 That sense of anticipation, right? 00:09:15.980 --> 00:09:18.000 Is the same type of anticipation 00:09:18.000 --> 00:09:21.519 when we are waiting upon the Lord to return, 00:09:22.039 --> 00:09:24.220 waiting upon Christ for, 00:09:24.560 --> 00:09:27.379 well, the new heaven and the new earth, as it were. 00:09:27.580 --> 00:09:29.980 So there's so many connections that we're seeing here. 00:09:30.000 --> 00:09:31.019 And of course, the banquet, 00:09:31.259 --> 00:09:33.600 which is talking about the great feast. 00:09:34.220 --> 00:09:35.600 When we think about this, 00:09:35.720 --> 00:09:37.960 we, when we've just partook in communion, 00:09:37.960 of plenty 00:09:54.800 --> 00:09:58.139 when it comes to salvation, right? 00:09:58.180 --> 00:09:59.580 We've talked about many parables 00:09:59.580 --> 00:10:02.120 where invitations were invited to certain people 00:10:02.120 --> 00:10:04.259 and they rejected the messengers 00:10:04.259 --> 00:10:05.980 or they said that they were too busy 00:10:05.980 --> 00:10:07.200 or whatever it was. 00:10:07.899 --> 00:10:10.419 But the invitation now is for everyone. 00:10:10.819 --> 00:10:13.179 Much like how when we think of Christianity, 00:10:13.620 --> 00:10:14.860 the mystery of Christ, 00:10:15.039 --> 00:10:16.019 that which was hidden, 00:10:16.299 --> 00:10:17.539 is now revealed for all. 00:10:17.539 --> 00:10:19.620 That which was once exclusive 00:10:19.620 --> 00:10:20.960 is now inclusive 00:10:20.960 --> 00:10:23.460 for everyone to come to Christ 00:10:23.460 --> 00:10:26.460 by believing in the death, burial, and resurrection. 00:10:27.100 --> 00:10:30.299 We also had the minas and the talents here. 00:10:31.299 --> 00:10:32.659 Now, it's always interesting. 00:10:32.659 --> 00:10:34.659 Most people, they go over the talents, right? 00:10:34.699 --> 00:10:35.480 And we think of, you know, 00:10:35.740 --> 00:10:37.059 stewarding your money, right? 00:10:37.100 --> 00:10:38.439 We think of all these different things, 00:10:38.519 --> 00:10:40.000 but it's so much more than that. 00:10:40.259 --> 00:10:42.159 The importance of stewardship. 00:10:43.339 --> 00:10:45.459 Many of us, I know in my own background, 00:10:45.579 --> 00:10:46.879 I think of how I was taught, 00:10:46.959 --> 00:10:49.240 you gotta steward your time, talent, and your treasure. 00:10:49.339 --> 00:10:51.199 I remember learning that very young from my mother. 00:10:52.019 --> 00:10:54.019 But we also steward our very lives. 00:10:54.799 --> 00:10:56.779 We steward what God has given to us, 00:10:56.839 --> 00:10:58.179 even our own testimony. 00:10:58.519 --> 00:11:00.799 How are you going to use your story? 00:11:00.799 --> 00:11:03.139 How are you going to use your resources 00:11:03.139 --> 00:11:04.339 for the glory of God? 00:11:04.479 --> 00:11:07.139 How you answer that is unique to you. 00:11:07.399 --> 00:11:08.539 For some of us, 00:11:08.719 --> 00:11:09.959 especially when we're younger, 00:11:10.079 --> 00:11:11.500 we may have more time. reading, 00:11:45.220 --> 00:11:48.379 the final separation or the final judgment 00:11:48.379 --> 00:11:50.440 between good and evil, right? 00:11:50.759 --> 00:11:52.500 And when we think of this idea 00:11:52.500 --> 00:11:54.000 of sheep versus the goat, 00:11:54.540 --> 00:11:56.180 the goats is, 00:11:56.680 --> 00:11:57.740 who do you belong to? 00:11:57.740 --> 00:12:00.240 Do you belong to the great shepherd 00:12:00.240 --> 00:12:01.240 or do you not? 00:12:02.000 --> 00:12:05.180 And even though that can be scary language 00:12:05.180 --> 00:12:06.840 and to some capacity, 00:12:07.000 --> 00:12:09.320 it's a call for us as Christians 00:12:09.320 --> 00:12:11.700 to be able to share to the gospel 00:12:11.700 --> 00:12:13.419 the goats of the world 00:12:13.419 --> 00:12:15.019 or the weeds of the world. 00:12:15.120 --> 00:12:17.080 It's also important for us to know 00:12:17.080 --> 00:12:19.539 that there will be a final judgment 00:12:19.539 --> 00:12:21.659 or a final sorting as it were. 00:12:22.120 --> 00:12:24.200 That's nothing to be afraid of. 00:12:24.200 --> 00:12:25.700 That's actually something 00:12:25.700 --> 00:12:27.540 that we should be friend at midnight 00:12:50.440 --> 00:12:51.920 and the persistent widow. 00:12:51.919 --> 00:12:53.899 Those are some of my favorite ones, right? 00:12:54.279 --> 00:12:57.019 This widow who is asking for justice 00:12:57.019 --> 00:12:59.179 from a wicked judge, right? 00:12:59.240 --> 00:13:00.959 And the judge gets so bothered 00:13:00.959 --> 00:13:03.279 by the fact that this old widow 00:13:03.279 --> 00:13:05.159 is just bothering me for justice. 00:13:05.259 --> 00:13:06.579 I'm finally gonna give her justice. 00:13:06.819 --> 00:13:08.120 I think of this old guy 00:13:08.120 --> 00:13:09.199 or I think of this judge 00:13:09.199 --> 00:13:11.079 and he's like, leave me alone. 00:13:11.879 --> 00:13:13.159 I'm not giving you justice. 00:13:13.299 --> 00:13:14.479 I'm not giving you justice. 00:13:14.620 --> 00:13:15.719 I'm not giving you justice. 00:13:15.899 --> 00:13:17.879 And then finally she keeps coming, 00:13:18.219 --> 00:13:19.240 asking for justice 00:13:19.240 --> 00:13:20.799 and it finally happens. 00:13:20.799 --> 00:13:22.899 And the whole premise of that parable 00:13:22.899 --> 00:13:24.099 was God saying, 00:13:24.620 --> 00:13:25.799 look at this wicked judge 00:13:25.799 --> 00:13:27.219 who neither feared God 00:13:27.219 --> 00:13:28.399 nor respected man, 00:13:28.439 --> 00:13:29.979 as the text says, right? 00:13:30.000 --> 00:13:31.199 That's a pretty wicked person. 00:13:31.799 --> 00:13:34.319 Look at how much more God will give justice. 00:13:34.500 --> 00:13:36.899 How much more God loves us. 00:13:37.579 --> 00:13:40.399 So that is something that was very powerful. 00:13:40.519 --> 00:13:41.959 And then the friend at midnight 00:13:41.959 --> 00:13:42.859 was very similar 00:13:42.859 --> 00:13:44.679 in the sense of being, 00:13:45.479 --> 00:13:47.179 asking for assistance 00:13:47.179 --> 00:13:50.399 and being persistent in prayer, right? 00:13:50.439 --> 00:13:52.679 So we can think of how we seek God 00:13:52.679 --> 00:13:54.779 and asking for justice, 00:13:54.779 --> 00:13:55.839 for love, 00:13:55.899 --> 00:13:58.259 or sometimes for some of us 00:13:58.259 --> 00:13:59.139 we've asked for patience 00:13:59.139 --> 00:14:00.799 and we're still waiting for it, right? 00:14:00.919 --> 00:14:02.599 We think of these different things. 00:14:03.579 --> 00:14:05.859 But it's being persistent in our prayers. 00:14:05.859 --> 00:14:07.439 Just like how scripture tells us 00:14:07.439 --> 00:14:10.179 that we are to pray without ceasing. 00:14:10.319 --> 00:14:13.579 We are to
