00:01:43.979 --> 00:01:58.560 He's being charged with extermination, murder and genocide for carrying out the Shrebshanitsa massacre in which 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed. 00:01:58.560 --> into chapter 7, let me just show you how this is true. 00:05:15.879 --> 00:05:19.400 First of all, just go back to Genesis chapter 15. 00:05:21.860 --> 00:05:24.220 Genesis chapter 15 verse 16. 00:05:26.580 --> 00:05:30.879 The context here is God has given his promises to Abraham. 00:05:31.640 --> 00:05:34.680 He's promised to Abraham that he's going to become a great nation. 00:05:34.680 --> 00:05:39.100 He's going to have his own land where all his descendants will live. 00:05:40.060 --> 00:05:41.920 And he says this in verse 16. 00:05:43.459 --> 00:05:47.180 In the fourth think that as Israel march into the Promised Land, as they attack Jericho, 00:07:37.900 --> 00:07:42.220 that in some way Israel are better than everybody else, superior, that they're good. 00:07:42.220 --> 00:07:43.920 And God is pleased with them. 00:07:45.520 --> 00:07:47.220 And that they deserve the land. 00:07:47.580 --> 00:07:48.780 But this is what God says. 00:07:48.940 --> like Assyria and Babylonia to bring his justice upon Israel. 00:09:05.740 --> 00:09:10.740 So this is not about a vindictive, violent God who is throwing his weight around. 00:09:10.740 --> 00:09:20.759 No, this is a God who is just, who takes sin seriously, and he will deal with it. 00:09:23.259 --> 00:09:34.840 The judgment that we see fall on Jericho is God's reasoned, fair and just response to ongoing rebellion and sin. 00:09:34.840 --> 00:09:41.060 So when we get into chapter 7 of Joshua, we read in verse 1, 00:09:42.480 --> 00:09:48.879 that the Israelites acted unfaithfully in regard to the devoted things that were the spoils. 00:09:49.740 --> 00:09:54.759 Achan, son of Carmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. 00:09:56.139 --> 00:10:00.460 So the Lord's anger burned against Israel. 00:10:00.460 --> 00:10:07.080 You see, we shouldn't be surprised if God gets angry with sin. 00:10:07.920 --> 00:10:13.160 In fact, given what's happened to the city of Jericho, we should be expecting it. 00:10:15.360 --> 00:10:18.900 And the big question for us as we look at this chapter is, 00:10:19.320 --> 00:10:24.200 not why did God do --> 00:11:29.500 Israel have sinned. 00:11:30.220 --> 00:11:34.700 They have violated or broken my covenant, 00:11:35.360 --> 00:11:38.080 which I commanded them to keep. 00:11:38.259 --> 00:11:40.480 They have taken some of the devoted things. 00:11:40.600 --> 00:11:41.320 They have stolen. 00:11:41.320 --> 00:11:42.240 They have lied. 00:11:42.800 --> 00:11:45.640 And they have taken them and put 00:12:46.639 --> 00:12:47.860 This is what I have done. 00:12:48.139 --> 00:12:49.919 When I saw in the plunder, 00:12:50.179 --> 00:12:52.460 a beautiful robe from Babylonia, 00:12:53.220 -->
