00:00:57.740 We can say that we love God. 00:00:57.740 --> 00:01:03.300 We can say that we honor Him and we glorify Him with this service and our singing. 00:01:04.019 --> 00:01:07.840 But unless there's action behind those words, those are just words. 00:01:08.579 --> 00:01:18.540 Unless there's true humility, repentance, believing, faith, unless any of that is behind those words, they're 00:01:54.640 --> 00:02:00.799 But let me kind of give you a quick summary of where we've been sitting in Romans chapter 10. 00:02:00.799 --> 00:02:07.519 Paul, in chapter 9 and a little bit into chapter 10, Paul, writing to the Christians in Rome, 00:02:08.599 --> 00:02:16.879 has just lamented over the unbelief of Israel, moved emotionally, just couldn't understand, 00:02:17.019 --> 00:02:21.859 can't understand why they haven't believed the truth of the Gospel. 00:02:21.860 --> 00:02:29.380 And that lamenting, that emotional stress and distress over the truth, 00:02:29.980 --> 00:02:35.720 moves him and brings him to chapter 10 in Romans, 00:02:35.920 --> 00:02:39.040 where I'm going to read, and you guys can turn there if you want. 00:02:39.740 --> 00:02:45.640 It brings him to the simplicity of the Gospel, as Nathan said last week, 00:02:45.639 --> 00:02:51.059 that Paul is brought, or the week before, Paul is brought to the simplicity of the Gospel 00:02:51.059 --> 00:02:53.539 after lamenting over Israel. 00:02:53.679 --> 00:02:58.519 Let me read in chapter 10, starting in verse 5. 00:03:00.139 --> 00:03:03.879 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, 00:03:04.319 --> 00:03:07.159 that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 00:03:07.579 --> 00:03:09.759 But the righteousness based on faith says, 00:03:09.759 --> 00:03:14.599 do not say on your heart, who will ascend into heaven, that is, to bring Christ down, 00:03:14.599 --> 00:03:18.259 or who will descend into the abyss, that is, to bring Christ up from the dead. 00:03:18.799 --> 00:03:20.079 But what does it say? 00:03:20.500 --> 00:03:23.240 The Word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart. 00:03:23.359 --> 00:03:26.479 That is, the Word of faith that we proclaim. 00:03:27.039 --> 00:03:29.939 Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, 00:03:30.340 --> 00:03:35.519 and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the 00:04:06.259 Now, moving into the next few verses, we get this practical outline that Paul gives us. 00:04:06.300 --> 00:04:09.219 He says, how then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? 00:04:09.219 --> 00:04:13.319 And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have not heard? 00:04:14.599 --> 00:04:17.500 And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 00:04:17.959 --> 00:04:20.319 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? 00:04:20.959 --> 00:04:25.600 As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news. 00:04:27.060 --> 00:08:05.259 the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, 00:08:06.100 --> 00:08:08.060 Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, 00:08:08.140 --> 00:08:09.000 Peace be with you. 00:08:10.020 --> 00:08:15.080 Now, what I want you to see here is that the disciples are scared out of their mind, 00:08:15.460 --> 00:08:17.340 fearing for their life from the Jews 00:08:17.340 --> 00:08:20.020 because Jesus has died. 00:08:20.460 --> 00:08:21.860 They don't know that he's resurrected. 00:08:22.379 --> 00:08:23.700 They think all is lost. 00:08:23.699 --> 00:08:25.339 What they have put their hope in, 00:08:25.399 --> 00:08:28.420 what they had followed for these three and a half years 00:08:28.420 --> 00:08:29.680 has all just crumbled apart.
