I'm speaking to the converted. 00:00:56.700 --> 00:01:11.320 But I think what I also want to say is that the work of TLG, the work of just spending that hour with a child, with a young person, just a the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 00:02:08.580 --> 00:02:15.640 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the can be implied in two ways. 00:03:32.280 --> 00:03:46.240 Firstly, it is primarily about children, but it's also about the vulnerable and particularly those who are near or new to the kingdom of God. --> 00:04:10.040 And for those of us who don't know TLG's story, it was an ordinary church, probably about the size of the church here in Cleveland. 00:04:10.039 --> 00:04:16.180 And just began to work with young people on a Friday night. 00:04:16.319 --> 00:04:30.759 They'd come to youth club and on a Saturday night, they would come to a sort of a burger bar that we'd set up and they'd eat their chips and their burgers and they'd have fellowship. 00:04:31.579 --> 00:04:36.639 On a Sunday, sometimes night, they'd be throwing stones at the church window as kids do. 00:04:36.639 --> 00:04:39.819 And Monday morning, everyone would breathe a sigh of relief. 00:04:40.439 --> 00:04:43.319 They're going to school, except lots of them weren't. 00:04:44.060 --> 00:04:49.979 And so we began a journey of providing schooling for some of those children. 00:04:50.120 --> 00:04:52.819 There was no blueprint at that time on how to do it. 00:04:52.899 --> 00:04:55.259 We just made it up as we went along. 00:04:56.019 --> 00:05:04.680 And by about 2004, we'd become probably the foremost alternative education provider in the city of Bradford, as it was then, 00:05:04.680 --> 00:05:09.019 and took a decision to begin to think about replicating that in other places. 00:05:09.639 --> 00:05:14.280 And began, you know, firstly in London, then in Birmingham, then in Manchester. 00:05:15.199 --> 00:05:19.540 And slowly we began to replicate around the country. 00:05:20.340 --> 00:05:22.340 We got to about 2010. 00:05:22.339 --> 00:05:31.099 And Rachel Morphin, who leads early intervention, was just banging a drum behind the scene and saying, 00:05:31.219 --> 00:05:34.439 guys, you're waiting way too late. 00:05:34.859 --> 00:05:39.579 You know, why are you waiting until they're 11, you know, 12, 13? 00:05:39.819 --> 00:05:43.479 We know that they're slipping through the gaps, kind of in primary school. 00:05:43.480 --> 00:05:46.240 And so as a result, we gathered some people together. 00:05:46.400 --> 00:05:47.160 We did some thinking. 00:05:47.860 --> 00:05:50.660 And early intervention was born. 00:05:51.300 --> 00:06:00.160 And I'm pleased to say that today we have over 100 early intervention centres up and down the UK 00:06:00.160 --> 00:06:06.020 in partnership with churches of all different kinds of shapes and sizes, 00:06:06.439 --> 00:06:10.480 welcomes a little child in my name welcomes me. 00:06:55.259 --> 00:06:57.819 That is a powerful verse. 00:06:57.819 --> 00:07:03.259 If we welcome a child, we are welcoming Jesus. 00:07:04.579 --> 00:07:07.379 You know, that is what Jesus said there. 00:07:08.659 --> 00:07:13.100 And I think that being a Jesus-centred church, 00:07:13.259 --> 00:07:15.639 and I know that you're a Jesus-centred church, 00:07:16.240 --> 00:07:20.939 is actually synonymous with being a child-centred church. 00:07:20.939 --> 00:07:24.639 It was just lovely to see the children at the front, 00:07:25.100 --> 00:07:26.560 and the bubbles going up in the air, 00:07:26.740 --> 00:07:28.920 and them waving their flags, 00:07:29.339 --> 00:07:31.759 and feeling that this is a safe place 00:07:31.759 --> 00:07:36.160 where they can express their worship to God. 00:07:36.519 --> 00:07:41.659 Being a child-centred church is being a Jesus-centred church as well. 00:07:42.040 --> 00:07:45.360 And I do go to churches where they are lamenting. 00:07:45.360 --> 00:07:49.180 I sat in a meeting yesterday with leaders of churches 00:07:49.180 --> 00:07:52.960 who were lamenting that there was no longer any children's work, 00:07:53.420 --> 00:07:56.220 and no longer any young people's work. 00:07:56.560 --> 00:07:58.759 It is precious what we have. 00:07:59.319 --> 00:08:00.280 Let's bring children. can see the local congregation as a village 00:08:30.019 --> 00:08:32.919 where they can thrive, where they can develop, 00:08:33.419 --> 00:08:37.139 where they can have freedom, and where they can Perhaps they've got an unidentified learning difficulty. 00:10:16.799 --> 00:10:20.360 And actually, their behaviour is a scream for help, 00:10:20.440 --> 00:10:23.200 but that's not been fully identified by the school. 00:10:23.879 --> 00:10:27.659 Sometimes there could have been traumatic experience at home, 00:10:27.779 --> 00:10:31.240 perhaps a bereavement of an auntie, an uncle, a parent. 00:10:31.240 --> 00:10:38.320 Maybe it's been a breakup in the family situation. 00:10:38.419 --> 00:10:40.259 There can be a host of reasons 00:10:40.259 --> 00:10:46.580 why a child or a young person isn't thriving in school. 00:10:46.980 --> 00:10:50.860 But the Bible says that young people, 00:10:51.039 --> 00:10:53.080 we are called to get alongside them 00:10:53.080 --> 00:10:56.539 and to support them if they are stumbling 00:10:56.539 --> 00:11:00.379 and if they are falling. 00:11:01.240 --> 00:11:06.580 And the final point I want to make is in verses 10 to 14. 00:13:07.379 that just says that's wrong, 00:13:07.559 --> 00:13:10.539 that education is a basic human right. 00:13:10.539 --> 00:13:13.039 And we know that if a child is not educated, 00:13:13.259 --> 00:13:15.659 then their outcomes and life chances 00:13:15.659 --> 00:13:17.319 are hugely reduced. 00:13:17.480 --> 00:13:21.500 And the likelihood of that child or young person 00:13:21.500 -->
