That is, to bring Christ up from the 00:01:43.780 --> 00:01:50.640 dead. But what does it say? The word is near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart. That if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, 00:01:56.239 --> 00:02:01.760 and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. The one thing that keeps me awake at night, the one thing that consumes my thinking by day and shapes my prayers, 00:06:02.199 --> 00:06:07.319 is that those who I know and love would become 00:07:15.839 There's a wonderful promise in chapter 10 verse 13. 00:07:16.159 --> 00:07:17.000 Do you see it there? 00:07:18.040 --> 00:07:24.819 Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. 00:07:43.219 --> 00:07:46.319 You see, whatever our dreams and desires are, 00:07:46.319 --> 00:07:53.379 God's heart is that everyone would but it comes with three conditions, 00:08:10.959 --> 00:08:13.060 and we're going to look at them each one. 00:08:13.060 --> 00:08:16.300 An open invitation, but three conditions. 00:08:16.920 --> --> 00:08:41.520 What then shall we say? 00:08:42.100 --> 00:08:45.500 That the Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness 00:08:45.500 --> 00:08:47.280 have obtained it, 00:08:47.620 --> 00:08:50.100 a righteousness that is by faith. 00:08:50.400 --> 00:08:53.300 But Israel who pursued a law of righteousness 00:08:53.300 --> 00:08:55.560 has not attained it. 00:08:56.379 --> 00:08:58.140 You see, in these couple of verses here, 00:08:58.200 --> 00:09:00.440 we're introduced to two kinds of people. 00:09:01.640 --> 00:09:02.660 Look at verse 30. 00:09:02.740 --> 00:09:04.000 We've got the Gentiles. 00:09:04.320 --> 00:09:06.660 They were not very religious people. 00:09:07.200 --> 00:09:09.620 They weren't the kind of people who read their Bibles. 00:09:09.620 --> 00:09:11.779 They weren't interested in going to church. 00:09:12.860 --> 00:09:13.940 And then in verse 31, 00:09:14.100 --> 00:09:15.500 we've got the religious people, 00:09:15.659 --> 00:09:16.799 the people of Israel. 00:09:17.240 --> 00:09:19.560 They're the kind of people you meet day to day 00:09:19.560 --> 00:09:22.159 who are wanting to go to church. 00:09:22.279 --> 00:09:24.120 They're the people who pray and read 00:09:24.120 --> 00:09:26.919 and they're interested in religious things. 00:09:28.360 --> 00:09:31.740 But the surprise here between these two groups of people 00:09:31.740 --> 00:09:33.980 is the kind of person 00:09:33.980 --> 00:09:37.120 who actually receives righteousness. 00:09:37.120 --> 00:09:41.440 And righteousness here is right standing with God. 00:09:41.639 --> 00:09:42.639 It's salvation. 00:09:43.639 --> 00:09:45.820 And here's the surprise in these two verses. 00:09:46.320 --> 00:09:49.840 The religious person who works for salvation 00:09:49.840 --> 00:09:52.980 doesn't receive it. 00:09:54.860 --> 00:09:56.039 Verse 32. 00:09:57.259 --> 00:09:58.080 Why not? 00:09:58.080 --> 00:10:02.520 Because they pursued it not by faith, 00:10:03.460 --> what I did this week. 00:10:19.320 --> 00:10:21.300 In other words, you're working for it. 00:10:21.940 --> 00:10:23.820 But the surprise is, 00:10:23.820 --> 00:10:26.000 it's completely the opposite. 00:10:26.000 --> 00:10:27.799 Verse 30 again. 00:10:28.340 --> 00:10:29.340 The Gentiles, 00:10:29.580 --> 00:10:31.779 these are the people who aren't very religious, 00:10:32.700 --> 00:10:34.840 who weren't pursuing righteousness, 00:10:35.059 --> 00:10:36.820 who weren't working for their salvation. 00:10:37.320 --> 00:10:39.059 They have got it. 00:10:39.279 --> 00:10:41.080 They have received this righteousness 00:10:41.080 --> 00:10:44.419 because it is by faith. 00:10:44.419 --> 00:10:48.099 So, we receive it by faith, 00:10:48.179 --> 00:10:48.679 not works. 00:10:48.759 --> 00:10:50.299 And here's the second part to it. 00:10:52.339 --> 00:10:53.199 By faith, 00:10:53.299 --> 00:10:53.919 not works, 00:10:54.059 --> 00:10:55.000 in Christ, 00:10:55.779 00:11:09.079 --> 00:11:10.279 They pursued it, 00:11:10.500 --> 00:11:11.240 not by faith, 00:11:11.599 --> 00:11:13.480 but as if it were by works. 00:11:14.420 --> 00:11:17.159 They stumbled over 00:11:44.720 --> 00:11:45.220 excuse me, 00:11:45.320 --> 00:11:45.899 a rock. 00:11:46.039 --> 00:11:47.340 Not a physical rock, 00:11:47.919 --> 00:11:49.100 but a king, 00:11:49.460 --> 00:11:50.080 a person 00:11:50.080 --> 00:11:51.460 who was going to come 00:11:51.460 --> 00:11:52.379 and save 00:11:52.379 --> 00:11:53.320 and rule, 00:11:53.700 --> 00:11:54.820 and that rock 00:11:54.820 --> 00:11:55.480 is 00:11:55.480 --> 00:11:56.840 Jesus Christ. 00:11:56.840 --> 00:11:59.860 Now, the person 00:11:59.860 --> 00:12:00.759 who has faith 00:12:00.759 --> 00:12:01.680 in themselves 00:12:01.680 --> 00:12:03.960 rather than in Jesus, 00:12:04.660 --> 00:12:05.360 then the rock 00:12:05.360 --> 00:12:06.040 becomes 00:12:06.040 --> 00:12:07.420 an obstacle. 00:12:07.740 --> 00:12:09.160 Look at verse 33 again. 00:12:09.660 --> 00:12:10.720 It's a stone 00:12:10.720 --> 00:12:12.180 that causes people 00:12:12.180 --> 00:12:13.100 to stumble. 00:12:13.840 --> 00:12:32.139 that we don't want 00:12:32.139 --> 00:12:32.899 and so people 00:12:32.899 --> 00:12:33.740 want to kill him 00:12:33.740 --> 00:12:34.699 and get rid of him. 00:12:36.699 --> stand on 00:12:49.500 --> 00:12:50.719 and a shelter 00:12:50.719 --> 00:12:51.500 to hide in. 00:12:51.500 --> 00:12:52.120 Look at the end 00:12:52.120 --> 00:12:53.080 of verse 33. 00:12:54.159 --> 00:13:27.939 --> 00:13:29.319 of the law 00:13:29.319 --> 00:13:30.879 so that there 00:13:30.879 --> 00:13:32.039 may be righteousness 00:13:32.039 --> 00:13:33.519 or salvation 00:13:33.519 --> 00:13:34.659 for everyone 00:13:34.659 --> 00:13:35.959 who believes. 00:13:36.839 --> 00:13:37.419 Now look at that 00:13:37.419 --> 00:13:38.219 little phrase there, 00:13:38.319 --> 00:13:39.899
