Red Sea is arguably one of the most significant events in the Old Testament. 00:07:13.100 --> 00:07:18.780 It's mentioned numerous times for the purpose of emphasizing God's amazing act of salvation, 00:07:18.780 --> 00:07:20.420 which he brought to his people. 00:07:21.100 --> 00:07:24.360 And in the history of the Israelites, it's their pinnacle event, 00:07:24.920 --> 00:07:26.480 their defining moment. 00:07:27.480 --> 00:07:30.300 Not their defining moment because they defined it. 00:07:30.360 --> 00:07:32.980 Their defining moment because God defined it. 00:07:33.560 --> 00:07:34.379 He defined it. 00:07:34.379 --> 00:07:36.980 He put his seal and his name on them. 00:07:37.399 --> 00:07:42.060 And the crossing of the Red Sea is the final act of their rescue from slavery 00:07:42.060 --> 00:07:43.899 that we've read about up until this point. 00:07:46.139 --> 00:07:49.699 The crossing of the Red Sea is not just key to the Israelites in the Old Testament. 00:07:50.060 --> 00:07:53.879 It also plays an important role in the New Testament as well. 00:07:53.939 --> 00:07:55.600 And we're going to talk about that in a couple minutes. 00:07:55.600 --> 00:08:00.480 If you're like me, you like knowing where things happen. 00:08:00.660 --> 00:08:06.240 And as we start out this chapter, the first couple verses kind of help us out a little bit. front of Beelzefin, camp there facing the sea. 00:08:26.199 --> 00:08:28.259 Sounds like we can almost know where that is. 00:08:28.319 --> 00:08:32.439 So just to get a quick idea, that's what the area is that they're looking at. 00:08:32.899 --> 00:08:35.839 The Red Sea, portions of the Red Sea that go up. 00:08:35.840 --> 00:08:41.139 Egypt in the top left, there in the gray area, would kind of be the area of Goshen 00:08:41.139 --> 00:08:42.740 where the Israelites are coming out of. 00:08:44.620 --> 00:08:49.379 The problem is all these locations, when you dig into them, are pretty vague. 00:08:49.940 --> 00:08:52.120 So Piharath means mouth of water. 00:08:53.060 --> 00:08:55.259 I think there's a couple mouths of water there. 00:08:55.560 --> 00:08:56.139 We're not sure. 00:08:56.240 --> 00:08:59.399 There's two here, but also there's smaller tributaries up at the top 00:08:59.399 --> 00:09:04.060 that people could look at that and say, well, that's the mouth of water, mouth of the canal. 00:09:04.059 --> 00:09:06.659 Now, there's also Migdal, which is mentioned here. 00:09:06.899 --> 00:09:12.579 That just means watchtower, which actually related to these military outposts 00:09:12.579 --> 00:09:14.719 that Egyptians set up throughout Egypt. 00:09:14.879 --> 00:09:18.419 So now we have something that could be located in various areas. 00:09:19.299 --> 00:09:20.819 And then we have Beelzefin. 00:09:21.159 --> 00:09:24.799 So they were told to camp on one side, 00:09:24.879 --> 00:09:27.479 and they could look over and see Beelzefin on the other side. 00:09:27.479 --> 00:09:30.479 The problem is no one really knows where Beelzefin is either. 00:09:31.379 --> 00:09:32.979 So nothing helpful there. 00:09:32.980 --> 00:09:36.460 But what we do know is that they were told to come up to the Red Sea. 00:09:36.600 --> 00:09:41.539 And what we do know is God provided a way of salvation across the Red Sea. 00:09:42.060 --> 00:09:46.980 And what's interesting is back in the beginning of Exodus, if you remember, 00:09:47.360 --> 00:09:54.379 it's Pharaoh who tells his people to throw the Israelite boys into the sea 00:09:54.379 --> 00:09:56.500 to get rid of the Israelites. 00:09:56.500 --> 00:10:02.480 And now we find that the Egyptians are getting rid of by that same very sea. 00:10:02.600 --> 00:10:06.379 So there's this ironic twist here taking place. 00:10:09.120 --> 00:10:12.039 The Lord will fight for his people. 00:10:12.620 --> 00:10:13.779 It's our title this morning. 00:10:14.340 --> 00:10:17.960 And by his people, we're talking about the Israelites here, 00:10:17.960 --> 00:10:22.800 but we also know that as that continues on and God's people becomes the church that he died for, 00:10:23.519 --> 00:10:27.019 the Israelites that he fought for becomes you and I, 00:10:27.240 --> 00:10:30.740 believers in Jesus Christ, who he also fights for. 00:10:31.120 --> 00:10:34.620 And so under that theme, there's three areas we want to look at. 00:10:34.660 --> 00:10:36.759 And the first one is that God directs. 00:10:36.759 --> 00:10:45.720 Moses is given these directions here in the beginning and told the people of Israel where to go and what to do. 00:10:46.019 --> 00:10:49.139 We see God's plan if you look at verses three and four. 00:10:51.559 --> 00:10:53.240 For Pharaoh will say to the people of Israel, 00:10:53.379 --> 00:10:59.620 they're wandering in the wilderness or in the land and the wilderness has shut them in. 00:11:01.620 --> 00:11:06.480 From a military perspective, it really seems like God has a really bad idea. 00:11:06.480 --> 00:11:07.360 Going on. 00:11:09.139 --> 00:11:12.720 Take a big group of previously released slaves, 00:11:13.279 --> 00:11:16.899 take them out into the wilderness with their children and their grandparents, 00:11:17.279 --> 00:11:18.379 with all their belongings. 00:11:18.860 --> 00:11:21.860 Oh, and also they have valuables taken from their former owners. 00:11:22.340 --> 00:11:25.159 Now, take them in the wilderness, spin them around a little bit, 00:11:25.220 --> 00:11:28.259 make them look like confused ducks and then sit them out there by the sea. 00:11:28.860 --> 00:11:30.860 Like, that's what it looks like. 00:11:30.860 --> 00:11:37.659 Like, it's funny though, but because how often does God's plan and timing to us 00:11:37.659 --> 00:11:43.620 not look the most efficient, the most timeliest, the most obvious? 00:11:44.460 --> 00:11:46.240 I think we can all attest to that. 00:11:47.019 --> 00:11:48.779 But God's thoughts are Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord. 00:12:05.560 --> 00:12:07.920 So we see here that God is using the Egyptians 00:12:07.920 --> 00:12:10.240 and how they are going into the wilderness 00:12:10.240 --> 00:12:12.960 in a way to taunt the Egyptians. 00:12:14.060 --> 00:12:16.120 He also hardened Pharaoh's heart again 00:12:16.120 --> 00:12:20.379 and it makes them question why they sides. 00:13:36.559 --> 00:13:38.480 That's what's going out to meet the Egyptians. 00:13:38.480 --> 00:13:42.519 The Egyptians are going out to war 00:13:42.519 --> 00:13:44.480 and in verse 8 it says the Israelites, 00:13:46.080 --> 00:13:47.720 not knowing that they were being pursued, 00:13:48.159 --> 00:13:49.480 are going out defiantly. 00:13:50.899 --> 00:13:52.720 That description seems odd at first 00:13:52.720 --> 00:13:54.200 but it lines up if you look back 00:13:54.200 --> 00:13:56.779 at the previous chapter in verse 18 00:13:56.779 --> 00:13:58.440 where it says the people of Israel 00:13:58.440 --> 00:14:00.920 went up out of the land of Egypt 00:14:00.920 --> 00:14:02.279 equipped for battle. 00:14:02.279 --> 00:14:04.220 So they're defiant, 00:14:04.399 --> 00:14:05.279 not against God 00:14:05.279 --> 00:14:06.860 but against the Egyptians. 00:14:07.259 --> 00:14:08.480 They're ready for battle. 00:14:08.579 --> 00:14:10.299 They feel strong and obedient 00:14:10.299 --> 00:14:12.839 because there it says that they do 00:14:12.839 --> 00:14:14.980 what God tells them to do 00:14:14.980 --> 00:14:16.240 and where he directs them. 00:14:16.659 -->
