in a world that's full of pain, full of distress, full of hearty, death, sorrow, disruption and corruption, don't we? 00:02:00.579 --> 00:02:09.460 We live in a hard and broken world and we've been reminded of that recently in recent events that have gone on, both here in Carragalline but also in passage in the last week. 00:02:09.599 --> 00:02:12.359 We know that this world is hard and it's broken. 00:02:13.860 --> 00:02:18.680 And in your personal lives, I'm sure that you felt that this world is hard, this world is broken. 00:02:18.680 --> 00:02:26.939 Maybe you're struggling with a physical illness or maybe even a sinful temptation or maybe you're mourning the loss of a loved one. 00:02:28.060 --> 00:02:29.960 But you know that this world is hard. 00:02:30.640 --> 00:02:32.980 And David knew that this world was hard. 00:02:33.379 --> 00:02:38.540 And when he wrote this Psalm of the Ment in Psalm 6, he knew that this world was hard. 00:02:38.539 --> 00:02:46.500 But there is still good news, even in this hard world, even in this difficult world, there is still good news. 00:02:47.219 --> 00:02:54.739 And that good news is that God invites us to cry out to him in the midst mentions that he's greatly troubled. 00:03:22.680 --> 00:03:24.640 He says, my soul is also greatly troubled. 00:03:26.340 --> 00:03:29.200 So today, as we look at this first section, 00:03:29.300 --> 00:03:31.980 you're going to see that you can cry out to the Lord when you are greatly troubled. 00:03:31.979 --> 00:03:35.179 I'm going to read from verses 1 to 3 again. 00:03:35.819 --> 00:03:36.419 troubled? 00:04:02.139 --> 00:04:07.400 Well, in verse 1 we see that he pleads to the Lord not to rebuke him and not to discipline him. 00:04:07.799 --> 00:04:09.359 Not to rebuke him and not to discipline him. 00:04:09.379 --> 00:04:13.799 And one thing that we know is that God needs to rebuke and discipline his people 00:04:13.799 --> 00:04:16.079 only because of their imperfections. 00:04:16.219 --> 00:04:18.040 Only because of their sinful actions. 00:04:18.839 --> 00:04:20.899 Only because of sin in their lives. 00:04:21.839 --> 00:04:25.560 God needs to rebuke and discipline his people sometimes because of that. 00:04:25.560 --> 00:04:29.519 And David might be in the midst of that rebuke and discipline right now as he writes the Psalm. 00:04:29.600 --> 00:04:31.420 He might be feeling the weight of that. 00:04:32.139 --> 00:04:37.680 And we know that God rebukes or, well, he disciplines us as his people because of our sin. 00:04:37.740 --> 00:04:42.800 And he disciplines every single one of us in the same way that a loving father would discipline their child. 00:04:42.800 --> 00:04:49.259 But that discipline, it never feels good in the moment when we're being disciplined. 00:04:50.280 --> 00:04:55.480 And David knows that that discipline doesn't feel good in that moment. 00:04:55.480 --> 00:05:01.920 So as David's dealing with this sin problem, as he's dealing and going through this rebuke and this discipline from the Lord, 00:05:02.340 --> 00:05:04.319 he then starts to ask for God's grace. 00:05:04.840 --> 00:05:10.200 He needs God's grace in the midst of this discipline, in the midst of this difficulty, in the midst of this sin problem. 00:05:11.319 --> 00:05:12.120 Look at verse 2. 00:05:12.700 --> 00:05:19.980 Instead of saying, do not discipline and do not rebuke, he is now saying, do give grace and do heal. 00:05:19.980 --> 00:05:22.780 He is using more positive wording in the second verse. 00:05:22.779 --> 00:05:25.679 Do give grace and do heal me, Lord. 00:05:27.379 --> 00:05:28.259 Heal me from what? 00:05:28.759 --> 00:05:30.079 Well, he says that he's weak. 00:05:30.259 --> 00:05:31.779 He says that he is languishing. 00:05:32.319 --> 00:05:34.159 At least in my translation, he says languishing. 00:05:35.079 --> 00:05:36.279 I didn't know what that word meant. 00:05:37.659 --> 00:05:44.459 But essentially, languishing means like this, like just completely unable because of your weakness. 00:05:44.719 --> 00:05:46.299 You cannot move. 00:05:46.379 --> 00:05:48.039 You're just completely weak. 00:05:48.039 --> 00:05:50.019 It's like an exaggerated weakness. 00:05:50.019 --> 00:05:57.139 So in the midst of this weakness, David cries to the Lord to give him grace and help. 00:05:57.839 --> 00:06:04.719 David knows that even in this weakness, he can cry out to the Lord and God will give him grace. 00:06:05.120 --> 00:06:06.560 He has hope that God will give him grace. 00:06:06.620 --> 00:06:07.919 That's why he cries out to the Lord. 00:06:09.259 --> 00:06:14.599 But this weakness and this pain, it goes further than just this languishing word that he uses. 00:06:14.600 --> grace. 00:06:56.659 --> 00:07:05.039 He knows that God's grace is the only thing that he needs to sustain him and help him when he's greatly troubled in this weakness. 00:07:05.040 --> 00:07:13.819 Maybe you, like me, have felt completely weak and broken because of your sin before. 00:07:14.840 --> 00:07:16.540 Because of a sin problem in your life. 00:07:16.600 --> 00:07:20.500 Maybe there's a
