So as Brett said, let's dive into Psalm chapter 19. Now this was a 00:02:13.920 --> 00:02:19.020 Psalm of David that was written to the choir master, so it makes perfect sense that a choir master 00:02:19.020 --> 00:02:25.219 preaching on it this morning, right? So after digging into this Psalm, I discovered that this 00:02:25.219 --> 00:02:31.700 Psalm is an accurate representation of what our worship should be like. Not only should we worship 00:02:31.700 --> 00:02:39.180 here in our space here today on a weekly basis, on Sunday mornings at 8 30, and in our second service 00:02:39.180 --> 00:02:44.280 at 11 o'clock, but we should be doing this in our homes with our families and having that time of 00:02:44.280 --> 00:02:50.740 worship. This involves singing. This involves reading God's word. This involves praying together. 00:02:51.939 --> 00:02:57.479 The psalmist, when he was writing, he did all of these things, and the psalmist loved to give praise 00:02:57.479 --> 00:03:05.860 to God. He loved to reflect on his word and what he has done, and he always knew how to respond with a 00:03:05.860 --> 00:03:13.820 pure heart. And when we come together, it reminds us that God wants him to worship him that way on a 00:03:13.820 --> 00:03:19.860 daily basis. He wants us to worship him with our thoughts, with our actions, with our plans for the 00:03:19.860 --> 00:03:26.320 future, and how we are to be the church outside of these walls. So if you have your Bible, Psalm chapter 19. 00:03:27.280 --> 00:03:29.680 Here's what the word of God says in verse 1. 00:03:29.680 --> 00:03:39.060 The heavens declared the glory of God, and the sky proclaims his handiwork. Day to day it pours out 00:03:39.060 --> 00:03:47.240 speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words whose voice is not 00:03:47.240 --> 00:03:54.680 heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has 00:03:54.680 --> 00:04:00.879 set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and like a strong 00:04:00.879 --> 00:04:08.280 man runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of 00:04:08.280 --> 00:04:14.560 them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat. Now, I admit some of our hymns 00:05:31.200 --> 00:05:37.340 and our songs are not as in-depth with the language in our own hymns and texts on a weekly basis. 00:05:37.339 --> 00:05:41.919 You know, it sure would have been nice to have David around during the late 90s and the early 2000s 00:05:41.919 --> 00:05:46.339 when one of our most popular worship songs was, Yes, Lord, Yes, Lord, Yes, Yes, Lord. 00:05:46.899 --> 00:05:52.479 It was so hard to trade your sorrows to the joy of the Lord after singing Yes, Lord for the thousandth time. 00:05:53.299 --> 00:05:58.419 Now, thankfully, modern worship has turned away from that one. We've either gone back to hymns 00:05:58.419 --> 00:06:02.539 or we have gone to a little bit more theologically correct music and thank God for that. 00:06:02.540 --> 00:06:07.180 But we go back to the psalm and to see how David pulled this together. 00:06:07.560 --> 00:06:10.000 The first thing I want us to look at this psalm is this. 00:06:10.240 --> 00:06:13.180 All things were created to worship. 00:06:14.640 --> 00:06:21.720 Our worship in this time should give glory and honor and praise to everyone's favorite Sunday school answer. 00:06:22.680 --> 00:06:25.620 Our worship should be directed to God. 00:06:26.020 --> 00:06:27.160 That's right, God. 00:06:27.160 --> 00:06:36.000 He is the one who established this world so that we who are created can worship Him who is the Creator. down from lofty mountain grandeur, 00:07:44.860 --> 00:07:48.640 And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze. 00:07:48.639 --> 00:07:51.360 Doesn't that sound like a wonderful picture? 00:07:51.639 --> 00:08:21.279 Now, it is no wonder when I hear people go on an excursion or go hiking or go into the woods and see the greatness of creation, 00:08:21.680 --> 00:08:25.419 That they feel like they have such a spiritual experience. 00:08:25.420 --> 00:08:30.660 You know, the reason why they feel that way, and you'll feel that way if you go out in creation, 00:08:31.040 --> 00:08:34.399 Is The Scripture says the whole entire process He used. 00:10:27.379 --> 00:10:30.500 And God said, 00:10:31.620 --> 00:10:37.000 The very speech of God created the world that we see around us. create any of that. 00:10:48.980 --> 00:10:51.240 But with our voice, 00:10:52.240 --> 00:10:59.379 We speak into existence the focus and the desire to put the cares of this world aside 00:10:59.379 --> 00:11:23.340 God inhabits the praise of His people. 00:11:23.899 --> 00:11:28.159 And Jesus reinforced this in Matthew 18 verse 22 when He said, 00:11:28.920 --> 00:11:32.080 Where two or three are gathered in my name, 00:11:32.759 --> 00:11:35.220 There I am in the midst. 00:11:36.080 --> 00:11:41.920 Church, we must intentionally create this space for the Lord to dwell amongst us 00:11:41.919 --> 00:11:45.360 Every time we come together in worship. 00:11:45.579 --> 00:11:47.139 It doesn't have to be in this room. 00:11:48.139 --> 00:11:54.659 It just has to be with the focus and the created intent to welcome God to come amongst us. 00:11:55.019 --> 00:12:01.099 The second thing this psalm shows us is that our worship requires reflection. 00:12:01.100 --> 00:12:06.500 As we use praise to create the space for God, 00:12:07.180 --> 00:12:10.639 We should use reflection like a two-sided mirror. 00:12:10.759 --> 00:12:13.580 And I have a two-sided mirror here that reflecting all the things that are above me, 00:12:25.940 --> 00:12:29.920 And hopefully to the people that are around me. 00:12:29.919 --> 00:12:36.740 That is exactly what David was doing in verses 7-11 in Psalm chapter 19. 00:12:37.120 --> 00:12:45.219 It is clear to see that the psalmist was showing all the things that the Lord God had established in His righteousness. 00:12:46.000 --> 00:12:47.399 And when I see this verse of Scripture, 00:12:47.559 --> 00:12:48.740 I think of psalms like, 00:12:49.079 --> 00:12:50.299 To God be the glory, 00:12:50.899 --> 00:12:52.360 Great things He has done. 00:12:52.799 --> 00:12:55.740 So loved He the world that He gave us His Son. 00:12:55.740 --> 00:12:58.259 We also sing here in the early service, 00:12:58.720 --> 00:12:59.600 What He's done. 00:13:00.240 --> 00:13:01.039 What He's done. 00:13:01.560 --> 00:13:04.399 All glory and the honor to the Son. 00:13:04.519 --> 00:13:06.139 My sins are forgiven. 00:13:07.039 --> 00:13:08.860 My future is heaven. 00:13:09.500 --> 00:13:12.139 I praise God for what He's done. 00:13:12.940 --> 00:13:16.399 Do you know how hard it is to fit all that God has done 00:13:16.399 --> 00:13:19.120
