it's important to remind ourselves that as we've looked at this whole issue of experiencing God's power and salvation, 00:04:39.480 --> 00:04:42.639 we've been swept away by the language of salvation. 00:04:42.639 --> 00:04:50.300 We've seen that the nature and extent of sin leaves a person in a totally hopeless situation before God. 00:04:50.879 --> 00:04:53.800 But then the language of salvation sweeps in. 00:04:53.979 --> 00:04:58.120 God takes the initiative in his love, in his mercy. 00:04:59.039 --> 00:05:01.519 He initiates our salvation. 00:05:01.699 --> 00:05:05.639 He initiates everything that's required to bring us back into good relationship with himself. 00:05:06.500 --> 00:05:08.740 Very powerful, compelling language. 00:05:08.740 --> 00:05:16.780 And all of that effort something I find is really incredible, yet incredibly, for many believers, 00:06:38.379 --> 00:06:46.180 God's golden chain of salvation is not a cause to praise him, to praise him for his grace. --> 00:07:53.019 does that make evangelism and prayer for us as Christians pointless? 00:07:56.600 --> 00:08:00.939 Since God has already set his love upon specific individuals, 00:08:01.220 --> 00:08:03.819 since he's already marked them out for salvation, 00:08:03.819 --> 00:08:06.719 and since only those ones will be saved, 00:08:07.920 --> 00:08:11.040 then what is the point of me evangelizing? 00:08:11.099 --> 00:08:14.879 What is the point of me praying for the salvation of people in general 00:08:14.879 --> 00:08:17.980 or a specific person in particular? 00:08:21.420 --> 00:08:23.579 And as Matt rightly said, it's a big question. 00:08:23.659 --> 00:08:25.980 All these questions we've been dealing with are big questions. 00:08:27.659 --> 00:08:29.139 Now, I want to push this in four directions. 00:08:29.139 --> 00:08:30.959 Well, it's not actually four directions. 00:08:31.099 --> 00:08:33.220 I want to sort of step through this in four steps. 00:08:33.720 --> 00:09:10.899 and there'll still be a point we just don't understand. 00:09:13.720 --> 00:09:15.899 And because of that, it's really important 00:09:15.899 --> 00:09:19.660 to be aware of our presuppositions and assumptions 00:09:19.660 --> 00:09:22.660 that we might bring to any of these questions 00:09:22.660 --> 00:09:24.960 regarding God's absolute sovereignty. 00:09:24.960 --> something then, 00:09:50.779 --> 00:09:52.259 it's probably not real 00:09:52.259 --> 00:09:55.100 and probably foolish to believe it. 00:09:59.980 --> 00:10:05.080 Now, when armed with our assumptions of human logic, 00:10:05.180 --> 00:10:05.940 such as those, 00:10:06.720 --> 00:10:09.159 when we go looking for the logic of God 00:10:09.159 --> 00:10:13.719 and we intersect God saying on the one hand 00:10:13.719 --> 00:10:17.219 that salvation is his sovereign initiative 00:10:17.219 --> 00:10:18.839 and action from start to finish, 00:10:19.159 --> 00:10:20.179 yet on the other hand, 00:10:20.259 --> 00:10:25.039 God's saying that he commands us to pray and evangelize. 00:10:27.579 --> 00:10:28.959 With our human logic, 00:10:29.379 --> 00:10:32.079 we quickly conclude, or easily conclude, 00:10:32.080 --> 00:10:35.520 that these two things just don't sit with each other. 00:10:35.600 --> 00:10:37.759 In fact, we conclude that they've got to be enemies 00:10:37.759 -->
