prejudice and, in fact, encouraging prejudice. 00:01:39.099 --> 00:01:50.799 And that was separate from the fact that the first time I read this text as well, it really, it came to me or it felt to me as if the Bible was being very sexist as well in terms of how it treated women. 00:01:50.799 --> 00:02:03.200 And so, you know, it's part of the reason why in the early years of my Christian life, the Council of Jerusalem when they were trying to have a debate as to whether pagans who became Christians had to be circumcised. 00:04:18.319 --> 00:04:26.819 And Titus was Exhibit A as a pagan who had become a Christian, and the church in Acts 15 decided they didn't have to. 00:04:27.319 --> 00:04:33.480 The pagans, for many of us guys here, it's not a requirement to become a Christian to be circumcised. 00:04:34.439 --> 00:04:42.180 And Titus as well, this book is being written to Titus by Paul probably in about the year 63 or 64, 00:04:42.420 --> 00:04:47.860 a couple of years before Paul himself is martyred under Nero. 00:04:47.860 --> 00:04:52.460 And Paul is giving Titus advice about how to order and structure the church, 00:04:52.819 --> 00:04:59.460 because there's been an evangelistic campaign in the island of Crete, and many people have come to faith. 00:04:59.620 --> 00:05:03.000 Paul has moved on, and now Titus is to bring some order into the situation. 00:05:03.460 --> 00:05:06.439 But here's the thing.
