Sunday. 00:03:37.500 --> 00:03:42.360 Today I want us to look at what I'm calling the first of the three goals that God has for us. 00:03:42.920 --> 00:03:47.340 Goal number one, be mindful of who you are in Christ. 00:03:47.340 --> 00:03:57.920 Be aware, have an understanding of who you are right now as God looks at you, as God thinks of you, 00:03:58.920 --> 00:04:04.939 by virtue of the fact raised with Christ, seek the things that are above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 00:04:21.519 --> 00:04:26.500 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 00:04:27.500 --> 00:04:32.759 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 00:04:32.759 --> 00:04:41.480 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with are united to Christ in faith. 00:07:30.480 --> 00:07:34.340 I want you to look at how Jerry Bridges points this out, 00:07:35.120 --> 00:07:38.379 that it was Paul's consistent way of describing Christians. 00:07:39.120 --> 00:07:46.020 He says the term in Christ is the Apostle Paul's shorthand expression 00:07:46.020 --> 00:07:48.420 for being united to Christ. 00:07:49.080 --> 00:07:51.580 It is one of Paul's favorite expressions, 00:07:52.060 --> 00:07:57.460 and including similar expressions such as in Him or in the Lord. 00:07:57.459 --> 00:08:03.459 Paul uses it more than 160 times in his letters. 00:08:04.500 --> 00:08:08.079 Clearly, this is an important concept in Paul's theology, 00:08:08.359 --> 00:08:11.659 and it should be an important concept for us 00:08:11.659 --> 00:08:14.699 because all the remaining answers to the question, 00:08:15.159 --> 00:08:16.299 who am I as a Christian? 00:08:16.519 --> 00:08:17.719 Who am I in Christ? 00:08:18.299 --> 00:08:22.560 Are based upon the fact that we are in Christ, 00:08:22.560 --> 00:08:25.920 or we are united to Christ. 00:08:26.339 --> 00:08:28.680 Now, look at where we are in Colossians 3. 00:08:29.800 --> 00:08:32.720 Paul describes how we are united to Christ 00:08:32.720 --> 00:08:36.159 in three little bit different ways. 00:08:36.580 --> 00:08:37.539 Note in verse 1, 00:08:38.080 --> 00:08:40.659 you have been raised with Christ. 00:08:41.279 --> 00:08:41.980 Verse 3, 00:08:42.340 --> 00:08:44.899 you have died and your life is hidden, 00:08:45.159 --> 00:08:47.740 hidden with Christ in God. 00:08:48.620 --> 00:08:51.279 Something similar is in chapter 2, verse 20. 00:08:51.279 --> 00:08:54.139 With Christ, you died. 00:08:54.839 --> 00:08:55.759 And then in verse 4, 00:08:56.539 -->
