go to understand it 00:04:31.900 --> 00:04:37.879 is I felt like it was valuable to take a holistic approach. 00:04:38.360 --> 00:04:41.699 And by that I mean to process the psalm as a whole. 00:04:41.699 --> 00:04:48.519 Not to process the psalm as a collection of verses or a collection of ideas. 00:04:48.920 --> 00:04:56.240 Instead to try to experience the psalm as one entity. 00:05:10.800 As an analogy to kind of understand this holistic approach, 00:05:11.339 --> 00:05:13.600 I thought of eating a chocolate chip cookie. 00:05:14.240 --> 00:05:15.800 And I like chocolate and the discussion of creation 00:06:24.819 --> 00:06:31.759 as a way of understanding God's power and of understanding God's character. 00:06:32.520 --> 00:06:37.160 And through the course of the scriptures, this is constantly brought up 00:06:37.160 --> 00:06:42.160 as we look upon the created element, that which God has created, 00:06:42.280 --> 00:06:45.939 and says, look, that creation tells us something about God. 00:06:46.480 --> 00:06:50.700 In fact, the Bible very much just begins at that point where God says, 00:06:50.920 --> 00:06:51.760 look at what I've created. 00:06:52.720 --> 00:06:56.220 I thought also of the end of the story of Job, 00:06:56.600 --> 00:07:02.340 where the last four or so chapters of Job have this great declaration of who God is. 00:07:02.339 --> 00:07:06.519 And it's done through looking at the world that God has created. 00:07:07.599 --> 00:07:14.219 So in the same way, this psalmist really reflects upon that idea of looking at the created world 00:07:14.219 --> 00:07:22.879 and through that being able to discern the might and the power and the amazement of our God. 00:07:22.879 --> 00:07:27.860 And one of the things that amazed me as I think of this idea of creation 00:07:27.860 --> 00:07:31.259 and how the Bible uses that to discuss God 00:07:31.259 --> 00:07:36.779 is that that's one of those things that whatever time we're in, 00:07:37.300 --> 00:07:38.879 whatever culture we're in, 00:07:39.620 --> 00:07:44.540 whether it's 2,000 years ago when Jesus was alive, 00:07:44.980 --> 00:07:48.219 or maybe 3,000 years ago when this passage was written, 00:07:48.220 --> 00:07:53.320 or we could probably even look into the future and say 2,000 and 3,000 years from now, 00:07:53.800 --> 00:07:56.420 people look at creation and they're like, 00:07:56.600 --> 00:08:00.420 there's a certain awe factor that comes. 00:08:00.860 --> 00:08:04.460 And often I think when we think of creation in this awe factor, 00:08:04.780 --> 00:08:10.680 we think of going to this great vista and seeing some picturesque scene. 00:08:11.980 --> 00:08:15.120 But, you know, and while that is certainly a beauty to that, 00:08:15.120 --> 00:08:19.220 there's beauty in the created element here even in our city 00:08:19.220 --> 00:08:25.040 as we look and just look into the sky and see that wonderful blue sky. 00:08:25.740 --> 00:08:39.860 in a pretty extensive amount of time have thought they were in this age 00:08:39.860 --> 00:08:41.519 of great intellectual advancement. 00:08:41.519 --> 00:08:46.639 But we look at ourselves now in this age of great intellectual advancement, 00:08:47.139 --> 00:08:49.039 at least by those who came before us, 00:08:49.120 --> 00:08:51.559 and the great technology that we have. 00:08:52.039 --> 00:08:54.100 And of all the effort that goes into that, 00:08:54.659 --> 00:08:56.919 we still can't predict the weather. 00:08:57.919 --> 00:09:00.439 As you go to look at this upcoming snowstorm, 00:09:00.579 --> 00:09:02.899 I thought the prediction is three to six inches. 00:09:03.600 --> 00:09:08.220 I'm like, that's a pretty significant variation that we're going on.
