the enemy might seek to deceive her once she left that protective bubble. 00:03:02.719 --> 00:03:09.020 And so she asked me, and there was another pastor who was there with me, what can we do? she was surprised by the answer that we gave her because almost in unison, my friend and I both together told her, 00:03:58.080 --> 00:04:07.560 you know, you don't have to be an expert on every strain of false teaching in order to hold fast to the truth. 00:04:07.560 --> 00:04:20.860 The number one most important thing you can do to resist the lies of the enemy is to cling tightly to the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:04:21.840 --> 00:04:28.439 The number one thing you can do, sure, there's a place and there's a time, there's good that can be had from educating yourself. 00:04:28.439 --> 00:04:40.120 But the number one way that you can fortify your defenses against the attacks of the enemy is to know and to treasure the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:04:40.120 --> 00:04:49.240 Here in Colossae, the Colossian church, the body is fighting the infection of false teaching. 00:04:49.639 --> 00:04:58.560 And the antidote that the Apostle Paul gives them is this incredible passage on the glory of Jesus Christ. 00:04:59.459 --> 00:05:09.579 These eight verses, 15 through 23, are absolutely bursting at the seams with the worth and the beauty and the sufficiency of Jesus. 00:05:09.579 --> 00:05:19.680 Every phrase here is like an injection of white blood cells into the body to help them to fight off the infection of false teaching there in Colossae. 00:05:20.620 --> 00:05:24.560 And so Paul, this morning, he's showing us who Jesus is. 00:05:24.639 --> 00:05:31.639 He wants us to have this big view of who Jesus is so that we won't want to take our eyes off of him for even a moment. 00:05:32.339 --> 00:05:33.959 So this will be our outline this morning. 00:05:34.079 --> 00:05:36.740 We have three answers to that question, who is Jesus? 00:05:36.740 --> 00:05:40.860 Three answers to the question, who is Jesus? 00:05:41.400 --> 00:05:47.500 First, Paul tells us this Jesus is the God of all creation. 00:05:48.939 --> 00:05:52.860 Jesus Christ is the God of all creation. 00:05:53.540 --> 00:05:55.939 We see this in verses 15 through 17. 00:05:56.220 --> 00:05:58.040 And notice it's not just creation. 00:05:58.300 --> 00:06:00.040 It is all creation. 00:06:00.040 --> 00:06:03.240 Did you hear that word all repeated over and over and over again in the passage? 00:06:04.060 --> 00:06:05.340 All, all, all. wants us to understand and see that this Jesus, he rules and reigns not just over some of creation, 00:06:21.259 --> 00:06:24.580 not just over some, not just over parts, but over all. 00:06:24.579 --> 00:06:26.859 Look there at verse 15. 00:06:28.319 --> 00:06:38.579 He says, he is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, the image of the invisible God. 00:06:39.360 --> in the image of God. 00:06:50.759 --> 00:06:53.199 Human beings reflect God's glory. 00:06:53.680 --> 00:06:55.019 We reflect God's character. 00:06:55.259 --> 00:07:00.680 We reflect God's personality in a way that's unique compared to all the other creation. 00:07:00.860 --> 00:07:03.159 No other creature bears the image of God. 00:07:04.019 --> 00:07:07.039 We, as human beings, and Buddha and Muhammad and Abraham and Joseph Smith. 00:07:48.519 --> 00:07:50.680 All of them bear the image of God. 00:07:50.899 --> 00:07:52.539 But Paul says there's a key difference here. 00:07:52.540 --> 00:07:58.480 Jesus not only bears the image of God in his humanity. 00:07:59.600 --> 00:08:03.840 Jesus is the very image of God. 00:08:04.939 --> 00:08:07.340 Jesus not only bears am thinking here specifically of our Jehovah's Witness friends. 00:09:49.519 --> 00:09:51.740 Who claim to be Christians. 00:09:51.939 --> 00:09:53.759 They will tell you I am a Christian. 00:09:54.139 --> 00:09:57.360 They will knock on your door and say well I am a Christian just like you are. 00:09:57.979 --> 00:10:01.620 The Mormons in 2018 had this major rebranding effort. 00:10:01.620 --> 00:10:04.379 Where they stopped calling themselves the Mormon church. 00:10:04.379 --> 00:10:07.580 But rather the latter day saints of Jesus Christ. 00:10:08.080 --> 00:10:11.539 And to be more closely identified with Christian churches. 00:10:13.080 --> 00:10:14.639 But the truth is. 00:10:15.240 --> 00:10:19.799 They have a completely different view of who Jesus is. 00:10:19.899
