sisters are is crucial to being a healthy church. 00:12:35.259 --> 00:12:42.980 So now that we know what a church is, what does a healthy church look like? 00:12:43.600 --> 00:12:45.399 Well, we're talking about the leaders of the church or, as sometimes is referred to, the elders of the church. 00:13:38.679 --> 00:13:44.580 The leaders are those who are appointed by the church and are accountable to the church. 00:13:44.580 --> 00:13:50.940 And their responsibility is the spiritual oversight of the church. 00:13:50.940 --> 00:13:56.940 And their work, their hard work, is seen in two ways. 00:13:57.040 --> 00:13:58.640 Did you see it there in verse 12? 00:13:58.639 --> 00:14:09.159 Those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord, and who admonish you. 00:14:10.419 --> 00:14:14.340 So first, they are those who care for you. 00:14:15.299 --> 00:14:22.240 Now we've got a wonderful example of what that care looks like if you go back to chapter 2 and verse 7. 00:14:22.240 --> 00:14:29.279 The care that the leaders have for the church. 00:14:30.120 --> 00:14:32.240 Chapter 2, the middle of verse 7. 00:14:34.620 --> 00:14:35.820 Paul is speaking. 00:14:36.000 --> 00:14:36.440 He says, 00:14:36.440 --> 00:14:45.120 Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so we cared for you. 00:14:45.940 --> 00:14:54.340 Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our lives as well. 00:14:55.760 --> 00:15:05.600 A nursing mother feeding her infant child is a beautiful picture of the kind of care we are to expect from our leaders. 00:15:05.600 --> 00:15:11.639 A leader is those who will watch out, protect, feed, nourish. 00:15:12.899 --> 00:15:18.180 It's caring for the spiritual needs of the church family. 00:15:19.340 --> 00:15:21.320 So leaders are to care for you. 00:15:21.860 --> 00:15:26.159 And they were to admonish you. 00:15:27.399 --> 00:15:31.259 Again, we have a good example if you look down at chapter 2, verse 11. 00:15:31.259 --> 00:15:40.439 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children. 00:15:42.620 --> 00:15:43.179 Encouraging. 00:15:45.179 --> 00:15:45.740 Comforting. 00:15:46.639 --> 00:15:53.600 And urging you to live lives worthy of God who calls you into his kingdom and glory. 00:15:54.600 --> 00:15:57.600 A good father will watch out for his children. 00:15:57.600 --> 00:15:59.940 So picture the scene. 00:16:00.600 --> 00:16:04.920 A little toddler who goes running out in front of their father.
