00:00:10.419 --> 00:00:13.000 If you have your Bible, you can open it up to Luke chapter 3. 00:00:14.140 --> 00:00:23.000 And as we heard, John did not hesitate to rebuke people because of their sins and hypocrisy. 00:00:23.000 --> 00:00:30.539 He didn't hesitate to tell them the hard and unpleasant truth that if they did not repent, 00:00:31.140 --> 00:00:37.759 God's wrath would come upon them and they would face the unquenchable fire at the judgment. 00:00:38.980 --> 00:00:40.900 But that wasn't all that John said. 00:00:41.019 --> 00:00:47.100 He said God was willing to forgive them if they repented and that he was willing to wash 00:00:47.100 --> 00:00:52.960 them or immerse them in the Holy Spirit through the powerful one coming after John. 00:00:54.000 --> 00:00:59.420 And as I was thinking about this, I appreciate how John didn't just tell people what they 00:00:59.420 --> 00:01:00.060 wanted to hear. 00:01:01.439 --> 00:01:06.480 He told them what God had to say to them as the word of God came to him. 00:01:07.400 --> 00:01:12.680 And eventually this landed John in some trouble. 00:01:15.039 --> 00:01:22.700 From Luke chapter 3, verse 19, Luke tells us that when John rebuked Herod the Tetrarch 00:01:22.700 --> 00:01:29.140 because of his marriage to Herodias, his brother's wife, and all the other evil things he had done, 00:01:29.920 --> 00:01:31.460 Herod added this to them all. 00:01:32.079 --> 00:01:34.920 He locked John up in prison. 00:01:34.920 --> 00:01:42.159 If there was anyone that John might have been tempted to go easy on or to just, you know, 00:01:42.200 --> 00:01:47.299 adjust the tone of his message a little bit for, probably it was Herod. 00:01:48.000 --> 00:01:53.500 Herod was the ruler of the whole region of Galilee, the Tetrarch of Galilee. 00:01:54.020 --> 00:01:55.920 And yet what did John say to Herod? 00:01:55.920 --> 00:01:59.240 He told him to repent too. 00:02:00.299 --> 00:02:06.519 He pointed out very specifically the sins of Herod, one of them being his immoral marriage. 00:02:07.620 --> 00:02:11.199 And more than just that, he rebuked Herod because of that. 00:02:11.340 --> 00:02:14.840 And Luke says all the other evil things he had done. 00:02:14.840 --> 00:02:18.240 So John was very consistent. 00:02:20.980 --> 00:02:25.000 I think we see in this just that, you know, had you or I been there,
