00:04:47.779 As he tells of his misery. 00:04:48.919 --> 00:04:51.419 And then of course he leads us slowly. 00:04:52.079 --> 00:04:56.500 Slowly leads us to the wonderful glimpses of light we have. his distress. 00:06:04.360 --> 00:06:06.439 The man and his situation. 00:06:06.439 --> 00:06:16.360 As we said, in vivid terms, he makes quite clear the reality of what it is to live in a universe that is constantly changing. 00:06:17.620 --> 00:06:23.399 To live in a changing world where nothing remains the same for any real amount of time. 00:06:23.399 --> 00:06:33.359 Maybe we can't all here sympathize to a total extent of what this man is talking about. 00:06:33.419 --> 00:06:39.159 What this man is feeling of the depths of pain this man is quite clearly enduring. 00:06:40.219 --> 00:06:41.659 Maybe some here can. 00:06:42.819 --> 00:06:47.739 But all of us here in some way can understand this man's cries. 00:06:47.740 --> 00:06:57.860 We can't understand this man's plea, this man's confusion, this man's distress at living in a changing world and being a changing person. 00:06:59.340 --> 00:07:07.620 Roughly talks about four different areas of life where we see so much see how fragile life itself actually is. 00:07:17.740 --> 00:07:22.939 He makes clear pictures of just how fragile his own life really is. 00:07:23.860 --> 00:07:27.680 That life itself is passing him by. 00:07:28.720 --> 00:07:30.819 He refers in verse three. 00:07:30.980 --> 00:07:37.540 If you have your Bible open in front of you, we'll be going through the psalm in verse by verse and jumping around a bit. 00:07:37.639 --> 00:07:38.680 So please have your Bibles open. 00:07:38.680 --> 00:07:45.939 In verse three, we see how his life is passing away, vanishing like smoke. 00:07:45.939 --> 00:07:51.819 Verse four, his heart is blighted and it's withering away like grass. 00:07:52.620 --> 00:07:54.800 And again in verse 11. 00:07:55.759 --> 00:07:57.879 My day is like an evening shadow. above the horizon, it seems to go quicker and quicker and quicker and the shadows go longer, longer, longer and are gone. 00:08:16.699 --> 00:08:21.740 His life is quickly, quickly passing him by. left to wonder what has afflicted him so much. 00:08:37.059 --> 00:08:48.139 But they've caused him to remember or to realize maybe for the first time that he is not going to be here forever. member, a distant relative I'd never met, but passed away again, buried back home in my village. 00:09:21.800 --> 00:09:30.800 And as we stood around the open grave, the minister who was there quite 00:09:43.039 One day someone will lay me here. 00:09:44.000 --> 00:09:48.079 One day someone will stand over my grave and say the same things. 00:09:50.159 --> 00:09:51.759 When he asked, are you ready? 00:09:52.559 --> 00:09:53.439 Simple words. 00:09:54.179 --> 00:09:56.819 Simple truth we all know, but so profound. 00:09:56.820 --> 00:10:02.820 The psalmist here has painfully come face to face with his own mortality. 00:10:04.040 --> 00:10:07.940 He has realized and been reminded that his life will end. 00:10:08.500 --> 00:10:12.040 His life is passing him by so quickly. 00:10:15.040 --> 00:10:16.320 Do we know this experience? 00:10:16.860 --> 00:10:20.980 Do we know what it is to feel our lives passing us by? 00:10:20.980 --> 00:10:25.180 The fact that one day we will be gone.
