--> 00:07:29.740 of a nation 00:07:29.740 --> 00:07:31.720 and their wholesale rejection 00:07:31.720 --> 00:07:33.160 of the Lord. 00:07:34.420 --> 00:07:36.160 The nation was called to distinctiveness. 00:07:36.360 --> 00:07:38.960 We see that in Exodus chapter 19 00:07:38.960 --> 00:07:41.620 where God is making a people for himself. 00:07:41.879 --> 00:07:43.420 You will be my treasured possession, 00:07:43.600 --> 00:07:44.100 God says. 00:07:44.680 --> 00:07:46.580 You will be a kingdom of priests, 00:07:46.900 --> 00:07:47.420 God says, 00:07:47.540 --> 00:07:48.500 and a holy nation. 00:07:48.500 --> 00:07:51.139 That was his heart for his people 00:07:51.139 --> 00:07:53.000 to make them distinct, 00:07:53.160 --> 00:07:54.259 to call them out, 00:07:54.360 --> 00:07:55.899 to draw them to himself, 00:07:56.259 --> 00:07:57.399 to lift them up 00:07:57.399 --> 00:07:58.600 as a treasured possession 00:07:58.600 --> 00:07:59.779 in the world 00:07:59.779 --> 00:08:38.820 --> 00:08:40.000 but the people 00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:42.139 are acting like Canaan. 00:08:42.139 --> 00:08:45.539 A nation that was meant 00:08:45.539 --> 00:08:48.159 to drive the Canaanites out 00:08:48.159 --> 00:08:51.299 has actually been so inundated 00:08:51.299 --> 00:08:52.299 and so polluted 00:08:52.299 --> 00:08:54.279 by Canaanite thinking 00:08:54.279 --> 00:08:55.179 and theology 00:08:55.179 --> 00:08:56.240 and activity, 00:08:56.699 --> 00:08:58.120 it's as if Canaan 00:08:58.120 --> 00:08:59.559 has actually come in, 00:08:59.639 --> 00:09:01.559
