early church, 00:02:15.080 --> 00:02:17.259 and he became the first martyr. 00:02:18.540 --> 00:02:23.060 And Saul is a major character in the development of Christianity. 00:02:23.060 --> 00:02:27.520 Luke, the writer of Book of Acts, 00:02:27.920 --> 00:02:31.520 has given us a bit of teaser, like a movie trailer, 00:02:32.120 --> 00:02:34.840 in the chapter leading into our chapter, news of salvation 00:03:23.860 --> 00:03:26.700 from Judea to Samaria, 00:03:27.500 --> 00:03:28.560 to the Gentiles, 00:03:28.860 --> 00:03:29.939 and to the end of the earth. 00:03:31.200 --> 00:03:32.099 Stephen's death 00:03:32.099 --> 00:03:35.480 started this expansion of proclamation of good news 00:03:35.480 --> 00:03:36.860 to the new ground, 00:03:37.719 --> 00:03:40.680 and we came to see what happens to another leader, Philip. 00:03:41.400 --> 00:03:44.800 So in chapter 8, first one says, 00:03:44.800 --> 00:03:47.020 On that day, a great persecution 00:03:47.020 --> 00:03:49.300 broke out against a church in Jerusalem, 00:03:49.980 --> 00:03:51.520 and all except the apostles 00:03:51.520 --> 00:03:54.439 were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. 00:03:55.460 --> 00:03:57.040 And then we jump down to verse 4. 00:03:57.780 --> 00:04:00.380 Those who had been scattered preached the word 00:04:00.380 --> 00:04:01.439 wherever they went. 00:04:02.020 --> among the believers in Jerusalem. 00:04:37.819 --> 00:04:40.100 Now, he went down to Samaria, 00:04:41.100 --> 00:04:43.120 and instead of distributing food 00:04:43.120 --> 00:04:44.779 for physical need, 00:04:45.339 --> 00:04:46.719 he proclaimed the Messiah 00:04:46.719 --> 00:04:48.560 and preached the word of Jesus 00:04:48.560 --> 00:04:51.100 to provide food for the soul. 00:04:53.060 --> 00:04:54.779 A new proclamation has begun. 00:04:55.659 --> 00:04:58.500 It's new because we have new agents 00:04:58.500 --> 00:05:00.040 and new locations. 00:05:01.560 --> 00:05:02.579 Adding to 00:05:26.279 when they heard Philip 00:05:26.279 --> 00:05:28.879 and saw the signs that he performed, 00:05:29.319 --> 00:05:31.019 they all paid close attention 00:05:31.019 --> 00:05:32.319 to what he said. 00:05:33.439 --> 00:05:34.939 And there were great joys 00:05:34.939 --> 00:05:36.099 in the city 00:05:36.099 --> 00:05:39.399 because many immediate needs 00:05:39.399 --> 00:05:40.339 were 00:06:16.100 by a woman 00:06:16.100 --> 00:06:17.840 who met Jesus. 00:06:18.660 --> 00:06:19.680 And this also happened 00:06:19.680 --> 00:06:20.340 to the crowd. 00:06:21.240 --> 00:06:22.540 John chapter 4. 00:06:22.540 --> 00:06:26.980 Many of the Samaritans 00:06:26.980 --> 00:06:27.939 from that time 00:06:27.939 --> 00:06:28.840 believed in him 00:06:28.840 --> 00:06:30.680 because of the 00:07:42.759 to their worries 00:07:42.759 --> 00:07:44.079 and religion 00:07:44.079 --> 00:07:44.139 and religion 00:07:44.139 --> 00:07:45.620 seems to be able 00:07:45.620 --> 00:07:46.259 to provide. 00:07:47.839 --> 00:07:49.439 It would be so great 00:07:49.439 --> 00:07:50.719 if they have 00:07:50.719 --> 00:07:51.659 the active ears 00:07:51.659 --> 00:07:52.579 of Samaritans
