--> 00:04:55.319 Maybe you feel, ugh, I don't know if I feel good about that. 00:04:55.319 --> 00:04:57.699 But what if we just say we want you to be significant? 00:05:00.219 --> 00:05:02.680 Do you 00:05:48.280 --> 00:05:52.759 Mark 9, Mark 20, Mark 10, Matthew 18, Matthew 20, Luke 22. 00:05:53.180 --> 00:05:57.000 Over and over, they argue about they want to be the greatest, they want to be successful. 00:05:57.899 --> 00:06:01.519 And over and over, it's amazing to me, I find some kind of comfort in this 00:06:01.519 --> 00:06:03.259 because I feel like I struggle with this. 00:06:03.259 --> 00:06:07.139 I mean, I feel like sometimes I get so caught up in my world, 00:06:07.800 --> 00:06:15.539 I get so caught up in my significance that I don't hear God talking to me. acting like it is not that way. 00:08:22.319 --> 00:08:26.399 I mean all the people around them, they're acting like it's the greatest IPO that's about to happen in the history of the world. 00:08:26.759 --> 00:08:29.399 They're acting like, okay, God's kingdom is about to happen. 00:08:29.699 --> 00:08:30.639 And here's the franchise. 00:08:30.839 --> 00:08:32.240 It's about to open up in Jerusalem. 00:08:32.500 --> 00:08:34.179 And I want to get a piece of that kingdom. 00:08:34.179 --> 00:08:39.099 And so everybody is coming to Jesus and they all want to exercise their stock options. 00:08:39.199 --> 00:08:41.259 They all want to get in on the power play. 00:08:41.319 --> 00:08:42.179 They all want to get significance. 00:08:42.879 --> 00:08:43.799 They all want to get power. 00:08:46.239 --> 00:08:52.139 And in verse 20 we see this amazing story of this woman, Salome. 00:08:52.939 --> 00:08:54.099 She's Jesus' aunt. 00:08:54.959 --> 00:08:55.839 She's Jesus' aunt. 00:08:55.899 --> 00:08:56.759 She's Mary's sister. 00:08:57.059 --> 00:08:58.659 And she comes to him with her two sons. 00:08:59.159 --> 00:09:01.599 And it's asked different ways in different gospels. 00:09:01.600 --> 00:09:03.779 In the Gospel of Mark, she basically says this. 00:09:04.180 --> 00:09:09.820 She says to him, I'm going to ask you a question and I want you to answer yes for whatever I ask you. 00:09:10.300 --> 00:09:12.080 Whatever I ask you, I want you to do it. 00:09:13.899 --> 00:09:14.700 Is that bold? 00:09:15.519 --> 00:09:18.279 I mean, whatever I ask, you're 00:10:04.700 I want them to be the greatest success in your kingdom. 00:10:05.600 --> 00:10:11.740 And again, when you read the passage, what you see is that Jesus gently, you don't know what you're asking. 00:10:11.740 --> 00:10:14.799 Are you able to drink the cup I'm about to drink? 00:10:15.879 --> 00:10:19.539 They said we are, but in Greek, they're actually saying, yeah, yeah, we can do it. control, 00:12:37.159 --> 00:12:41.279 but success is measured by how many people you serve. 00:12:42.740 --> 00:12:44.659 When I think of the word serve in the scripture, 00:12:45.000 --> carefully. 00:14:50.379 --> 00:14:51.820 He says, 00:14:52.179 --> 00:14:52.860 Worldly success, 00:14:54.179 --> 00:14:55.299 worldly serving, 00:14:55.919 --> 00:14:59.620 requires massive external rewards and recognition. 00:15:01.220 --> 00:15:02.879 But if you serve in my kingdom, 00:15:04.000 --> 00:15:07.039 it often rests in hiddenness. 00:15:09.299 --> 00:15:12.720 Worldly serving is
